It's been a like fixed trope in the anime and video games community.

But I'm also hearing that some groups of people actually like to make all their hobbies a competitive thing so they are motivated to excel.

Not me though. i'd want to casually enjoy doing things without being reminded how everyone else is better at it than me.
(once had someone in my circle trying it on me and it didn't stick)

Anyways
Do you ever get involved in rivalship deals in real life?
Do you take well to rivalry?
Do you ever take your hobbies to the competitive level?

I'm really not a competitive person. I might like to get better at my hobbies for their own sake rather than for the sake of glorious victort in some competition. Like, I practice guitar for the sake of enjoying playing in a variety of styles and (someday) to write my own songs. I'm not trying to be a star or anything.

I think that if you do something enough you will eventually leave the idea of rivalry.
Rivalry is young.
Rivalry is childish.
Rivalry is inexperienced.
Rivalry is risky and chancy.
Rivalry is experience being replaced by fear.

Nah man.

Not like my shitty self esteem would let me survive having a "rivalry" with anyone. I'd mever consider myself good enough really to rival anyone

Are we talking about rivals in day to day lives? Or the trope itself?

in my personal life? not really, i don't really like to get heated with anyone in a competitive sense; i'd just rather have a good time

that being said, when it comes to sports, fuck the chiefs, fuck the raiders, and fuck the chargers!

I kinda hate competing.  Life itself is competition enough, I don't need to add extra competition to the stuff I'm trying to relax with.

Aren't rivals a fictional thing, like wizards?

Well, there are competitive hobbies for sure.

At some point in my life I personally had to work on a higher floor and I made a point of taking the stairs for exercise.
And then one day a co-worker joined me and insisted on making it a race to see who could take stairs faster.

I think this thread came up to me also since when I was watching The Click on youtube, he mentioned something of friendly competitions held at the gym to see who among friends was the fittest.

But in its lowest form, I suppose it can be about taking a hobby into competition.

I can garentee almost nobody here has the emotional intelligence for rivialy here.

Not throwing shade, just being honest. Look at what happened with Nonny for example. Just saying.

 No.1207583

Just gonna add. Im going anonymous because I've thought about it for a while now and have even considered leaving this community over it. Not because I liked nonny but what it represented. If you dont fit in, youre gone. Ponyville was supposed to be a place where people could be accepted if if they were a bit broken. Anyway that's my two cents

Which reminds me. I don't really get the fratboy culture of "Step outside and let us beat the shit out of eachother."

It kind of sits a bit in the whole rivalry / physical competition zone.

but it's just a ticket to permanent brain injury or other injuries. Espêrcially when glass bottles, brass knuckles or switchblades are involved.
But in some circles it's considered an act of cameradery it seems.

Hailing from a college crowd, too many stories around of this going south.
