As said, things can be rather cozy, but it's been a bit since we just had a fresh chatty thread.

A few years ago I had a bit of fun here posting highlights from a Stellaris game with the Star Trek mod. Well, recently Dwarf Fortress released on Steam, I was thinking maybe I could post here about my first attempt at a fortress and the undoubtedly ignoble end these dwarves will have.

Otherwise just chat.

The fortress begins. So far I've just been trying to get stuff set up and each Dwarf their own work station and living quarters.

Also trying to get alcohol production up and going.

I'll have to look more into it.
Might be fun.

So there I was, coming back from Nuka-World minding my own business. Then Paladin Danse is as dense as he is and decided to make an attempt against an adherent of elitism. Mankind redefined. God, I love this game! Always typical of me to play this game very much.

Chatty threads are good.

The name Dwarf Fortress reminds me of an episode of Lizzy McGuire, where Gordo gets obsessed with some game called Dwarf Lord, or something.

I don't actually know anything about Dwarf Fortress though. What's it about? Sell it to me.

>>15806  Unless your dividends outpace inflation year over year, which is something I've never seen from a legitimate business, you're just going to end up breaking even and losing money long-term.  Each year inflation beats your dividends is a compounded loss.  Note that high dividend stocks tend to be little more than money laundering schemes, which pay out their entire value in dividends over time.  i.e. buying a $10 stock, and then getting $1 back every year for 10 years - while your stock decreases in value by $1 every year - just so the CEO can get paid off the interest.

>>15808  Their current yield is 3%.  Depending on what numbers you think are accurate, that's at best 1/2 and at worst 1/5 of inflation.  This is not a good long-term strategy on its own.

You can sell covered calls and reinvest the gains as if they were dividends.  This is what I've been doing.  It's how I turned a stock with 1.2% dividend rate into an 14% effective dividend.

>>15810  It's the same reason savings accounts can only lose value over time: the bank is never going to pay you a higher rate than inflation, so every day your money sits in a bank, it becomes less valuable.  Even if your $1000 in the bank slowly grows to $2000 on paper, when you withdraw it and finally decide to use it, you'll find that you can't buy as much as you could have with the initial $1000.

I hope it works for you.

>>15816  the people who created them, and the pump-and-dumpers.

Not really.  Classic banking allows a depositor and the bank to both benefit from the interest payments of loans made based on those deposits.  But with fractional reserve banking, the bank doesn't actually need deposits at all, so there's no reason for the bank to reward (pay interest to) someone for making a deposit.  This is why savings accounts have effectively zero yields, and why CDs also have effectively zero yields.  If you deposit, the bank will take your money and use it, but they're not going to give you any reward for the privilege.  This is also why the money supply considers savings and checking accounts to be identical nowadays - because in effect they are.

Should people rinse their tea or something?

Ah, Fallout 4. Decent foundation to mod, but the regular game left me feeling quite disappointed. But, that's Bethesda in general for me.

>>15795
Indeed.

I don't think I've ever watched that show.

Dwarf Fortress is a colony management game/simulator. When you start a game, it generates a world with geography, mineral composition, and then it places civilizations in that world. Then the game generates people and history within that world. Monsters, people, heroes, villains over a specified time period. Anywhere from 5 years to 500 years. Then it takes this fantasy history, and it gives you seven dwarves. Each dwarf has a history and personality. You are their guiding hand, you assign tasks that need doing. Things like digging, construction, industry. The catch is you do not have direct control over your dwarves. If a dwarf is upset perhaps, maybe instead of mining like you have assigned, he's going to take matters into his own hands and axe murder that motherfucker who stole his socks. Perhaps a traveler from a far off village has come to your fortress and along the way passed through part of the world that has been occupied by a nefarious necromancer, and this traveler has been turned into a vampire and is now mingling with the dwarves in the tavern you lovingly designed unbeknownst to both you and your dwarves. Maybe your fortress grows and from it there eventually arises a truly mighty dwarf, a hero worthy of his own legend, who will seek to accomplish mighty deeds and so braves the depths too greedily delved to fight the monster that has plagued the community for years. While the graphics are very minimal, originally actually just basic ASCII art, the game simulates and logs the actions of the battle, bestowing you with an in-depth understanding of how the struggle of a titan against the most dangerous being under four feet tall is waged.

