Asexuals are often the target of corrective rape for similar reasons lesbians are. And often the target of social ostracization in some communities (but not all of course), for refusing to have kids. The former is especially a problem for asexual women whom straight men find highly attractive and entitled too. The later is more common in certain religious communities and among mote conservative families. Like a lot of these LGBTQ identities, the issues ultimately boil down to issues female bodily autonomy vs authoritarian patriarchy
Also, from my direct experience in the bay area, the flag is also (mostly) used in queer social spaces as a way of indicating one is only interested in romance and to signal to others to not bother with anything else.
