Actually, it might be October-November.
>>1211588Nice.
I would start my own /rp/ thread, but I'm still putting together my Sonic RPBG. And honestly, even with the tweaks I'm adding to it, I don't know how "balanced" it is.
But it's suppose to be as easy as Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf and other mainstream roleplay gamebooks that rely on a single d6 over dice-varieties. A gameplay style that is very easy to adapt to, but elaborate enough for character development. And while Sonic RPBG lacks things like "Levelling" or "Health" (sort of), the gameplay itself can still be adapted for such things.
It's either that or I learn how to play GURPS which I heard is a standard TTRPG system. (In fact, Sonic RPBG does use a freeform point-buying system over rigid levelling.)

>>1211592Well, this Sonic RPBG of mine was inspired by the "Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Gamebooks" which I proudly own the whole collection. I simply adapted it around more modern elements from Sonic games.
For example, in Sonic Heroes, Sonic and his friends were in groups of three, each team with a "Speed", "Power" and "Fly" type character. So I had that as prime statistics. Given three wasn't enough, I introduced "Technique" as a fourth type. Ideally five types would be ideal but I wanted to keep it simple and figured these four primary stats cover all the physical attributes well.
As for "Secondary Stats", that's Charisma (Charm), Knowledge (Know), Perception (Percept),Willpower (Will) and Luck.
Instead of numbers (sort of), you rank your stats from A (best) to E (worst) with S-Rank being for certain Class-Types. Ranks determine the point value of your various attributes.
When it comes to challenges, they require a stat roll against a Difficulty Number.
For example, if Difficulty Number is
7 and the stat I need to challenge it with is 5, then I must roll 5+d6.
1d6 + 5 = 10If the number is 7 or higher, then I succeed the roll.
If the number is 6 or lower, I failed the roll.

Take this character card of Sonic I made for example.
>Primary StatsSpeed
Power
Fly (substituted to "Jump" for non-flying characters. Though I suppose for underwater characters it will be "Swim".)
Technique
You rank all of these from A-E. Given there are four stats and five letters means you'll have one letter, of your choosing left out.
S-Rank is also optional, for those are especially good at the skill-set.
>Secondary StatsCharisma
Knowledge
Perception
Willpower
Luck
Like the Primary stats, they are also ranked A-E. they do not have an S-Rank given it's more rounded that way.

>>1211630Other than a Player Character card, players also have three or four Skill Cards.
>Skills.Race Skill Cards are default Skill Cards that all players start off with, they consist of racial abilities.
You can choose two other Skill Cards to choose from which consist of various abilities.
>Abilities. The nine squares consist of "Abilities" associated with the Skill Card. The GM grants player a set number of "Experience Points" that they may spend of unlocking abilities.
(Certain Abilities are "stacked", as in you unlock the top one first and must spend another Exp. Point to unlock the one under it. Such as the Spin Jump followed by the Double-Jump.)
>Experience Points.Given the game doesn't have a levelling system, the GM may reward players with a few Exp. Points after every mission.
They look like yellow ♦ markers, used to mark which abilities you unlocked.
>TiersAt first, you can only spend Exp. Points on Tier 1 abilities.
In order to access Tier 2, you need at least 2 abilities.
In order to access Tier 3, you need at least 5 abilities.
>Could the RPBG gameplay be adapted to My Little Pony?I can imagine it be adapted to most things, but not without tweaks here and there.
For example, "Magic" could be added as a fifth stat to determine how much MP you have.
But, in my revised version of Sonic RPBG, I've introduced "Ring Energy" to certain Skill Cards. Every gold ring you collect (the health and currency of the game), you get one "Ring Energy" (depicted as a yellow "⍟" symbol). You don't lose Ring Energy if you lose or spend rings, it's just a means of using abilities with. you can collect as many gold rings as you want, but you have a limit of 100⍟.
No.1211637
>>1211635ah, i c. i like the a-e ranking system, as it reminds me of f-zero gx's ranking system. im also not sure if mermicornos can fly yet, since they do have wings (like alicorns), so i am still a bit confuse....
so, for my mremicorno, i might go with...
Species: Mermicorno
Speed: C
Power: D
Fly (Swim): A
Technique: S
Charisma: C
Know: E
Percept: B
Will: A
Luck: D
technique i guess would be the creative force (somehow combined with will as primary way to defeat foes, even tho power is low?) ...mermicornos are pretty weak without their creative force and average speed i think or even a little slow at swimming .... ...then swim would b swimming ability (dodging & maneuvering?)
No.1211639
>>1211637I've actually watched all of Mermicorno: Starfall that one time.
(I can imagine a mermicorno-version Epic Mount depicted as a sharkicorno, maybe a relative of Sawtooth, and making the Creepy Kelp Forest his home.)Mermicornos, as a franchise, is a spin-off to Unicornos.
https://tokidoki.fandom.com/wiki/UnicornoSome unicorno have wings, so I guess if some mermicorno have wings then they can fly, though given mermicornos live under the sea, do they even need wings if they can swim just as good?
(Come to think of it, an underwater RPG consisting of characters who are natural swimmers, that would make Fly/Jump/Swim entirely redundant, compared to Speed.)
And yes, Technique would be a good fit for a mermicorno's creativity.
If you played Sonic Heroes or Sonic Riders game, you get the general gist of Speed, Power and Fly. I added the Technique Class for players who are more for the use of tools and weapons.
Anyone can fire a weapon in Sonic RPBG, but require successful rolls in Technique, Perception and Luck to use. Certain skills grant "Arms: Weapon" to allow for certain types of weapons to just need Technique for use.
While in most leading TTRPGs, enemies count as their own NPCs with stats, in my RPBG, enemies have a Difficulty Number, an Action Number and a few set health points. The health points are usually low but team work is still encouraged for multiple enemies or enemies with higher health points.
Almost all characters give the same amount of damage, with a few abilities granted +1 or +2 in damage to certain attacks.
I know lack of levelling or shared range of damage output may seem off-putting to experience TTRPGers who prefer growth and strength, but as I said, I based my gameplay more off gamebooks than TTRPGs that use a very standard, simple system. And in choosing a standard-simple system means the adventure and journey can be more enjoyed than worrying over stats all the time.
No.1211640
>>1211636>>1211639interesting. now im not sure if mermicornos would have good "technique" or good "magic," but from my understanding, their creative force isnt based on mana (although their gems are) (have watched through ep 10) and they can lose their creative force suddenly for no apparent reason, like from
eating spicy foods ...so "Technique" does seem a potentially-better fit. ...
might see if there is a unicorno show later, but the fact that the mermaidicorn in mermicorno looks and kind-of even acts like a twilught sparkle cosplayer might, the religious symbolism behind the color selection of the different mermaidicorns & the general interaction style is very fun
perhaps they will fly in a later ep ( no spoilers, pls, thx :) )
i was wondering wat the "will" is specifically, though ...
i like the idea of arms:weapon & since the mermicornos seem to getting
something like weapons with the gems, etc. -- could work.
do all attacks depend on the combination of technique/percept/luck or is it situation dependent?
...so it seems you wanted to strike a balance between a rules-focused system and a story-based system? ...i saw a youtube video of some people playing a pirate story-driven system once --forget the name. i have inly a little experience in ttrps -- watched some videos and played a few times with different systems here & there, watched some videos, but thats about it

