On Wall Street, it feels like the end of the world. People are even liquidating their gold into cash

It will be interesting what happens tomorrow. Normally you get some elasticity the day after a crash like this but nobody likes holding stocks in a volatile market over the weekend, not with this many unknowns.

Perhaps an intraday rally with a partial route in the last hour? I wouldn't put money on it but that's the Wheaty Forecast.

Also I'd be wary of biotech. It looks tempting at this juncture but as efforts escalate and centralize then controls will likely be put in place to minimize "profiteering" i.e. profits.

I feel now there's a lot of stuff going down.
I transferred some money to stock accounts last year, funny enough

But I assume that even if my money will be worth half, it has tocome up sometimes. When this Corona stuff blows over, it will get back to where it was.

I assume, unless everything goes bankrupt, nothing much can happen.

Or if everything goes down the drain, society itself will already be there as well and we'll probably laying dead in our houses because Corona got to us before we had anyone available to help us.

sorry, i was defeating saddam hussein :PP

>hugs and kajis <3

i'm doing okay. i somehow pinched something in my neck and back, which is causing me some distress. I had to ice my neck before going to bed last night, because i couldn't get to sleep at all before hand. and i spent a good part of my day trying to manage, i'm feeling pretty okay now, but it's bleh

on the plus side, we did an off campus camera shoot lab to show off lighting stuff, and it was pretty fun! got some free coffee too, so i'm very pleased

then i talked with my film professor about potential strategies for post graduation career stuff. and that was super informative, and i feel pretty good about it

i also learned that while the classes will be put online, the media services area are currently going to open. so we'll be able to film our stuff, which is cool (although i'm lowkey bummed that i don't get to just stay home, but it's better to get the practice in and i like my groups)

and now, i'm kinda chilling. I need to write a treatment for a scene, but that one shouldn't be too hard. I could also do some editing for my production class, but i can't really focus as well as i want to at the moment, and it honestly doesn't need to be done until next week, so i'm gonna put that on a backburner for the time being

anywho, how are you?

yeah, it reduces the numbers of interactions quite a bit. We still need to find a bar/grill for our scene, but that's a question for later.

I think you might overestimate how many I even know of. But Troma is obviously the primary candidate, given that they are definitely a bastion for DIY film, have run for as long as they have, and the way Lloyd runs things and genuinely, thoroughly encourages people to create, no matter wat it is they have in mind. I suppose. I really probably wouldn't know how to approach a decently bi project anyway.

Sooooort of. I mean, we kept it in bigass containers that were padded to hell a back, so I basically just kept them on the floor and sat on the floor while working to avoid any high drops in case I DID drop something.

Not much at home, really, at least not in terms of movies. I finally saw JoJo Rabbit a bit ago, which I loved, but then I love Taika Waititis work in general.

I also saw the Addams Family 2019 movie and hooooo boy can the story in that one just go die, it's the most boring stock thing I ever saw... but all the Addams morbidity humor is great. I'd really probbalby have prefered if the movie was purely a jokefest.

The best thing was last week, when I went to see Sonic the Hedgehog and Color Out of Space in one day. Talk about a massive shift in tone. Sonic was everything I hoped for and wanted out of a Sonic live-action film, if no more than that and Color Out of Space is a heck of a wild ride. i was so sad to hear that the new addams family movie wasn't good, especially since i adore the live action films so much!

from "Gotta go fast" to "Gotta go FREAKIN OUT OF MY MIIIIIIIIIIIIND!!!"

I know i'm gonna see the Color out of Space somewhat soonish, cause my friend wants to see it too.

ooh ooh! i finally saw Bladerunner the other day! amazing how that film took place only 5 months ago ^^

Good ol typos, being a great allies.

Yeah no kidding. There's some life debt for ya. Can't beat that ISO control though.

Well, see, the thing about JoJo Rabbit that the marketing doesn't make clear is that it is NOT a complete thighslapper. It does still concern germany during World War II, and there are some pretty dark parts. It's funny, for sure, but not hysterical and complete shits and giggles. It's all the better for it though.