The Steam release has come out recently, giving the whole game a fresh new visual style and innovations such as mouse controls. Importantly, graphical presentation is largely utilitarian. Animation is largely nonexistent and is primarily there to communicate information to you. Most of the depth is in various menus and whatnot. Dwarf Fortress is an extreme example of function over form. The amount of depth to...  everything is intimidating but requires some investment for you to reach. The amount simulated however is so incredibly in depth and at your disposal it becomes capable of generating absolutely incredible stories as a result. If you've ever heard the term Boatmurdered thrown around, that originates from the story originating from a game of Dwarf Fortress.

Also there's languages for races, which appeals to me personally.

The game has been in development since 2002 and is the life's work of some very dedicated people. It's not for everyone. But this is the origin point for a few other things I love, probably most obviously Rimworld, so I'm enjoying my time with it. But it's a lot, I must admit.

Good music too.

It's literally HoI frontlines with the units abstracted away. They've been trying to make this busted system work since the 90s. All the jank you get with frontlines doing weird stuff is present in HoI4. As a WW2 sim you're using far more complicated battle plans that you can use to anticipate and prevent the worst bugs but you still need a lot of micro to keep the battle plan from crapping itself. A lot of the systems related to warfare feel like they weren't actually tested properly. That could just be because abstractions have removed player feedback.

I like the politics system, especially the domestic politics system. I think it's the best they could have done with the pieces they had.

The economic system is good on paper, but it suffers from a scale problem. As a small struggling economy you lack the means to actually make meaningful decisions, while as a large economy the interface is unwieldy to actually make any meaningful decisions so you end up just playing an idle game which isn't so bad but you have very limited ability to do anything proactively for warfare or for foreign politics, besides clicking on Revolutionary Canada and trying to figure out what makes them revolutionary and why you can't do any diplomatic plays.

the system does what seems best for its emotional wellbeing. the others weren't as popular despite being fond of themselves, so having something cute and lovable like you out front is better for the overall emotional wellbeing of the system as a whole. however, I would caution those shoving you to the front to find someone they can be comfortable around because getting no time at the front isn't healthy, and short excursions become less about being and more about releasing, and that will get toxic fast, for everyone involved, including you.

I've played my fair share of Payday 2, 300 hours according to steam.

I just hope the next game will let me adjust the HUD viewmodels. That ended up giving me headaches after a while.

Working on a little writeup of the fight against the Forgotten Beast Sedast Donulaslem and its attack on the fortress of Stâkudubbul. Should be fun.

It came in the winter of 253, in the Age of Myth. A creature from the time before the world stalked forth from the shadows beneath this very Mountainhold. Created before the rivers, the mountains, or the stars above. A beast from a time long forgotten. A creature born from the nightmares between the nothingness of the god Armok’s mind.

The dwarves of Stâkudubbul had long delved deep beneath their mountain home. Yet only the first tentative steps had been taken to explore the vast caverns they discovered. They knew there were dangers to be found in such places, deep beneath the earth, far from the eyes of even their underground gods. Not even Tobul Crestedgranite, dwarven god of mountains could impart knowledge of such a being to his followers within Stâkudubbul. Perhaps had his followers enjoyed primacy in this fortress, he would have imparted a warning to the dwarves there. However, no warning was forthcoming, and the arrival of a beast told only in half-remembered legends had come to pass.

