Hi! I hope you all remember me. I don't post much. Been very busy for a long time.

BUT, I finally get a moment to breathe before even more big changes. This month, I'm moving to Illinois to work in Chicago!

I got a job working with Jackbox Games!

It's suuuper exciting and also super intimidating!
I'm sure I'll pop up more once I have a more... regular life schedule. Or if I just need some friends to talk to while I'm alone in a big city.

Good things thread? Good things thread.

So I'm not around much, but I wanted to update the world!

My convention season started, and I'm engaged to be engaged. AKA my boyfriend and I are looking at houses (well, farms, really), looked at rings, and he's gonna move out here and it's an inveitability at this point.

Also I'm flying out and getting an actual vacation to see him in February!

I haven't ever tried contrast paints yet! I've just been using regular base paints. It may take a little longer but I actually enjoy the painting side of things.

Though, I did order the assembly holder from GW. It should be coming soon... mainly because Skitarii arms are my fucking bane during assembly. I want something to keep it in place and steady while the glue sets.

i have finally, finally started watching an anime from beginning to end. i never watch anime, so it is a big deal!!

This show though, i discovered while watching interesting youtube video on medicine

it is such a fascinating show! it is about cells in the body, and apparently has so much science in it!

This show, it is called, Cells at Work. Have you heard of this one?

I had an IQ test and I scored “average” on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale. Average may not mean much but I was so excited to know that I didn’t have an intellectual disability!

What is an IQ test and is it an accurate assessment of one’s own intelligence?

To my knowledge....IQ, or intelligence quotient, is a measure of your ability to reason and solve problems. But is an IQ test an accurate measure of intelligence? I personally believe an IQ test is a fairly accurate measurement of one’s own intelligence

Generally speaking, there is no intelligence particle. So insofar as intelligence and IQ are both constructed terms, constructed to conceptualize human ability, IQ being specifically the standard for what is considered intelligent for a long time, I'd say that asking whether IQ is an accurate assessment of intelligence, is asking the wrong question.

A much better question would be, when we notice people perform well on these kinds of tasks that it takes to score well on an IQ test, are there meaningful neurological correlates, what can these tell us, and do the abilities people demonstrate in IQ tests, generalize to other areas of interest, and if so, which and how well?

It could be considered psychological, but is just as often as not an actual situation where one person (typically a woman) requires "help" from another (typically a man) in some limited but well-defined capacity. In the context of heterosexual relationships I believe it is the most natural way for people to "meet" for several reasons:

1) The activity provides an excuse for personal interaction while at the same time easing sexual tension between parties;

2) Dealing with a problem provides the opportunity for each party to "show what they are made of" in a straightforward and usually useful way;

3) Working through a problem with someone offers a snapshot of a range of character that would be hard to compress into simple rituals, and so is a quick way of establishing trust;

4) If the problem is addressed but the interaction doesn't take off, no one loses.

Such a scene may happen of its own course or be contrived either by the man or the woman (where "help" isn't really needed, but it is the convention which is important) and it may be deliberately avoided by either party for the same reason!

Being knowledgeable in a museum is just another variation on this theme, and if it is accepted by both parties may indeed make for a good first date!

Which series (live action/cartoon) gave you some of the best mindblow episodes?

With mindfuck episodes I would consider:
An episode that springs a huge plot twist on you while you wouldn't expect
Or an episode that is generally super weird and feels out of place (presumably if it is on the top of your list, comes to a great satisfactory conclusion)

I guess what I mean isn't that dreams can be a motivator. It's an important component of grit to keep a long term goal in mind.

But Akko and characters like her get handed a lot on a silver platter for little more than just closing their eyes and wishing harder. I guess it's meant to be symbolic and all that, but usually within the context of the stories it is real tangible power of some kind. I don't think that characters of these stories are entitled personality wise, but it sure makes them look it. I guess in my experience the world doesn't work that way. It portrays that dreams themselves are meant to materialize into something, rather than motivate. I think this applies to creative types as much as hard science/professional(?) types.

LWA is hardly the worst offender. It addresses my complaint more than once. I still liked it. But it goes through with the trope nonetheless. Perhaps I feel more sorrow for Diana than resentment for Akko.

that is certainly understandable, and i do get the complaint. i think part of it is that the story genre lends itself to that kind of fantasy becoming true. and in a world of magic, dreams and magical thinking actualize into reality.

what really helps kind of anchor akko for me is that somebody before her also had the exact same gifts given to her, and that is Chariot. she got the shiny rod, had the dreams of magic, and all the same chances. but she strayed from the path and lost herself in a way.

so i feel all the other characters and their arcs do bring a kind of balance and bouncing off point for her in a way.

and diana still got to realize her dreams too! she was just as much a part of that story as akko was! her smarts, talents, and efforts did not diminish her, and she was with akko in the finale. so i don't find sorrow for her in how she turned out, but rather for the lost time that she had.

Ah yeah. That and the one with Bender's downgrade had the weirdest feel to me with their twists.

Might as well chuck in the Simpsons: Much as the show changed in tone and after a while steadily faded in quality, I can recall 3 that had an extra weird feeling to me:
-the one where they include riddles and Maggie accidentally up with nuns. Weird the whole time, esp. the gag ending
-the one where Krusty gets a new sidekick, princess whatshername. Weird the whole time, out of place ending, as if they shot the writers and replaced them with people who have no idea what the Simpsons are just for the ending.
-the one with the stranded whale
Super weird. I don't recall anything except the ending.

i am still in Taiwan, with my family. i am having a good time, but a hard day. i have a stomach bug, and have been bedridden. My family is fighting too. Usually i can help to defuse, but i am stuck in bed, and things are especially bad. Things are bring thrown around and there is much yelling.

Faithfulness to only one person in a relationship for all of time.. it just seems so unreasonable. I'm absolutely positive some people can pull it off, but largely.. feelings change! People go on about how short life is, but it can feel very long if you spend it with someone you don't love anymore. Especially if you feel pressured to keep lying and say you do love them

I read all these stories and hear from people about how they were "wronged" by their lover leaving an intimate relationship or marriage, and it just strikes me as so bizarre. Do they really want their lover to stay unhappy with and lie forever?

When someone leaves a marriage or a long-term relationship because of changed feelings, it's hard for me to see anyone as having done wrong. Has anyone here been the subject of feeling they were wronged by such a thing? Or has anyone here broken up with some one because their feelings changed?

I don't personally date, but the more I learn about how closely people tie their self-worth into their love lives, the more I'm glad I don't