Only saw the first one of those, will have to see the second later.
It's just that the animated one does a good old "don't conform, weird is normal" moral and that's fine and all and fits well with the Addams, but its's just both as stock as it can be and as in-your-face and overblown as it can be, like it thinks it's the first to ever have this moral, and also has no idea ho to deliver it. Basically, when it's full of Addams-style horror jokes, it's awesome. When it's being an Edward Scissorhands remake, it sucks.

It was fun, it had speed, it had action, Carrey was a delight, tons of cute little details for fans, Schwartz is a great Sonic... it was just delightful, man.

As for Color Out of Space, prepare yourself. It goes nuts. It's weird and maybe a bit slow at first, but this is one of those films where shit escalates exponentially rather than through a normal tension curve. Once things get weird, they get weirder FAST. It's pretty awesome.

You know, I know I have seen Blade Runner at some point, but I remember literally none of it... and it's sort of become one of those movies that everyone brings up so often that I kinda just end up not caring. I know I really should give it a proper watch sometime, but I just keep getting an "Ugh, that one" feel when I hear the title.

The, what, two hundred different cuts of it that exist don't help either.

typos are the wild cards of the worl!

ooooh that ISO is so nice on the REDS MMMMM YES!!!

ahh so it did a Madoka Magica thing then eh? i love it! although i guess its easier to see a story about an imaginary hitler being darker than a story about magical girls :PP

that's so sad! well i'm glad there is still the other movies, and Edward Scissorhands too! that one does kick butt as well ^^

oh so delightful! and oh boy oh boy! at the end my boy tails! *squee* i'm so happy <3

also, i have a very strong suspicion about how the next movie will pan out, given what they set up, cause it's almost exactly like the video games!

you basically described my sex life ;33

well it's definitely worth a rewatch, it was fantastic ^^

also, odd bit of trivia, but i have the same type of tile in my driveway as Deckard has in his apartment ^^

i did see the "final cut" cause that was what was available on netflix. and apparently that's a good one, i think, i enjoyed it, so there is that!

I once read this story by Edgar Allen Poe
Essentially there's a plague and some rich Lord/nobility decides to open his castle to his healthy friends.
He stocked up on food and wine and wanted to spend a merry time with friends locked in until the plague died down outside.
So they start with a masked ball.
When the ball is ongoing, an unknown guests comes in and when the clock strikes Midnight (or so) he reveals himself as the face of the plague.
And everyone in the castle died.
And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

And I never thought this story would be relevant.

I already tend to feel a bit lonely in this tiny place I live nowhere near anything to do. This isn't helping.

Granted, pretty much all my activities take place at home, I have no job and my parents only live a bit away, so it's not that I am the most at-risk person, but it's hard not to get a bit scared either way.

Not a lot I can do about it.

I've at least gotten a friend to agree to take some time in the following day to just... open a voice chat and play Stardew for a good chunk of the day or something. And, health permitting, maybe have him drive to see me (we'd be just two people, my apartment, he has his own car, etc - minimal risk). He's entirely too health conscious to risk going here if he suspects the slightest thing is wrong, so I trust him to not "force" himself to go anywhere.

>>1024153
With time zone differences though, it's limited what I end up seeing of most of you.

But see above: I did try to do at least something. And for now, I am just gonna keep making videos, stream more often than normal (I just did six hours of Breath of Fire today), and just try to stay in as much as possible.

Ooooh, glad you liked it. But yeah, that sounds spooky.
I think one of the best parts about that film is how matter-of-factly the jumpscares happen when there's suddenly some super grotesque monster. Other than the alpaca-thing, any time a monster suddenly charges they don't exactly hide it, but we either get it from an odd angle or in weird lighting, and they don't really build it up or linger... the event just HAPPENS and it's bone chilling.

plus Nic Cage was so on pointe! i was actually asking myself if he just adlibbed some parts. there was one deleted scene where he just keeps doing stuff, like jumping jacks and headstands, and i'm wondering if they were all in character, or if the other actors were just trying to not lose their shit XDD

Andy, however, was in Portugal the day the lockdown was announced, got home friday, and was made to work today before being sent home, so there is a bit more risk. I am just hoping for the best. My dad has more or less barricaded himself - once again, not TOTALLY, he went to visit someone, but he does not go out if not necessary since he's 60+ and a prostate cancer patient (benign, but still, that shit can fuck with your immune system)

Well aren't you a hoot.
But naw, we had a good time. Saw Big Bad Fox and Other Tales, Year One, A Monster Calls and Ferris BUeller's Day Off. Good times.