From the inky depths, a mighty roar shook the caverns, echoing up the mineshaft and filling the ears of all within the Cook of Handles, that beloved place of drink and merriment. From the deep strode the Forgotten Beast, Sedast Donulaslem! A huge stegosaurid with a distended maw, its cobalt plumage rising across its back like gigantic scales. The beast snorted in the distant scent of warm dwarf blood. Roaring in the eternal agonized hunger Armok cursed it to bear, it sought to alleviate its suffering with the bodies of dwarves passing through its ravenous gullet.
Mayor Vucar looked up from his desk, the grumblings of the dwarf citizen finally ended by the horrific sound emanating from deep below. Vucar leapt up from his shale throne, faster than any had seen the old dwarf ever move. As he bolted out of his office, Ostri Claspdate, a human woman who had long been a familiar face around the fortress, hoisted her spear confidently. Affixing her helmet to her head, a smile on her face, she strode confidently down the mineshaft to meet this challenge.

Vucar reached the barracks, panting and sweat pouring down the old dwarf’s pale face.

“Zaneg!” Vucar yelled, calling for the Captain of the Guard. A dark skinned dwarf, one who had been drilling with an exquisitely forged steel battleaxe, turned to gaze at the mayor.

“Vucar, what is it?” Zaneg Mörultarmid questioned.

“S-something in the caverns!” Vucar exclaimed. Zaneg nodded, turning to his squad. All of them, six dwarves including himself, and two trusted human warriors, had prepared for just this situation. Ever since the cavern had been discovered the previous year, all the citizens of the fortress had known this could happen. A Forgotten Beast had come at last. They all knew the tales, such creatures were malicious and cruel, and would feast upon unprepared dwarven fortresses, and take all the wealth of the dwarves for themselves. The dwarves who had worked so hard for their prosperity languishing in the belly of a monster. All their training had been for a situation just like this.

The squad marched from their barracks, through the tavern towards the mineshaft. Nodding at their friends, their families, or just passing acquaintances as they began to descend the mineshaft in good order. The lights of the tavern glistening from their solid iron armor and steel weapons, the finest the fortress had been able to provide them to this point, as they descended. This may be the last time some of them would ever come to the tavern. Atir Oltarthishis was the last to descend, turning to look at all those enjoying his tavern. He hadn’t always been a military dwarf. He raised his sword high.

“A toast for the Gears!” One patron yelled, and all raised their goblets high in cheer. Though their fates would soon be decided, all had faith in their fellow fortress dwellers to ensure they would all see another day. Atir nodded at them, and then turned to follow the squad. He knew not whether he would live, but he knew that he was willing to die defending these good people.

Pumping his dwarven legs as quick as he could, Atir followed his squad. Aban had pulled ahead of the rest, his axe gripped firmly, his shield ready. He heard it before he reached the cavern. Ostri’s battle cry was cut short. She had been in the fortress nearly a year, and had delved these caverns frequently, returning with trophies from beasts slain to make safe the caverns for her dwarven hosts. Aban knew the sound that followed her stifled warrior’s yawp. A gurgling sound of a neck crushed and severed.

It was fast. Sedast Donulaslem’s claws swiping blindingly fast. The last that Aban felt in this world was the pain as the claw sliced through his iron helmet, his head twisting backwards. His spine, snapped. Aban’s axe and shield fell from his grip, as his knees buckled and he dropped dead to his knees. Sedast Donulaslem wasted no time at all. It’s jaws clamping around Aban’s torso, is entire upper body disappeared down the unnaturally ravenous beast.

Atir had overtaken the squad, only to watch as half of Aban slid down the Sedast Donulaslem’s throat. Filled with vengeful anger, the swordmaster flew at the beast, he would strike down this beast or die!

Sedast lashed out with its rear leg, and struck Atir dead. Atir’s temporal artery ruptured from the force of the kick, his helm too no match for the strength of this ancient evil. Atir was thrown agains the wall of the cavern and collapsed, crumpled up like a sack of stones just beyond the arch of the mineshaft. Atir, the beloved tavern keeper and swordmaster, met his end.

