Every damn year someone posts a labor Day thread, I ask what Labor Day even IS, I get a perfectly good response and then I have completely forgotten again by next year.

Also I did commissions today so I guess I worked.

Well it's a very US holiday, so I don't blame you for not knowing; basically it's a celebration of American Labor Movements and Unions for their contributions for workers rights in the US.

but I invite you to not have to work today too! take the day off with us ^_^

actually i looked into that! basically back in the day, rich folk saw this time of year as the last time to potentially go on a summer holiday, so they would wear their summer clothes (which were primarily white) and have fun. However poorer folk don't have much option for any sort of vacation; and this was back when you really emphasized staying in your lane for fear of social suicide, so the poorer folk dare not wear white or lighter colors in general, less they draw the ire of the rich folk during their vacations.

so all you have to do is be rich, and you can then wear white all you want!

Labor Day began first, specifically as a parade.

May Day was started later, to commemorate the Haymarket Affair in Chicago.

Labor Day became a holiday in 1894, specifically to honor non-radical workers.

Therefore, May Day is a communist/socialist focused celebration while Labor Day is a general workers day unrelated to radical ideologies.
