rules
location: somewhere in equestria near ponyville, canterlot, and fluttershy's cottage

time period: sometime around season 4 or 5 but not too strict. twilight sparkle may or may not be a princess. season 9 is not allowed at all since i haven't watched it and i heard it's very bad, anyway. think mostly of seasons 1, 2, parts of 3, 4, and the good episodes from 5

style: primarily style of seasons 1 & 2, although season 4 is also ok (i.e.: pinkie apple pie). characters must act like they would in the show given a similar situation

characters: characters must be from the show & your main character must be a pony, but you can temporarily occasionally play side characters from the show or oc's as long as they are not a mary sue and their colors don't hurt everypony's eyes

scenario: cannot be something that would not happen in the/be something that probably wouldn't happen behind the scenes in the show see first post in thread. yes, that is the entire scenario for now

images: cannot be images from other tv shows/anime. cannot be memes. ponies or scenes from the show, artwork, and images to establish setting are fine. helpful sites: derpibooru.org

formatting: scene descriptions should be in bracket + parenthesis format ([( )]), dialogue should be in quotation marks (" "), actions should be in asterisks (* *) or italicized, and out-of-character chat should be in brackets ([ ])

the structure of a reply should be an (optional) scene description, then an action and/or dialogue, followed by (optional) bracketed out-of-character chat. example:

Minty
[(The sun is rising from the East, while there is a forest to the north. The forest is filled with plentiful myriad plants and trees. There are some prominently situated berry bushes nearby)]
*gently trots over to the edge of the forest*
I notice the berries. Slyly looking around to see if anypony is looking, I playfully nom them.
[I don't see anypony around]

in this example, the player added to the building of the world, performed an action, explained what they did, and finally in out-of-character chat explained what their character was actually perceiving to avoid confusion about if they noticed anypony nearby when they looked around

permissions:
no rules on how to take turns building the world but it should be complementary with each other and in accordance with the previous rules. while players can choose setting, they can't do anything to advance the scenario outside of their own character(s) dialogue, actions, and interactions with the setting.
examples:

good reply:
Pinkie Pie
--picture of pinkie pie from the show when she asked "watcha doin'?" in Pinkie Apple Pie--
[(The bush is rather dense, concealing what may be inside it. The curvature of a metal object may also be vaguely poking out from inside another adjacent bush)]
*pops out of the bush*
"Watcha doin'?"
[I didn't notice you eating the berries]

in this example, the player built on the scene in a constructive way, including adding a mysterious object that other characters may or may not notice. they also clarified in out-of-character chat that they didn't see Minty eating the berries, which Minty may or may not suspect is the case

bad reply:
Pinkie Pie
--picture of peter griffin--
[(The bush is actually not a bush at all but a robot)]
*pops out of robot-suit*
"Get the buck off my lawn!"
[The berries were also actually a special type of poison joke berry that look like regular berries]

in this example, the player drastically changed the scene, as Minty would have almost certainly noticed the bush was a robot before walking up to it. There are also no robots in MLP:FiM in the timeframe mentioned in the previous rules. Next, Pinkie Pie said something that she would have almost certainly never have said in the show (refer to scenario). finally, the player would not have had the authority to make the berries poisoned because the berries were created by the previous player and that would advance the scenario in a way that only op would be allowed to do. (and even though the berries had a reason to look like regular berries, the player still can't change their implicit attributes without consent from the player who first added the berries to the scene.)

permissions: only op can change facets of other players' scenario creations in order to help move the plot along. op can also delete/modify (retcon) scenarios, dialogue, etc. in order to make them consistent with the rules and overarching story. to say something to op that a player doesn't want other ponies to know, use the text here tag. other players shouldn't look under spoiler tags. if a player wants to advance the scenario in this way without op, they can just ask for the players' who created the sceanrio's (in the above example -- the berries) permission. this type of scenario change cannot be overridden by op unless it is a violation of the previous rules about time period, style, characters, scenario, or images.

if a player thinks a response isn't consistent with the rules, they can request a review. sometimes responses will be changed even if a review is not requested depending on how badly they appear to violate the rules

tl;dr: everypony equal. everypony loved.