The human mercenary Cadi Piralpude was hot on Atir’s heels, without taking even a moment to mourn the death of her comrades, she threw herself into battle against the mighty beast. With a maliceful roar she swung at the beast! Sedast Donulaslem turned fast, its jaw clamping down around Cadi’s helmet. Her roar turning to a scream as her helmet was caved in against her skull. Blood issued forth from her faceplate.

Zaneg burst forth from the shaft as Cadi’s head spewed forth like a berry from the inside of her helmet. She may not have been one of them in life, but she had died as bravely as any dwarf! She had died to protect those who dwelt above. He saw Aban’s legs, his body missing from the waist up. He saw the crumpled form of Atir against the wall splattered with his blood.

“No more.” Zaneg uttered. Three of his fighters, and a monster hunter of the fortress lay dead. “NO MORE!” Sedast Donulaslem raised its head and roared, thick sticky webs like those of a giant cave spider issued forth from its maw to ensnare its prey. It would not be denied its satiation. These dwarves would ebb its hunger, and their riches its relief.

Sedast Donulaslem struck forth a mighty blow with its claw, only to be stopped by Zaneg’s shield. His muscles screamed at the strain, but his feet remained planted staunchly rooted. The beast wheeled, lashing out with one of its rear legs, but Zaneg ducked the blow. With skillful intent, Zaneg swung his axe up at the belly of the monster, and bit deep before the creature leapt away. It spun back towards Zaneg, enraged that this tiny being had not fallen as quickly as the others and had tarnished its eternal hide.

Sedast Donulaslem bellowed and lowered its head, aiming its horns at the dwarf and charged headlong towards him, intent on impaling the creature and ending this insult. Zaneg stood his ground, shield raised, feinting an intent to block the gigantic monster. Just as Sedast Donulaslem was about to skewer the Captain of the Guard, he deftly leaped to the side, dodging the blow. Uvash Rinthimshur ran from the stairwell just in time to dodge Sedast Donulaslem’s charge himself. As the great beast arrested its movement, Uvash, to its side, swung his iron warhammer with all his strength beneath the boney crest atop the creatures head. Sedast Donulaslem wailed in pain as the hammer struck home, and continued as Zaneg’s axe bit once more, deep into its right rear leg. The black ichor of the beast’s blood oozed forth as Olin Romekeral, a shortbeard of a mere 25 years, ran to his Captain’s side and swung his warhammer with practiced skill. Where Zaneg’s axe bit, Olin’s hammer crushed.
Though it’s leg was grievously injured, the wounds suffered by Sedast Donulaslem were already beginning to knit themselves back together. It’s gaze turned to Uvash, and Sedast charged once more, this time not at the Captain, but at the foolish creature that had dared to attempt to end the battle so soon. Sedast Donulaslem ached to add this tiny creature to the pile that would soon accumulate within its belly. Uvash had trained long, and trained hard, and nimbly jumped away from the force bearing down upon him. Rolling from his shield, Uvash swung his hammer at the left rear leg of the creature and smashed into the knee.

Epxa Nomarbelrok now joined the fray. Seeing the body of her friend and fellow human of the squad Cadi dead, her dwarven comrades fallen, and still more of her allies engaging such a leviathan despite their small stature, Epxa could not abide not throwing herself into battle. Gripping the handle of her mace tightly, Expa swung with all her might as Sedast Donulaslem passed her by in its charge. The mace striking home against the beast’s stomach. Webs mixed with the hellish ichor spewing from the beast’s jaw from the blow. In its moment of pain, Uvash struck forth once more. Obliterating the beast’s left rear foot, its connective leg gave out from under it, and the beast collapsed in a heap.
They had made Sedast Donulaslem, a mighty beast of legends, forged in the void of the eons before time, fall. The task, however, was still not done. The brave defenders of Stâkudubbul had wounded this creature of nightmares, but it was not yet dead. If they did not seize this opportunity, it was still very likely they would join their comrades in death.

