Spring is slowly arriving, there are now a bunch of sunny days on the horizon.
With nature getting more lively outside, I seem to find a list of spiders in and around the house again.
The ever present Pholcoid clambering around the wall, zygiella's nesting all around, a single wolf spider running around on the grass outside.
I just found a steatoda bipunctata (rabbit hutch spider) hiding away in an alcove in the ceiling.

I think it may not be fair to just throw potentially triggering images or videos on here. On the same time I have been getting less of a visceral fear reaction and have come to see spiders more with the same fascination of observing a mouse or an interesting looking weevil.

8. suddenly the townsfolk stumble towards you, as though something has control of their mind! they will be upon you in moments! what do you do?
9. you find yourself inside the lords manor of the town; blocking the shambling mindless citizens from attacking you; however the lord and his guards are still there, and start shambling like the citizens towards you! but something seems a little different about the lord... what do you do?
10. the crisis is averted! the lord is thankful for you saving the town! but there are so many questions left unanswered! what is your next move?
11. After you talked with the Lord, you know some details about what happened, and a very vague idea of who dunnit! tell me the details
12. you now need to set off on an adventure to find the source of the thing that happened! where are we goin? are you prepared?
13. after several sessions and some real shenanigans, what are some of your favorite moments? what things would you have done differently?
14. you are now at the BBEG's (big bad evil guy) lair! What is the lair like?
15. in the lair, you find a giant dragon blocking your way! what do you do?
16. you have finally reached the BBEG's lair; and you see them in the shadows. They give a big monologue, and turn towards you, walking into the light, revealing their identity! who is the BBEG?
17. you are in the fight of your life! keeping in mind your class and race, what is your first move in engaging this enemy?
18. uh oh! you just took massive damage, and you gotta make a life saving throw! if you roll 3 successes, you live! if you throw 3 failures, you die! roll 6 1d20s and count them in succession (any roll above 10 is a success, any roll below 10 is a failure, nat 1s are 2 failures, and nat 20s are two successes)
19. You have thwarted the BBEG, and have them on the ground, powerless to you! before you vanquish them, tell me your epic one liner to send them off!

Anyone else sometimes miss the old internet from like the mid 2000s?
Felt more real. More genuine than today. It was of course much smaller, after all for example in 2005 only under 40 percent of people living in all of the EU had internet access. Nowadays that's over 90 percent!
The internet back then felt more niche. More of a fun place with countess forums, people putting out passion projects and games for fun.
Now however it just feels sterile. Somehow even smaller despite being so much bigger. It feels corporate. Cold. Flooded with ai slop and bots too which is of course going to get worse.
Maybe it's just me. -

