In the last 4 months, I played myself from Kingdom Hearts all the way to Kingdom Hearts 3. I think I'm done with it for another decade until I can decide to catch up to 4 and 5.

I don't think I will be picking up Melody of memories. I'm not that interested in rhythm games.
It's a shame that you can no longer access the chi / Union chi browser games. Because as usual they pack some important story points in there as well.

I did replay KH1 a few years ago, as I own the 1.5+2.5 collection. I tried Chain of Memories and instantly just wasn't that into it. 2 I could stand to play again for sure.

I think the story there was the interesting part and on replay, it felt a lot less like Kingdom Hearts but with "memory" instead of "heart".
The card gimmmick for battles, however is annoying, especvially in early game. Eventually, you can pretty much grind out broken decks.
I still put it on easy for myself, though.
Kingdom hearts eventually isn't that incomprehensible as the meme goes for the story. but the series basically requires you to play all the games to follow along.

With the card stuff, a lot of rooms look the same. But you get instant access to a map detailing all the rooms and it highlights where you are and where you have to go to.

the card combat mechanics was the single worst experience i've ever had in any video game, and i purposefully played Riku's story on easy just so i can avoid having to interact with the combat on any level!

You need to design your deck in groups of three, but you also need them cards to make meaningful sleights once every third card is removed for when you go through the deck a second time. You can make those cards shiny, because you’re going to lose them anyways. Then stick a recovery item or two in to reload the whole deck. Finally, a few 0s as the last cards. Since they’re at the end, you can access them easily with a few button presses to break any sleights the enemies try.
… you know what… after just trying to explain my method, I can see why you hate it.

Lots of 9 and 8 and 7 and then mix the cards up a bit. Sonic blade is your friend.

It messes with my ordering, but the elixir will reload all my cards anyways. Its also kind of amazing to think that CoM is originally a 2d game and they fully remade it to be 3d in the final mixes.
Sorry to interject myself into your conversation. I saw KH and got excited. It's kind of my jam. I've got them all except that weird rhythm one. I guess I better play it before 4.

it's one of the worlds most influential film festivals, so people all over the industry focus on it, and many films that go to theaters sometimes will be shown there first; and it's common that many big names in the film industry will be there.
now it's historically been in Utah, but this year is the first time it is in Colorado, which means I can actually go there; and I want to be a volunteer to actually be there to help out and make connections
it's not guaranteed i will get the gig, but getting the volunteer role would be hella awesome!

Been waiting to catch up on the series for some time now, but it was the major incentive. So this year has been a Kingdom Hearts summer for me.
I am limited to the games that aren't just a cutscene reel though.
And it's a shame chi and especially Union chi are no longer playable, since these games provide some more backstory on Larxene / Marluxia which even the back cover summary doesn't provide.
Finny that KH3 has a battle where you get namedrops of Union chi players as if they were a patreon subscriber reel.