Zaneg stoically brought his axe down upon the beast’s tail, knowing that it’s spiked tip could easily pierce their armor should Sedast Donulaslem get the opportunity. The axe sunk deep into the ancient flesh, tendons sundered, buried down to the bone. Lashing out wildly, a spearlike claw flew just over the head of Olin. Surrounding the beast, the fortress defenders went about finishing the horrible monster.

Sedast Donulaslem was assailed by a flurry of blows. Uvash struck with his hammer on the creature’s front leg, Olin’s hammer the rear, Zaneg, intent on ending the beast, pulled his axe free of Sedast Donulaslem’s tail flesh, and whirled just in time as Sedast Donulaslem’s leg struck where Zaneg had been only a breath before. Zaneg’s axe lashed out at the creature’s heart. Though he dealt a mighty blow, the creature’s ribs deflected the axe from striking true, though flesh was sheared from the ribcage. Tattered flesh hanging loose from exposed bone.

Sedast Donulaslem roared in bestial frustration, cut short as Expa’s mace slammed into the creature’s windpipe. Olin was nearly slashed by a flailing appendage as the beast writhed in agony. That such creatures could resist being devoured, much less inflict pain upon it sent Sedast Donulaslem into a mad fury. It reared, its distended maw shooting forth like a viper to sink it’s teeth into the human’s hot flesh. Sedast Donulaslem wanted her blood to spill from its lips. The hunger was overwhelming.

Expa’s eyes widened as the jaws of death came for her. She felt tears well in her eyes. This was it. She would die here. It was an honorable death, she would die in glorious battle. Among the humans of the Bearded Confederation, there was no higher calling. They had learned much from their time living here in the far north amongst the dwarves. In this moment however, she regretted that she would never again see her son. As the teeth of this horrible monster shone in her sight, the tear fell.

Putting his considerable weight behind the blade, Zaneg slammed hard into Sedast Donulaslem’s mandible, saving Expa from her grisly end. In unison, Olin and Uvash struck their hammers into Sedast Donulaslem’s left front leg, mangling the limb utterly. In a futile effort, Sedast Donulaslem lashed out at Olin once more. Though he was spared once more, in the effort of dodging the creature, Olin was sent sprawling to the floor.

His axe free once more, Zaneg twirled with a grace uncommon among dwarves, and swung at one of the beast’s clawed feet. Hitting a joint, and with his axe finding purchase, he sliced out, leaving the appendage dangling uselessly from the leg. Not to be outdone, Olin, despite having lost his hammer during his fall, lashed out with his iron plated fist, his fist crashing into the beasts foot. Blow after blow raining down from its assailants, Sedast Donulaslem’s heart was lit aflame in anger and hatred. Hatred towards these being that had inherited a world that should have been its own.
With an eldritch screech, Sedast Donulaslem shot its webs forth from its maw at the first insolent creature it saw. Without understanding what was happening, Uvash was completely enveloped in Sedast Donulaslem’s webs, and fell incapacitated to the cavern floor. He bellowed in frustration and desperately tried to free himself. Expa, having regained her composure, sunk her mace into the creature’s belly once more, aggravating the wound she had already given the creature. The blow cause the webs to cease surging forth from Sedast Donulaslem’s mandibles.
Olin stooped to retrieve his hammer, and brought it smashing down once again upon the creature’s legs. Zaneg felt himself slip into a state of tranquil focus. His anger faded, as did his fear of this monster. They had it down, broken and bleeding. His axe rained down slashing blows into the creature’s underbelly. Again and again he sunk his axe into the beast’s scaled flesh.
Covered in the ancient blood, Olin gave into his rage. The shortbeard sunk into himself, training subsumed in fury. Soft flesh exposed from Zaneg’s axe, Olin sunk in. Tearing into Sedast Donulaslem’s flesh like a dog, pulling flesh from it with his teeth, Olin brutalized the ancient monster as though he were an animal. Olin struck, and fell back onto what all dwarves instinctively knew to do. The flesh laid out before him, Olin began to dig.
Sedast Donulaslem felt it. The creature was… attempting to violate its insides. If it had wanted to be inside, the creature should have let Sedast Donulaslem devour it! However, arrogance was soon replaced by panic and fear. Sedast Donulaslem could barely move its legs. It’s belly had been exposed and now had one of these horrible dwarves burrowing in. It tried to reach below itself, shake the horrible thing off, but it simply swung its flat iron shield against the blow and sent the limb flying weakly away, as it continued to delve inside.