I think I’m beginning to understand the concept of visiting someone for no other purpose than having a casual chat with them.
Perhaps it may seem strange to you that someone would struggle with this concept, and if that’s true, then I envy you just a bit. To me, talking for the sake of talking has always been strange, and I often find myself bored, frustrated, or otherwise stressed, any time I’m at someone’s house and we’re not actively doing something other than talking.
I understand casual chatter when passing someone in the hall at school, or when using the break room at the same time; or perhaps just when you work at the next desk over and your work doesn’t strictly involve language, so chatting is easy. That makes sense, because the conversation is facilitated by a sort of carrier activity.
But when I’ve gone to the trouble of driving to someone’s house, or if I’ve invited them over, and we’re not playing a game, or watching videos, or enjoying some new wine they just bought? It always strikes me as odd, which is further confounded by the way I find television distracting, but other people seem to need it to enjoy themselves. Perhaps they are experiencing the same phenomenon from a different angle.
I suspect it is largely in part to the secluded, very rural nature of my childhood home. IWe lived very far from most of our relatives, and since my parents were often too busy to drive me places, visiting friends was always at least a 20 minute bike ride away. If I was going to visit anyone, it was to try out a new video game, or to watch a movie, or for a birthday party. There was always an activity that allowed for conversation.
When my relatives visited, it was always accompanied by a card game like Rumme or Cannasta at the very least, if not a more involved and colorful system like Monopoly, Catan, and others like that. Maybe there were a few times my uncles would visit on their way through to a different destination, but they always chatted with my parents while I played a game or read a book.
Now that I’m an adult, and most of my relatives see me that way as well, I’m beginning to notice more and more an expectation that visiting someone for a chat is just a normal thing, and it’s taken me a while, but I think I’m starting to get it. We live so near to each other. I can’t think of a single person on my wife’s side who lives more than 20 minutes from where I am now; considering the fact that as a child my nearest relative by physical distance lived nearly an hour away - that’s very strange to me!
But I think I get it. We live such busy lives sometimes, we forget, or feel as though we don’t have the time and energy to visit each other. But we’re friends and family for a reason. We like to be near each other, even if it’s just to say “hey how have you been?”—which is actually not a small question if said with intention.
Someone recently told me that “The Christmas Holiday is not a vacation. It’s intended so that we can all have time off at the same time, to see each other.” And that surprised me a bit—a lot, actually—because I never realized that’s how I saw it: A vacation. As a child, Christmas holiday used to always be the time when I had no obligations, and I could play in the snow (if there was any) with my brothers or sleep in all the time and read a book, and yes of course I often got new toys and we attended some very special Church services.
Now as an adult, I think I can see that Christmas really is used as a day dedicated to family who aren’t usually there, and friends you’re too busy to see, but whom you care about a lot. And having a casual chat about nothing in particular, with nothing else going on - no tv, no movie, no card games - is a regular and completely normal part of all of that. It’s taken me a few years into adulthood to get it, but I think I do now, and I’m grateful to the person who pointed that out, so that I can appreciate much more now the closeness I have with my near and far friends and family.

i hope this message isn't too sudden. The staff and i have been talking about some changes to the site, and we wanted your weigh in.
To that end, we have two propositions we'd love for you to consider and share your thoughts on.
Proposition 1: Closing Townhall
The first matter is on the possible closure of /townhall/. To put it simply... the townhall experiment hasn't worked out as we'd have liked it to, and it may be time to close up shop.
When we started Townhall, we had a bold vision for what it might be: it was to be both a well-manicured garden for sensible debate and discussion of sensitive topics, but also a place where politics and heavier topics could go, allowing pony to be a bit more carefree.
Unfortunately, it has not worked out that way. We haven’t had the time and resources to proactively manage the garden. And though we’ve had many helpful reports, it has often been difficult to manage the reports within the expectations of Townhall’s userbase. Which is to say, in plain words, that we don’t know what’s best for Townhall, and as it stands, it does not seem like Townhall is good for anyone.
Unless then, there are serious protests, the staff feels quite strongly that it is time to close townhall. What are your thoughts?
Proposition 2: IP/Tripcode Login
Ponyville's open door and gentle hand policies mean that while we are a very inviting community, with a focus on loving and tolerating even those who would wish us ill, the nature of an open board without much protections means that we must rely on users to cooperate with not only the rules as written, but the spirit of the law, so to speak, to help keep Ponyville a kind, fun, gentle place to be.
Unfortunately, it does not always end up this way, and keeping on top of these problems requires a lot of vigilant moderation... which is very taxing, and to be frank, still requires the cooperation of those being moderated against -- the site's open door policies means that is very easy to, say, skirt a perma-ban if one so chooses.
An IP system, or other such a login, will enforce a degree of accountability, and create more serious consequences for actions. But, it may act as a barrier to entry for both new users and old users alike, which is why i would love your thoughts on it.
i will also openly admit too that with Prop 2 comes an expectation that all of our users will be more willing, perhaps, to abide by the site's rules. i don't anticipate heavy-handed enforcement, but the enforcement that is levied is likely to be more effective, and that is something to keep in mind.

Please report incidents and the staff will deal with it. Also, please do not engage with political content, it makes things harder for us to fix and clean up!