Mmmmh. I mean, so far, he seems no worse for wear, but yanno.

It's become my favorite example of a movie knowing how to utilize Cage at his Cage-est.

It's about a day where, all of a sudden, some sort of illness spreads that gives people an irresistable compulsion to attack their own (biological) children. SO basically - ALL parents suddenly want nothing more than to murder their child the instant they see them. It doesn't actually change their core personality , they just get instantly bloodthirsty when they lay eyes on their own offspring.

Now, make Nicholas Cage play the father in the main family this movie focuses on, and get one of the dudes that did CRANK to direct, and I think you can imagien you have high-octane balls to the wall insanity.

The thing is, Cage's ability to flip in a lid really works for this role. It is a violent, black comedy, and his outbursts given the context manage to be simultaneously hilarious and terrfying. Especially since the movie also plays a little with these new murderous urges being a greatly amplified take on that just tiny bit of resentment parents will always feel for their children (for reducing them from "a person" to "just Mom and Dad" to quite Cage and his character's wife in the film) at SOME point but never admit.

It's completely nuts, and I highly recommend it.

Oh Ferris Bueller is hysterical. It's not really a classic over here the way it is in America, probably because our school system is so different that the movie seems even more surreal, but godamn there are so many amazing bits in it. Boone's secretary never fails to make me die laughing.
"They all think he's a reight-yeous dood."

Yeah, that was my point. For what is essentially just a fucked up black comedy horror film, it DOES actually address that litle nagging bit in us all that wants to get rid of responsibilities.
It's kind of  similar to God Bless America in that way. A way to live out  a completely normal but obviously morally terrible fantasy for our own satisfaction, disguised as a shits and giggles black comedy.

I mean of course, every kid dreams of skipping school and going on adventures, but we barely have concepts like school buses, our leave/absence rules are FAR less strict (no such things as hallpasses, for instance), and that upper-class lifestyle Ferris and his friends already live at home is very rare. So it's just a bit far removed from what any one of high school age here knows school to be like. We're familiar with the way american schools work, but that doesn't mean we can relate to it the same way.

Oh Cameron is a treasure. "whhat the NYEHELL'S THE MATTAH WITH YOU?"

I guess I just wasn't expecting that one. It got the best chuckle.
Mmmmh. I appreciate the entire episode basically being Eda swallowing her pride for some else's sake due to realizing she's forcing her own choices on someone. Bold move.

wow, your school system seems a lot less draconian than what i'm used to! must have been nice ^^

i love that delivery <3

i know right? like major points to Eda for swallowing her pride and risking herself like that for Luz! i very much appreciate this simply because it really did not seem like Eda was interested in teaching her through the show, and instead of making her out to be some secret grand sifu in disguise, she more or less admits that the school environment is better suited for Luz! it shows such great humility for her, and great trust in Luz

also, more and more it seems like Empire is not trusted by even it's own ranking members. The principal was even like "Hey, I'm a principal, not a NARC." at the end there!

Yeah, it was real nice to be bullied daily for ten years in a town so small everyone knows everyone, to the point some kids got their friend sfrom neighbouring town to visit just to join the piling on me cause everyone knew I was the one who they were "supposed" to bully, along with going to a school my mother worked at meaning I couldn't fart downwind withotu the entire facility being capable of describing the smell and volume. It was especially nice how every single time I was the one who got punished for "causing a ruckus" when I called someone an asshole after they had psychologically tortured me for five hours that day.

I am half-kidding - not actually mad at you or anything. Just saying school was alarmingly un-fun for me for a lot of different reasons.

That was remarkably interesting. Show seems to deliberately make a lot of characters as cartoonishly charicatured "evil" or "good" as possible in order to dig out a few extra layers.

Does rais ethe question of what will happen when Luz's summer break time is up though.

yes yes! it makes me so happy when people aren't cookie cutter bad or good, and that they have layers and stuff! and i loved the library episode because not only do we see that Amity has a softer side and is herself a victim to her siblings, but also that we see that through her eyes, Luz was a bully to her. i'm adoring their character progression thus far <3

I just read this very good article that talks about mitigation and suppression strategies for the virus and what the likely impact will be.

https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-the-hammer-and-the-dance-be9337092b56

I would highly recommend people taking the time to read it.

