thoughts on the first bit of the story: good intro up to "she raised her voice...," where i would show her raising her voice moment by moment and narrowing her eyes moment by moment rather than say that's what she was doing

would describe the rear rather than just call it "incredible," or describe why he thinks it's incredible

wondering why he thought the beverage would be perfectly fit for her after having previously not tried to stop himself from admiring her rear

wondering why the man would have revealed all of that information -- seems like something you would normally want to keep secret

i would show through dialogue why the gap between their worldviews resembled a canyon instead of saying it

maybe im just not paying close attention or don't normally read stories like this, but i can't seem to figure out what their formal relationship is (like why they are even talking together or what they are doing at this point in the story) -- reread it - it's an airport waiting room, it seems -- would spend more time describing where they were or how they got there/maybe what they each might be feeling or think the other is feeling

when he's trying to figure out about the accent, i would describe the accents of the different countries so that the reader knows what he's talking about or why he thinks she might have that accent

But did you know: https://deadline.com/2024/10/house-of-the-dead-movie-paul-w-s-anderson-sega-game-1236163599/

And, unlike the first film, it has nothing to do with Uwe Boll!

There is also a Streets of Rage movie on the way also.

https://deadline.com/2022/04/streets-of-rage-film-adaptation-john-wick-creator-derek-kolstad-1235004975/

But, this news has been announced for a while and there hasn't been any fresh news of THotD or SoR since.

But Paul W.S. Anderson is practically my ideal choice for a THotD film. I know his Resident Evil films have been hit-and-miss, but I believe the half of the series he directed, especially Retributed, carried more of the spirit of THotD than RE.

Either way, '80s was peak cinema back then.

So was '90s cinema, but it was hit or miss. More hits than now, at least.

There are many 80s movies that I like, Goonies, War Games, Fright Night... that kind of stuff. I really disliked the fantasy movies though. Even though I love the genre, I think those from the 80s were pretty bad.

There was never an era when it was really good. It was usually just silly nonsense.

IMO only the Lord of the Rings trilogy was truly outstanding.

Princess Pride was OK, so was the Robin of Sherwood series from 84.

Fantasy films is a difficult genre to get right.

I mean, fantasy in itself is popular, but fantasy movies rarely work.

The reason why I like Conan the Barbarian is because it's less traditional fantasy and more set in older, savage times than just generic magic, elves and dwarves.

I remember I was always looking forward to fantasy movies. They had swords and knights and stuff... but usually the stories were so bad that I just got bored halfway through or simply couldn't follow what was going on at some point.

In the end the books were much better than the movie. Like Willow, loved the movie book, the movie itself really was meh. Or Neverending Story. Awesome book, shite movie.

And from the barbarian movies I only like Red Sonja. At least it didn't take itself so damn serious.

Anyway, Excalibur from 1981 was very good.

Quality aside, I do miss the shamelessness of some 80ies Fantasy Movies like Legend, though.

When there was no need to justify yourself, or stick solely to "it's all brown and grey and is basically just medieval England with MAYBE one dragon or troll at one point in the final act and maybe one guy who sees a vision once". When everything wasn't afraid to either just be LotR or D&D.

Krull, Legend, all those movies, they'd jsut be like "Fuck you, here's a scene where a bunch of black horses on fire ride across the night skies and a wizard has to step through a crystal spider cave and you're gonna shut up and accept this is how this world we made works instead of smugly crossing your arms and demanding an explanation".

The Fantasy element of Fantasy has been almost missing for so damn long. I really want to see it return.

Back when movies were made to entertain or for a writer or producer to purely get their story out. Before Hollywood became stagnant and about ticking boxes, using filters or blurring out the background.
Granted, doesn't mean movies like how they make them are no longer produced, but they don't have big promotions as Hollywood hitters.

For example, I love Conan the Barbarian not just for its honest savagery, but for its beautiful cinematography it had for it's time. It didn't try to be dark and gritty because the movie supported itself on its own merits of drama, adventure and revenge.

But the 2017 movie was just awful. It was trying too hard to live up to the reputation and was just dark and gritty.

Myeah, it's my birthday tomorrow.
A lot of the distress actually came from that. I was feeling bad about my the way my parents still have to chip in for a lot of that (I usually just have my birthday by inviting a few friends and using their terrace), with me only being able to pay for an equal third of the shopping for it. They only live off of 1½ income in the first place, and are of course affected just as much as everyone else by the price of everything increasing.

Reminded me how much I feel like a leech who just lives off of anyone else's generosity, even at 36 when you'd think I could do a damn thing on my own, without ever being able to do anything nice back  and just invited a whoooole lot of bad thoughts back about how useless that makes me feel in general.

Been a while since I had a break like that.

the character growth of susie is definitely a very important center point, but the cogs are definitely moving to show us more of ralsei in upcoming chapters, and especially Kris and their soul. it is one of the greatest strengths of video games to give us a traditional hero to follow like Susie, and then the player character interacting with the world and recontextualizing the story in their interactions, such as with Kris and the Soul.

I don't know for sure. There's some doom science regarding climate stuff going around.

The way I understood it, the Gulf Stream is the reason why Europe has relatively warm winters, as it ensures a constant supply of warm water from the tropic regions. A warm sea has a lot of impact on the temperatures on a bordering landmass.

If the Gulf Stream is halted, that supply of warm water ends and the resulting cold sea brings very harsh winters.

Why would it stop? Projections regarding melting icecaps deregulating the flow of seawater around the earth.

that might be tricky, cause i'm role playing as Mei (my character shown here) who is very much not aggressive towards anyone, and half the time doesn't even know where she's at; so i get the feeling that Lae'zel will probably rip her hair out around me

Chinese, Indian, Tai, Turkish and two chippies and a few cafés. I'm not really into spicy food so that leaves Tai and Indian out.