[(A reformed changling who always takes on the form of a six-legged pegasus trots by. Even well after the six chosen guardians of the elements had brought their strange insect-like society to mingle with the modern world, this orange mare still could hardly get enough of the fresh air and bright colors of the forests. She didnt really know where she was going this time; deciding to take a new route today.)]

*shyly notices the sunny orange mare, perhaps even a bit too early for customary social interaction*
"O-oh... um, hello there," I say almost to myself, silently hoping you don't notice me and just pass on by -- having essentially provided the customary social interaction, i notice you seem to be clearly too busy to bother with a shy pony such as myself. I watch both cautiously and introspectively, superficially hopeful that you are too busy to pay me any mind and just pass on by. pretending to be distracted by something on the ground, i try to act like i imagine rainbow dash might act as i anxiously wait for the sound of your hoofsteps to momentarily get louder and then fade into the distance

*The strange mare's ear twitches and she glances to where such a sweet sounding voice came from, to then see the unmistakable sight of Fluttershy which causes her to stop dead in her tracks and let out a happy [squee] sound, not unlike she herself did. She gasps.*

"EEE! Ha-"

*She stops herself and quiets right down, approaching slowly.*

[(Some of the shyer animals skitter, hop, or waddle away (taking cover behind rocks, trees, or bushes), watching from a distance. Only a curious little mouse remains, watching the interaction from behind Fluttershy's hindhoof -- ready to retreat behind her tail if need be)]

*[am using brackets to explain in more detail my characters' motives -- see note at bottom for more info]

*briefly looks concernedly around at my animal friends to make sure they're ok before standing up, my mane falling over part of my face*

I glance in your direction just long enough to register your expression [to ready myself for how to proceed with the interaction. The preparation causes me to tense up ever-so-slightly. "...just act like Rainbow Dash," I think to myself].

I look down at the ground, finding a pleasant rock to look at, [making up a story in my head about what I'm doing out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by animal-friends, hoping you'll think I'm busy doing some obscure weather-related activity]. To a random, unobservant pony I would seem to be just staring at the ground.

After seeing your change in demeanor and hearing your gentle voice, however, I relax a little -- while remaining somewhat on guard, knowing how loud you can be [...and believing you are probably usually like that, I am also somewhat suspicious of your intentions, due also in part to the sudden change in demeanor - even though I do appreciate the gesture]. "...does this pony know me?" I wonder to myself.

All this rumination makes it difficult to reply (and also to notice anything different about your form, having been previously too absorbed in the blissful oneness of warm animal-friend hugs to pay any mind and only glanced at you since). After the moment has passed and I realize I haven't said anything, I pretend to be concentrating on the rock as a potential excuse. I take care, however, to not make it too, too obvious so that I will have plausible deniability in case you just think it's weird. [As you approach, I begin to regret that I let myself get so distracted by my sweet animal friends so as to have done something so bold as to have said "hi" first. "You're such a loudmouth, Fluttershy," I chastise myself in my mind.]

*[Your character might not notice some of the stuff I write, so stuff in "[]'s" can maybe also be things that happen but you probably won't notice -- if that makes things clearer (or I can not do that if it makes it harder to read). Stuff not in brackets, however, wouldn't necessarily be stuff you do notice, of course. I also forgot to mention in the post about rules that writing in first-person is preferred to make the rp more engaging if you don't mind - although not a requirement or anything if you're more comfortable with writing in third-person.]

(I dont know this mare personally, but I have heard enough to know that I am on the dead-opposite of the social spectrum. I love being around people and have a nearly nonexistent personal bubble. My limbs were shapeshifted for snuggles, after all!)

*I approach a little more, then stop a good couple of meters away and crouch. I speak with the same gentleness*

"Heeeey, are you Fluttershy?"

*[The compounded bracket formatting is a bit hard to read but I think I get it. Im not sure if the [()] bracketing might also cover character thoughts or if ** is sufficient - but its then hard to tell what is OOC and character thoughts. I've always just used greentext for any narration. otomatapias and diegetic actions in black with the character's speech also in quotations. Spoiler text for all OOC things. I am admittedly more comfortable writing in third person but I can give first person a shot as I see how it helps the formatting.]
