>>14847I've kind of given up. Americans are so extremist and blind when it comes to capitalism that we hate anything whatsoever that will hurt any big businesses. In the U.S., coming out in support of labor union strikes or against employee sexual harassment by managers... really anything that's viewed as "socialist", "Marxist", and/or "communist" gets you destroyed in our political system.
If Elon Musk and Donald Trump's parallel success proves anything, it's that there's nobody Americans as a whole hate more than working class poor people. We refuse to let them have sick leave even when they're doing terribly. We refuse to let them take care of their infant children. We refuse to stop their wages from being stolen by overtime related shenanigans. And it goes on and on. Americans treat working class poor people with the same bigoted disdain that the Roman Empire treated barbarian peasants.
We're not yet an oligarchy in which the wealthy just rule over everybody else as god-like barons, viscounts, lords, etc like the old Chinese or Russian monarchies. Not yet. We're getting there.
