...with Windows' switch to the operating-system-as-a-service model, --have decided to stop fighting Windows and Microsoft and switch to Zorin OS (seamless transition from windows to linux, especially with help from AI) and also learn Mint. Windows 10 is my last windows OS -- been a good run
(y haven't u switched 2 linux yet? ...or am i the last unicorn?)

>>1204621I see Zorin also attracted millions of downloads. Lotta people are legit pissed at MS and Copilot worming its' way into apps like Notepad. All while more RCEs are exposed.
I run GNU+Linux and OpenBSD on my main laptop here. Haven't had any incentive to use Windows on my own machines for a year or two now.

Using my PC mostly for gaming - and I mean partially ancient gaming (like 90s stuff), there's not much choice but to remain with Windows.

>>1204648The ways of the Unix world are not without problems either, but there is a lot less AI feature creep involved at least.
At this rate, MS is doubling down on the AI trend, even as outlets like OpenAI are set to lose more money than before.

I've been using Linux as my main OS for years. I only ever boot into Windows if there's something like a game that doesn't work in Linux.
I made the mistake of updating from Windows 10 as it reached its end of life support, but in my defense, this was before they went all in on turning Windows into an AI-first OS, and I don't need to use it enough to be affected all that much, at least directly.

Switched to Linux recently. Mint specifically.
The Dell I put it on was configured horribly (it used to be a business computer), so it took some finagling, and I also have to use the boot menu otherwise Dell screws up the boot timing and it hangs.
But even with that nonsense, it's already miles better than dealing with Windows.
My main is a Mac given my graphics, audio, video editing hobbies. And Mac is unix based anyway, so everything is super familiar.
Definitely looking forward to doing a lot more with Linux.

I use fedora with hyprland. All I may do is look at text, but at least it's text drawn with GPU acceleration.

Linux will soon be illegal in California.
No.1204922
>>1204894We already know that MidnightBSD will add nonfree terms to its' license to prohibit desktop use in California.
This can't be enforced with the kernel Linux, as it is forever stuck at GPLv2, but it can apply to other parts like Python and X11 that are released under a pushover license.

I'm planning to switch to Linux when Windows 10 support ends, because I've heard lots of things to suggest Windows 11 is abysmal dogshit and nothing to suggest it isn't.
I don't want to, because in my mind Linux has always been the operating system for nerds who want to program their own graphics drivers from scratch through trial and error so that they can play the zero (0) video games that run on Linux natively. But apparently it's at least somewhat better now, and I'm better with computers than I used to be, and I'd rather fumble a few command line inputs than get unavoidably facefucked by AI every five minutes and have no control over my own PC.

>>1205011Honestly this. This exact sentiment right here describes my relationship with Linux. I avoided it forever because I was bad with computers, but Microsoft has lost their minds and necessity compells me to consider that Linux has grown more user friendly as much as I have grown more tech aware. I have to hope that we've met in the middle, or at least close enough that I can learn enough to bridge the gap.