Expa swung her mace at Sedast Donulaslem’s jaw. Breaking bone and stunning the monstrosity.
“Just try to eat me again, foul beast! Today you die!” Expa shouted in defiance. Sedast Donulaslem’s flesh screamed, the agony of the pain drowning out the hunger for the first time in its eons long life. Sedast Donulaslem felt its ribs being forced apart as Olin pulled the creature apart. Having opened the creature’s innards to the cavern, in a fit of anger, Olin swung his hammer into the creature’s exposed organs. Sedast Donulaslem howled in desperate agony.

“SILENCE, FOUL BEAST!” Olin roared, his arm stinging from the force of his hatred fueled blow. Black blood splashed his armor as a lung collapsed from the force of his malice. Sedast Donulaslem went limp.

Olin roared in triumph, before feeling a strong hand grip his breastplate and pull him out from his fleshy burrow. Olin began to roar in defiance before being snapped back to his sense at the sound of his Captain’s forceful command.

“Cease this, Olin! You are a dwarf, not a beast!” Zaneg ordered. Panting, his vision red from adrenaline, Olin’s training once more took hold, and a calm began to creep into the edge of his vision. Zaneg pointed to the webbed form of Uvash. “Get him free, Olin. Expa, help Olin.”

As the two went about carrying out Zaneg’s orders. He turned to the defeated creature. It’s breathing was labored, it could no longer move under its own power, or so he had thought. In his horror, the grievous wounds that they had inflicted upon the beast had already begun closing. He saw awareness flash back into Sedast Donulaslem’s eyes, and it reared. With eternity’s cruelty behind its gaze, Sedast Donulaslem’s webs came forth to ensnare prey once more.

Instinct.
Training.
Duty.

The captain dodged beneath the webs and surged; cruelty was replaced with primordial fear as Zaneg Mörultarmid swung his battle axe up into the creature’s neck. Striking, ascending through ancient flesh, through calcified bone, and back to fungal cavern air, following through and clanging his axe against the ancient stone floor. Where only moments ago the cavern was filled with the deafening roar of a monster from before time itself, all was silent save for the ringing of Zaneg’s axe blade followed moments later with the wet splat of Sedast Donulaslem’s severed head falling from its body to the ground.

Olim, Expa, and even Uvash through a hole torn in the webs, stood, and silently gazed at their captain, and the beheaded corpse of the Forgotten Beast Sedast Donulaslem behind him. Olim raised his hammer in salute, and broke the silence.

“AKUR AKIR AKAM!”

I started playing Star Trek: Fleet Command about a month ago.  The most obvious downside is that it has several pay-to-win mechanics.  The less obvious upside is that if you're patient and know what to expect as you progress, you can grind it out for free without too much difficulty.  I wouldn't be so inclined to play it, but my dad's super active in it, so it's the one game we can play together.

