>>1198264I have said it before but the internet from around 2004 to about 2009 or maybe 2010 at a push felt more.. Real? Honest? Like, it was just a bunch of people having fun. Countless different sites, forums, places to just post stupid shit and have fun.
Nowadays the internet just feels so bland, boring, regulated and.. Sterile I guess. Hard to describe but I think you get what I mean. Nevermind that it often feels so censored and restricted. Sure back in the early to mid 2000s it was a bit of a wild west but that's a part of what made it all feel fun. It had an edge.
I mean I'm speaking as someone in my mid 30s but like, I do remember those days well and maybe it was just as we were all much younger and more naive and optimistic then but it really did feel like a better place

>>1198265agree. everything has been taken over by corporate interests, it seems -- never thought that would happen like it has. it's as though the real world moved onto the internet and there's nowhere left for internet people to go -- except, idunno, virtual reality? yet facebook already owns one of the big VR platforms.... and im not sure who owns the other ones or if they would be a suitable alternative to the internet