The numbers are based on estimates and formula that might not hold true in real life, so only time will tell whether these predictions are telling of what we have to look forward to.

But having read that article, and seeing that the US Federal government looks like it's moving towards a mitigation strategy to try to ease the damage to the economy (https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/03/24/politics/donald-trump-coronavirus-strategy/index.html), I guess this is the first time I'm feeling just a little panicky!

I've only played the first one, so I wouldn't call myself a big fan of the series, I'm just giving it a go since Andrea is getting it. But, I like collecting, I like not being stressed, I want to be able to use the game to express something about myself, in how I make a character and home. Nothing too special, but I'm hoping to be able to de-stress with it!

Do you have any games that you've used to really express yourself like that with?

I'm seriously imagining if I wanted to steal a license plate, I'd definitely return the screws, and probably leave a thank you and apology behind. Maybe spot them the eight bucks to replace it. Just because you need clean plates for your escape vehicle doesn't mean you have to be barbaric about it, right?

I fucked up my right index finger twice because I wanted to get to work with my hands! I'm just like, oh it makes sense now, this shit smudges and chips super fuckin easily! I don't think of myself as a very patient person when it comes to letting them dry, I just plan it out so I'm not gonna be doing anything for a while right before painting. I did these right before we binge watched Beastars, so all I had to do was not stick my hands in my pockets or fiddle with them (and I still had to redo a couple of them because I couldn't help but clean some dishes at one point lol).

Oh shit...

I feel kinda bad, wanting to see family when their sick is a horrible feeling. Still though, pulling a knife is pretty extreme

Yeah, I have a pretty bad habit of imagining people think the worst of me when I try to express myself in non binary ways. But, she may have taken my presence as positive and my carelessness in good humor. I mean, all my irl girlfriends have been so positive towards me with the way I express myself and have even helped give me tips and stuff. I've never once seen even a hint of rudeness toward me like this, more often than not people want to compliment me on the way I express. I'm literally surrounded by positivity, but I guess it still surprises me, pleasantly, to be treated kindly. Like I said, bad habits!

But yeah, getting a manipedi is hella sweet! It feels so nice, any dude who can't appreciate being pampered a bit is a fool! The last time I went with my brother, I tried to convince him to get his nails painted, but he wussed out, haha!

Yea, I get that, anxiety sucks. Especially that type, it's hard to not think that way.

Haha, honestly I might have wussed out too. My sister tried to get me a foot manicure, but that shit hurt! I'm a little hesitant to go back XD

I'm lucky to have so many supportive people around me now, but it's still a fact that tons of people look down on the way I am. Hopefully that keeps changing for the better in time!

>foot manicure
Lol, I don't know if you are just being a goof, or if you are channeling Applejack here! Ella, darling, they call it a pedicure c:

I think they can be a bit rough with the treatment, but nothing should be painful at all. The place I've gone to was really fantastic, it included arm, hand, leg, and foot massages. You come out of it feeling pretty dang good! Totally should give it another go, like, if they still have nail salons in the post apocalypse!

You know, I hate to be in a frenzy. But I do hear people asking to stay inside. First until start of April and then until Mid of April, flattening the curve, you know.

People warn that now is the start and expect the peak of cases coming in at the start of April.
The truth is that nobody at this point knows or can predict what will happen.
We may as well go into June, when 9 million cases in a country makes you a blessed country and over 500 000 people dead in your nation is gonna be a minimal number.

It's scary, really.

What scares you about it? (except the give instinctual fear of many people dying in short time, of something invisible to add)

we currently live with that hope that if we stay inside a bit, things will get better.
People and professionals state that the coming weeks will be important and we should see the peak of the pandemic come in. Then we can slowly get back to life as it was.

But I worry about the incertainty. By the thought that things will not resolve in the upcoming weeks and if we're lucky to stay healthy enough, it will be a long time before we can get back to life as it were.

well, I do worry about more climate boogaloo
Last summer we had more heatwaves than usual.
So if we got like a huge heatwave, days to weeks at once, I wouldn't be surprised.

I wonder what the impact will be if Corona persists or gets a wave 2.