I had three female passengers.  A girl threw up out my window and onto the side of my car.  I gave them the option of washing it off themselves to avoid a cleaning fee.  Girl #1 (the one who threw up) got out at her stop and left.  Girl #2 said she didn't think Girl #1 got anything on the car.  At her stop, she got out and said there was nothing on the car.  Girl #3 said that there was nothing on the car since Girl #2 said there wasn't anything on it, despite me being able to see it in the mirror all over the car.  She insisted she was going to take pictures of the car to prove there was nothing on it.  At the stop for Girl #3, we both got out.  She took one look at it, huffed, and walked away.  None of them bothered to clean it, opting instead to lie about something immediately and easily disprovable.  and so they got stuck with the cleaning fee.

It does. I mean I get it, staying a bit fluffier is probably the better option. A lot of people are just creeps who can't deal with more adult topics without becoming super creepy.

Honestly I don't trust the average Twitch streamer to have any level of maturity either. This is a good group but they're also a group of creatives first and Twitch streamers second. I've watched a few. That's one of the reasons I hesitate to just throw an idea for a Battletech RPG campaign out into the ether. Because without some strict rules I don't think I could trust randoms. Especially with something like Battletech, I don't know how much I can trust random players to understand how to keep the bigotry in-universe and either not get super fucking triggered or just using it as a cover for their IRL bigotry.

Unfortunately so, but these do get uploaded to YouTube as well, and seem to do okay.

Honestly this is one of the few things I watch on Twitch, at least when I have the time to tune in and don't have to sleep. I'll occasionally watch smaller streamers with chats that aren't going by at a mile a minute. Or I'll tune into WBPL76 which unlike most Twitch channels is a community run stream with different people taking up blocks of time like a pirate radio station.

There's a lot of hatred and bad blood between factions in Battletech. In no small part because nukes have flown more than once and people tend to not want to forgive stuff like that. And a lot of other war crimes besides.

I like it! It's kind of the idea of a variety stream taken to its logical conclusion, and different people will stream different things. I think there's someone playing Mass Effect on it right now, but I know they also do a cooking show sometimes as an example.

I started a fresh Dwarf Fortress world with a climate more in my preference. A cold world, viscous and cruel. In the Plane of Oracles, one Dwarven civilization The Pillar of Throwers have sponsored an expedition out of the world's equatorial, temperate region into the frosty north. Snow Goblins, originating from the southern ice wastes are encroaching on the southern tip of their home mountain range.

In the early spring of 250, an expiditionary group known as the Armory of Mountains struck forth with a mandate as decreed by the 3rd High Monarch of the Pillar of Throwers, Queen Endok Uremmörul. To create a new fortress from which to create, and supply, the rest of the Pillar with weapons and arms in preparation for the inevitable attack from the goblin menace.

Kol Ledokil's Report, Entry #1:

As required from my position as leader of the Armory of Mountains, the site government of Iceanvil, I am reporting on our progress. The first year has gone relatively smoothly for the new fort. As per our mandate, we have begun to establish habitation and industry in this far northern mountain range. I am pleased to report, my Queen, that we have struck rich veins of iron, just as the scouts had reported. This, along with deposits of coal, has allowed us to begin stockpiling iron. This, along with the truly staggering amount of limestone that makes the core of this mountain shall allow us to begin production of steel within the year. Twenty-one of the thirty assigned dwarves of our expedition survived the journey here. Including the assigned Ugithrigòth, the necromancer. Despite my protests of such a being being in our fort as I have expressed many times before.

I hope this letter, and our first shipment of iron for the cause, finds you well.

Your humble servant, Kol Ledokil.

The Armory of Mountains expedition has safely established Iceanvil in the far northwestern mountain range, known as the Tooth of Vipers. To reach this far off place, the dwarves of The Pillar of Throwers and the elven "civilization" known as The Courteous Talons have come to a tense, if agreeable arrangement. In their shared interest against the menace to all known as the Snow Goblins, they will allow dwarves to pass through the Jungle of Slayers on their way between locations.

