i have a lovable collection of stuffed animals. each of them reminds me of a happy moment of my life. they are some of the few possessions i have that i truly treasure.

do you have favorite stuffed animals? Or just unique ones?

i have a stuffed horseshoe crab, that is very unique. my favorite stuffed animal is a little yellow crab, whom i love very much.

I took a walk on the cool sand dunes, brittle grass overgrown, and above me, in the night sky, above me, I saw. Bitter taste of unripe peaches and a smell I could not place, nor could I escape. I remembered other times that I could not escape. I remembered other smells. The moon slunk like a wounded animal. The world spun like it had lost control. Concentrate only on breathing and let go of ideas you had about nutrition and alarm clocks. I took a walk on the cool sand dunes, brittle gross overgrown, and above me, in the night sky, above me, I saw.

Mario facts from the SMB1 manual:

1. Bowser is a sorcerer king and the Koopa are a tribe "famous for their black magic".

2. The princess has been kidnapped because she's the only one who can undo Bowser's magic.

3.  Goombas are Mushroom people who have betrayed the Mushroom Kingdom.  Why they look nothing like the other mushroom people is a mystery.

4. "Spiny" is not the race of the things Lakitu throws from his cloud.  Spiny is the name of his pet. He's throwing his pets eggs.

5. Podoboos, the fireballs that leap out of lava pits, are given a personality in the manual and seemingly referred to as people.

6.  Bowser's magic turned the mushroom people into bricks (except for a bunch he kidnapped whole, and also Princess Toadstool for some reason).  The bricks you constantly break during the game are not those people,  however.  The only ones that are people are the ones that reward you with coins and powerups for freeing them.

7.  The manual constantly refers to you or other things dying.  Common nomenclature from players these days,  but pretty morbid for a Nintendo manual. There's no mistake,  though,  this is war and Mario is killing turtles and might die in the process.

>Explain the domino effect in full detail.

I am not your parents!  And I'm not sure if the implication is that kids in the 80s don't know what dominoes are?  I feel like kids today would still have some idea of what dominoes are.

>What determines the number of fireworks?

So secret it doesn't even fit into the secret info section.

For the podoboos, are they really sentient fireballs? Or are they creatures that can live in the lava and their bodies are just covered in lava, so that's why they look like fireballs?

General note, let your characters loose. Let them talk and let their motives and desires free of the preconceptions that you put on them. You don't have to control every little thing that they do. You might know where they're going, but how they get there can be left up to them.

Same with their dialogue. This has the benefit of sometimes you'll have a character who takes on their own agency outside of whatever plans you had for them. They have a better story to tell than the one you came up with for them.

there is something very calming to me about hymns. maybe it is nostalgia, but the holy sense they give makes me feel at ease, and hopeful, even when there is otherwise no cause for hope

ehh era's are finicky things. it may seem like it's part of a bygone era, given that 3d animation is industry standard and cheaper for production. but as tech and artistic approach, as well as different markets emerge, things shift and move all the time. Klaus is a fantastic looking 2d film that garnered a lot of critical acclaim. a new renaissance of 2d may not be out of the question, or something completely new altogether may occur.

i'm doin okay myself, just vibing and watching youtube. i finally am teaching in person classes again, so long as i adhere to masks and social distancing, which is fine by me.

I'm pretty good. Kinda bummed that it felt like i was starting to make a good friend, but showed up right as he's about to move out of state, so that's a shame. I didn't see any fireworks in my area, so that was a bit of a bummer, but it was still a lot of fun. We played magic basically all day, got some great pulls drafting an m21 box, and then played some commander, and one of the new decks is really running nicely. So all in all good stuff.

Work is work. Been fairly slow, but not bad. Apart from that, just subnautica and grisaia and deck-building for my commander decks. Kinda twiddling my thumbs waiting for quarantine to lift, i suppose. Bit frustrating that unemployed people are getting payed about as much as i am and i have to work, but eh, i'll get over it. Finished Yumiko's route in grisaia, was really excellent, better than i thought it would be.

I prolly gotta turn in now, but do let me know if/when you want to stream franxx. I have it all set up, just pick a time when i'm not working or otherwise preoccupied.

If you're still around and healthy enough to read this, you made it 4 months through the pandemic in the West.
So a little applause for that.

What will summer bring, huh?
Scorching hot sun?
Forest fires?
That hot Chinese pig's flu thing tag teaming Covid?

Who knows, as the Chinese say we may live in interesting times.

At least we're at the halfway mark of 2020.

What have you played/watched/read that caught your interest so far this year?

well, a really great example of this is strategy AIs, like Stockfish for Chess. predicting the best possible outcome is easy, and predicting the worst possible move also easy, but trying to choose a move between those is difficult for a computer, so finding a strength that a human can find entertaining is a huge challenge. many simulators I play against seem to be doing really well, then suddenly make a strange blunder even a human wouldn't make. it's as though they roll a probability die and choose a move based on that. I suppose you could analyze every single possible move, rank them in order from best to worst, and choose the item 70% from the top of the list, but that only works when there are few enough moves that a computer can calculate. In more complex games like Go, the computer cannot possibly calculate all outcomes very far forward, so it must choose sooner, which makes choosing the best or worst move even more difficult.

Designing a perfect machine, from an engineering standpoint, is easier than designing an imperfect one

 No.1043569

>>1043565

I think if we're imagining that someone could simulate the entire world, though, their capabilities of simulation aren't really in question.  Compared to where we are now, a perfect universal simulation is so massive that an imperfect one may as well just be assumed, because they're both in the realm of unimaginable.