>RanksA = 6

E = 2
F = 1
>Primary StatsSwim (Speed+Fly)
Power
Technique
Uh... preferably two or three new attributes.
>Secondary StatsCharisma
Knowledge
Perception
Willpower
Luck
Creativity
Given creativity is more of a mind/spiritual thing, I figure it be best to fit in the Secondary Stats. Not only that, but it will allow for all A-F ranks to be used.
>Future projects with RPBG.Sonic the HedgehogRight now, I'm making my Sonic RPBG for Tabletop Simulator. It will be released on the Workshop so that anyone with TtS can play it.
Super MarioWhile I'm no fan of Super Mario, I might do a Super Mario version. I like the idea of both games used for crossover adventures.
My Little PonyI might make a My Little Pony version, one that can be used either on TtS or Ponyville's /rp/ board.
My own fantasy setting. My own, original primal-era fantasy world setting. Like Dungeons and Dragons or The Dark Eye (Well, more like Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf), allowing people to have their own adventures around it.
Maybe, as an alternate to the board game aspect of RPBG, make gamebooks as an alternative. "Role-Playing Book-Game", which still fits the acronym. May have to look into the Fabled Lands series or Endless Destinies: The Clockwork City.

My "goal" is to make that test-man a playable character in Godot. Preferably Broser-based.

I want to present an itch.io link to a test-demo of you playing as that man, exploring the scrapyard, especially with interactive items and scenery.
I might include a pause menu where you can switch to different styles of gameplay.
What would be the point of this demo? To prove I can do it! That and if I wanted to make games in the future, if I had gameplay prepared in advance, I could re-use said gameplay for various projects to save time in development.

And if not any time soon, I'll continue work on my Sonic RPBG. Now that the Zone Maps are done, it only takes about twenty minutes to make one of the cards.

The reason why I am redoing all my cards is because I lost the original photoshop files and templates I had so I couldn't make new cards in the original style I had. No.1211663
>>1211658>perhaps. would probably be best to play within the bounds of the original design first before thinking about modificationsPerhaps, yeah. While I was mostly adapting from Sonic Heroes' class types, Speed, Power, Fly/Jump along with the addition of Technique are a pretty balanced quaternary of physical attributes.
And while Sonic RPBG doesn't rely on HP or MP, it wouldn't be difficult applying something of the like. The number of Health Points for an individual could be Power+4 or something like that. (The Skill Card for Humans and Zeti have an ability called "Stamina" which is just that, allowing them to be more durable than Mobians and Robots.)
I admit, Sonic RPBG may still have issues which I have overlooked. I'm hoping if I ever finish it and present it on Steam Workshop, I will get feedback on how best to tweak and fix the system.
For example, it's hard to gauge appropriate Difficulty Numbers of enemies and challenges. I believe three is a standard difficulty, but if users will be using their A or S-rank skills, then 7 or 6 would just be skippable at that point. But if I go with 10-12 then it maybe too difficult? i dunno. I'm hoping for feedback.
>perhaps. would probably be best to play within the bounds of the original design first before thinking about modificationsWell, the idea of making my own fantasy setting could be a way to adapt the gameplay for more traditional RPG elements. In the video games, Sonic does not have a traditional Health-gauges or the like, which is why gold rings serve as both health and currency in the game. That would be a feature unique to Sonic RPBG.
If I did make, say, a Super Mario RPBG, I would have to give that game a new health system to represent the games. Such as making three hit-points the standard for all playing characters, given that's traditional to both bosses and Mario since Galaxy.
That or however Legend of the Seven Stars did it. I never played that game.
>maybe some kind of friendship system layer of sortsI believe the Tales of Equestria had something similar. You can choose to represent one of the Elements of Harmony and if you perform any actions to that element, you get a Friendship Token. These tokens can be used to allow for rerolls or skip rolls.
