Salazzle still mogs her tragically.
Such is the fate of any tailless loser.

But yeah, 1.0 is shockingly solid. Really fun, Albeit the grind for metal is still so, so very real.
Half a mind to organize a regular group game. Might be fun.

We're likely going to move soon anyways. I wouldn't fret too much on it.

I am quite split on Palworld.

I haven't played, so take anything I say about the gameplay itself with a grain of salt, but there is little about it that really looks like what I want from a Monster Tamer, and while there are definitely some designs I really like (there's some Panda thing I thought looked cool recently), I do feel they skirt a little close to the "straight ripoff" line on a lot of these creatures.

At the same time, I am on the side of it being a good thing that it wasn't cracked down on too hard, because Lord knows that would kill the chances any other indie Monster Tamer game would ever have.

It's an odd duck for me, but eh. Glad to hear you guys are having fun at the very least.

We can stay for a bit I guess. I do want to remake the cliff house. Or at least find a more suitable spot for it.

That's what I mean. We'll inevitably find somewhere else. Beauty of the game, really, is that you don't need stay in one place. Bases are fairly easily moved, albeit the storage is sometimes a pain.

>but there is little about it that really looks like what I want from a Monster Tamer,
What're you looking for in a game like that?
Something a little less 'sandbox' and more structured perhaps?

> I do feel they skirt a little close to the "straight ripoff" line on a lot of these creatures.
While it's a bit of the popular narrative, I have to say, the vast, vast majority aren't. Like, there's only about, maybe, 10-20ish I can say are "blatant ripoffs". And of those, only two are to the point of being actually distracting, as, most of those 'rip offs' are like Chillet or Loveander where they're pretty unique in their own right even if you can kind of see what they were trying to do.

It's one of those things a lot of folk like to parrot and push, but, I don't think they're actually aware the game has over 200 pals, the vast majority of which are fully unique designs in the first place.

> I am on the side of it being a good thing that it wasn't cracked down on too hard
It was, though. They just weren't stupid about it, and Nintendo had no real room to stand. Even when they tried to patent frankly absurd things like 'throwing an object to summon a creature' or 'gliding via monster', or any of their other claims that ultimately got tossed out (and, in the US at least, attempted to get patented AFTER Palworld came out...)

Keep in mind that a huge chunk of Palworld's revenue had to go to fighting off Nintendo because of all this.
Frankly, I find it a wonder we got 1.0 at all, let alone it's this solid.
Any other indie title, even if they got money like Palworld, would've caved, wrote off the game, and moved on.
These guys got my support for standing up to the BBEG that is modern Nintendo.

Well, certainly not the MMO Action RPG-style I am seeing from gameplay videos. But then I am a bit of an old school turn based RPG fan, so I'd prefer more focus on actual 'Mon collecting and battling. I feel like there are other games I can play if I wanna run around as a person with weapons fighting big monsters personally.

I think you misunderstand me. While I haven't sat down and carefully analyzed every Pal, I am perfectly aware that there are plenty more than the few popular examples people like to dig up. Hell, I JUST said there are definitely some I genuinely really like.

I remember the throwing object thing. That was ridiculous. Like I said - I am on Palworld's side on standing up to Nintendo trying to crack down on the genre and its conventions as a whole. That shit ain't cool, and I am glad it didn't get far.

So I'm not just sitting here going on some "Ugh fuck the ripoff game" spiel.

Just saying I am of two minds based on what (admittedly limited) knowledge I do have, and that the gameplay and visual style combo doesn't look super up my alley. I'm sure it's fun for those it appeals to, and I am glad it is for you.

In any case, it's unlikely I'll ever play it much.

She does have a tail. Two of them, actually. Double the tails, double the simping. Too be fair, we'll test if Lovander is waifu baby-mama or not once we see the new pals.

>>1209413
Some of the pals are pretty much rip offs to be honest. A lot of them, while some what similar are so different that they have their identity, and a lot feel completely unique. Either way, pals do have a different feel to them than pokemon in my opinion.

As for Nintendo getting their buttholes blown out by the Japanese government and video game fans, that was a long time coming.

When the game first released pre 1.0, I had my complaints about the game. It was good, but felt emptier and less polished. From the mechanics to the world, to interactions. 1.0 feels like an actual good-game. Been addicted to it.

I'm not familiar enough with the genre to really say, but, considering there aren't a pile of actions or skills you gotta think about, I don't think it's quite applicable.
I'd describe the player-side combat as 'dark souls' esque. The pal-side is pretty much entirely inactive from your own end, save for activating pals; Placing, as well, should you use a mod to restore the throwing ability.

>, I am perfectly aware that there are plenty more than the few popular examples people like to dig up.
Sure; My point was more that it is not really "a lot of" the designs. The vast majority are unique designs, and even those that're 'ripoffs' in a sense are usually different enough to be their own thing.

>Like I said - I am on Palworld's side on standing up to Nintendo trying to crack down on the genre and its conventions as a whole.
Sure, as am I. The point was more, though, that they WERE cracked down on hard by Nintendo.
Nintendo just overstepped massively trying to do it, and Palworld, unlike most games, let alone indie ones, had the integrity to actually fight them on it even at great costs to themselves.

Frankly, it's something that has needed to happen for ages, and I was expecting would only really occur when, though this may've been whistful thinking, some fans get together to challenge some of their more shady practices.
Though this is certainly an acceptable route.

Flat ribbons hardly count.
Chillet bodies the pink harlot.

> It was good, but felt emptier and less polished.
Similar stance;
I thought it was good enough to sell full price as a '1.0' game mind you.
Because I've played a ton of games that have less.
Buuuut, it was pretty obvious certain things were lacking, and rather than follow the style of most game studios these days, they decided to actually make the thing pretty 'full'.

Albeit I am having issues with the total lack of anywhere 'empty' now... But that's for the basebuilding side, and a result of me not really liking their usual flat dirt patches they expect you to use.
