Hello everyone!

A friend of mine Looney the Turtle decided to do an online convention this weekend. Instead of a 1 day online con this will be a 3 day event lasting all weekend. If you're looking for some online fun and want to pony it up I encourage you to check it out.

Haha, I actually didn't even see the John Oliver segment. I found it through a furry YouTuber commenting on it as a result of John Oliver.

But let's be real, if I found it, I'd be putting that right up on my own wall!

I'm feeling a bit like kitty 2 today. And I'm putting in effort not to be kitty 1 or 5. I feel supernaturally tired right now, my sleep pattern has been terrible lately, maybe five hours at best the past week. I might have to start putting tech away before bedtime and start reading or something. Been thinking about starting a journal actually, probably would be good to have a place to unload the day's thoughts.

r.e. Yellow Magic Orchestra, oh I can't imagine that you'd do anything other than love them too

They're a HUGE influence as far as the development of modern Japanese music and thus all kinds of electronic material that you see in movies, TV shows, video games, and the like.

Here's a nice example of their work (keep in mind that this came out way back in 1979):

We watched future diary and darling in the franxx! If you like a fast-paced anime with a lot of twists and turns with a creepy stalker romance and no lack of violence and death, it's a ton of fun! Can be quite the tear-jerker later on, too. It's nothing if not engaging!

Darling in the franxx is the other one we've seen. I love it, but man does the recommendation come with a few caveats. Firstly, they made 26 episodes, only the first 15 are really relevant, watching 16 on will only taint your overall experience imho. Plus you've got to make sure your tolerance for innuendo is up to snuff. In spite of that, it does a truly fantastic job of telling a compelling love/action story. The characters and their drama is so well thought out, and it lands really well imho. It's definitely not without flaws, but it holds a special place in my heart, regardless. Nothing has ever made me cry more in my life than when i first watched the end of episode 13. Groove and i marathoned that one together last year.

I've got something nice, but I'm curious about changing it... what wallpapers do you all use?

For the purposes of the thread, let's consider phone and regular PC ones both. Something also doesn't have to be designed as such to be wallpaper either, with the art quality and file size slash file dimensions being the key here.

How long does it take to build an N95-mask factory?  How long until we can produce at least enough surgical masks for everyone in the US to wear one?

Yes, as I said before, that is for HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS to use, not just random people on the street. It's only useful when you're on the front lines of the issue, people using it otherwise only keeps it out of the hands of the people who actually need it by creating shortages

people aren't just going to buy ONE mask, they're going to panic and buy a bunch of them.

I'm not saying the masks don't help at all, otherwise I would be saying that medical professionals shouldn't be wearing them either, I'm saying the reduction of risk for the general population is much too small to risk shortages for people that need them badly by telling every day people they should wear masks.

Surgical masks aren't worn to stop the spread of viruses, they're worn so people doing surgery don't contaminate the patient during the procedure. Only the specially designed masks truly bring down the risk, and they have to be worn in the correct way.

>people using it otherwise only keeps it out of the hands of the people who actually need it by creating shortages
Hence the proposal to build more mask factories.  The CDC recommends that people who are infected with influenza or Coronavirus wear a mask when they are in proximity to uninfected people.  The problem is that many people are asymptomatic and don't know that they are infected.

 No.1026805

Depends on quality control and productions standards. I don't know anything about the topic, I just used to be friends with a guy who was an engineer in Puerto Rico for medical supplies factories and he'd talk about it.

But with quarantine being a thing lately, I am streaming a lot more.

Continuing my playthrough of Breath of Fire over on Twitch in just a moment, so feel free to join in! If the thread is allowed to stay, I may bump this thread any time I do for the duration of quarantine.

Hey everyone! It's day umpteen of quarantine for me, and i've been going alright for me. Although one thing that has been both a blessing and a curse is everyone has been posting art, memes, and general experiences from their time playing Animal Crossing New Horizons!

It's a blessing because the characters are cute, the art has been fun, and all my friends have been having a wonderful time!

But it's a curse because despite my effort in trying to enjoy the actual game, i just simply can't.

I want to, i really want to! but i can't help but find it boring with no real goal beyond doing daily chores, which just doesn't appeal to me ://

So this got me thinking, have you ever been in a similar situation as i am? Have you ever been unable to enjoy or understand something that everyone else seems to love?

remember to respect eachothers opinions in here, perhaps this could be a great way to learn and understand eachother ^^

As far as plots go, I recall offhand:

Casino Royale? Terrorist money guy plays a high stakes game that Bond needs to make sure that he loses at. Premise is frankly kind of lame. Yes, I'm aware that it goes back to an original story from Fleming. Still lame.

Quantum of Solace? American corporations in connection with international financiers are trying to steal the water resources in Latin America. Apparently based on real life trade practices. It's interesting, but... this is so NOT Bond. This is what I'd expect to see a documentary voiced by George Clooney about.

Skyfall? Bond faces Hispanic Bond. That's kind of it. And that's honestly rather brilliant. Bond having a near exact mirror image to tango with, Bond w/limits versus Bond w/o limits then... pretty alright.

Spectre? Apparently Dr. Evil is back. Blofeld, I mean. He's an evil European aristocratic dude who wants to take over the world... somehow... eh, this has been parodied to death, and everything is just... lame. There's no high concepts involved. It's Bond versus a bunch of jerks, essentially.

The case fatality rate (
CFR
)
is the number of deaths from a certain disease divided by the number of people diagnosed with the disease for a certain period of time.

The infection fatality rate (
IFR
)
is the number of deaths from a certain disease divided by the number of people infected with the disease agent (regardless of whether they are symptomatic or diagnosed) for a certain period of time.

Current estimates of IFR ranges from 0.17% to 3.60%, depending on a variety of factors, such as the age distribution of the population and the quality of available health care.  (If the hospitals all get full, IFR obviously increases.)  For reference, the 1918 Spanish Flu is estimated to have had an IFR of about 2.0%, and ordinary seasonal flu is typically less than 0.1%.

reminds me that there was something in the paper about the numbers shared regarding the pandemic.
For one, since only a part of the sick get tested, number of cases are multiple times higher and percentages are hard to take when the pandemic is ongoing.

bad news: many more cases are present than reflected in the numbers
good news: mortality rate seems a lot bleaker as you take it over the cases bad enough to warrant testing.
bad news: that means the number of infections symbolizes the number of cases severe enough to test.

also things about hard to compare the severity of outbreak between countries as the standard in how the pandemic is treated and tested can be different.