The Dwarves who now reside in Iceanvil, however, do not trust this tenative peace, and will be making preparations to survive on their own should those perfidious dendrophiles decide to renege on their side of the agreement, as they are known to do. Fear does not make for strong friendships. To this end, the dwarves have voted that should an elf caravan approach the fortress, no refined metal shall be traded with them. No, the products of dwarven industry are for the dwarves to know, and share with our erstwhile allies, the humans of The Frilly Realms.

To the end of self-sufficiency, the hardy dwarves of Iceanvil came prepared. With a small amount of turkeys, the dwarves have already established a small breeding population. These turkeys will be invaluable both for their meat, and for their succulent eggs. They along with several other useful animals have been spirited underground into the caverns, where they are safe from a persistent thread from the surrounding untamed wilds. Giant eagles, which can be seen casting their shadows wide over their hunting grounds. While no incidents have occurred thus far, the dwarves are few in number, and everyone is essential to establish the fortress in preparation for the incoming settlers.

pagespeed iswas a way to cache web data for rapid recall upon access.  using it, you cancould drop website page generation times to near zero.  but google, in its infinite wisdom, decided that the out of the box implementation wasn't uniquely customizable enough, and scrapped the whole thing, even though it worked fantastically for use cases like mine.
Python is essentially uniform across platforms.  once you learn it, you can apply it to any distribution as needed, assuming same version and libraries.

Medicare/Medicade cover 100 days in a nursing home, the first 20 are fully covered, the next 80 may have up to $200 a day co-pay. After those 100 days the coverage ends and you're on the unbelievably steep hook for paying. Unfortunately if you already have a dementia diagnosis, Long-Term care insurance may be unavailable to you. Maybe you can get it if it's early, but if I recall your situation correctly I don't think that's the case.

I would recommend getting a guardianship over your family member if you're going to be the primary care giver. Co-guardian with the parent who still has their faculties will also make it easier if possible.

Being a guardian makes future decision making processes easier on a bureaucratic level. Going in for a surgery is dangerous with folks with dementia because it can advance the disease because of the anesthesia. When mom broke her hip I had to make the call to do the surgery to try and fix her even though there was even a good chance she'd die on the operating table. Folks with dementia live kind of moment to moment at the end.

And this is kind of a weird one, but it paid dividends for me. Get a gym membership. A gym is a good place to blow off steam and stress that comes from taking care of the person with dementia, and if they ever end up unable to walk, it makes it easier to move them from bed to chair, etc.

> Is that a state-by-state thing?
I believe it's a federal thing.

>state thing?  Is that different for an elderly person who ends up in a nursing home but doesn't have dementia?
I think it's all people regardless of issue. And it's an up-to co-pay. The nursing home I had mom in wasn't that much, thank God. Medicare does fully cover hospice though.

>  I thought the whole point of Medicade is that the person is basically unable to pay it anyway?
I think so, but they'll take assets from the person anyway. Vehicles, property, etc. can be liquidated to pay. Though if something like the home is liquidated there should be a clause that the elderly person can still reside there until they pass. It's gone in terms of inheritance though. I happened to dodge that bullet, thank God.

Raindrops, I didn't mean to come off so dry. I really wish your friend could have her own body. But in this case, we can't just come to an easy agreement. And unfortunately removing me is one of the smartest things you could do. I really hope you succeed in life, and farewell.

Deep down, I really want to see everyone here in this board succeed. The current circumstances may not be so ideal for you guys, but I have faith in your God-given abilities as humans.

That was a good nap.
I'll chill in this board for a while, guys.
Also, some goober thinks they can dox adequately. I'd find it amusing if it wasn't so annoying.
Feel free to AMA.
A hot shower should rejuvenate me here shortly..

I saw. I've been trying to figure out if they're actually ban evading or not. If they are it's from fucking years ago. I've been busy with IRL things though so I haven't had much time to just comb through shit.

Though on a second look another mod figured it out I guess.

As for the hug you're aware I'm not exactly physically affectionate, virtually or otherwise.

Awh, but you make her feel all warm and tingly...
I saw the opportunity to make that statement, sorry.
