It's called a vent, man.

I mean, obviously it's not to be compared to the kind of systematic hatred faced here, but I spent my time as a phone salesman doodling little people getting murdered in horrible ways on post-it notes whenever people started hurtling absolutely horrific verbal abuse at me - which was approximately every third phone call.

But sometimes, you just need to blow off some steam, call an asshole an asshole and imagining them getting some comeuppance.

Now amplify that with groups of people who vehemently, and often violently, argue against your rights.

I can get the idea of a vent, sure. I just think posting it around regularly is if anything going to encourage those groups.
Certainly the reaction I've seen to such things would suggest it.
Ends up being framed as an 'example' or 'proof' of mental illness, making it all the easier to dismiss things out of hat.
Which, if it were just tied to the individual who posted it, wouldn't be an issue. But these things're inevitable extrapolated to the whole of trans people, and so everyone gets the same dismissal as 'crazy'...

So you should sit around, be quiet and just take absolutely all abuse ever hurtled your way without ever talking back in the slightest, lest you be judged for it?

Sounds like my every day in school. Get psychologically tortured eight hours a day by people who had decided I was their favorite target, watch them get absolutely no comeuppance, then get instantly punished for "not being the better man" if I as much as muttered a single "asshole" at one given time.

Compliance and silence doesn't make people this stop anything, and constantly having a finger wagged in your face for daring to voice displeasure with people being cruel to you does nothing but cause stressful repression that eventually explodes.

>So you should sit around, be quiet and just take absolutely all abuse ever hurtled your way without ever talking back in the slightest, lest you be judged for it?
Certainly not.
There's obvious differences between sitting around doing nothing and telling someone you want to bash their head in.

And really, it's not so much about the judgement to YOU, but to the whole of trans folk.
The problem is that this shit gets launched to everyone within that.
Gets spread around, and suddenly, it's the common view of how 'they' act.

It's the same ordeal as the Hogwarts Legacy fiasco.
That didn't "stop" anything either. Just made people look on the trans community with yet more ire.

YOu know as well as anyone that hateful groups will latch onto literally anything, or blatantly make nonsense up if they can find nothing.
It doesn't matter if every single person of every single marginalized group suddenly folded their hands and simply stood around making doe eyes all day and never protested in any way.

Going around hushing people for the extremely human act of letting out some hot air about the people who actively want to make their lives miserable does not solve anything, does not make anyone feel better, and will not change the minds of hateful people who were going to hate them regardless of a handful of vent posts online.

So maybe just let people breathe.

this smells of bad faith arguments

"if you make a meme that shows a violent act against transphobes, then you are no different than people who show violence against trans or anyone else"

a nice easy way to shut people up you don't like, and to justify continue doing what you are doing

"oh if they didn't freak out over a video game using the IP of an openly transphobic person, people would like trans people more"

yes, it's our fault that she fucking sucks, and not at all the fact that she's openly advocating transphobic policies and inciting anger against others that lead to political harm against trans folk

in an ideal world, nobody would be angry at anyone for anything; but we aint in one; and if you get butthurt over a silly meme because it uses violence in a meme to express frustration, then perhaps its on you to learn how to read the room

> I just also know that it takes a little bit more for the average person than one or two surface-level "mean posts" online to be indoctrinated into the hatecult,
I would say there's distinction between 'hatecult' and agreeing with or at least starting to side with the hatecult. But I know what you mean, all the same.

Trouble is that these aren't just one or two meanposts. This is a very common meme. It's something that gets spread around fairly regularly, and while I'd say that's likely spread further by bad actors in that hatecult, at the end of the day it's still something regular folk on the fence will see, and think "Oh that's what trans folk are like".

>and that poo-poo-ing someone on a pony imageboard that like two dozen people MIGHT occasionally post on with the argument that "being frustratedjust makes people dislike everyone like you more on a big picture scale that has nothing to do with this little closed off space" is just about the least constructive thing imaginable.
This place is hardly closed off, but, even so, the issue is less individually with Andrea's post, and more the commonality of that meme in general where people post it around.
Though you might be right that it isn't 'constructive' considering the minute size of this place.
Albeit, I don't think I'd have any greater constructivity elsewhere. Yelling at large numbers on Twitter does nothing, and reddit'll just downvote or ban you immediately. Those places only serve to vent frustrations into the aether, which, then again, I suppose is what is being done here in part.

On the subject there, I will at least take this moment to thank you for actually engaging with what I've said.
We may well disagree, but I do appreciate that you've actually took the time to respond in good faith.
It's unfortunate that is not the standard in the world any more.

 No.1194917

>>1194915
If your issue is with the commonality and not specific instances, then you have to also be able to understand how it comes across when you single in on one specific statement and start equating it to a bigger problem it.

It'd be like cussing me out for throwing away one piece of pizza crust with the "starving kids in Africa" argument.

You're may be right in theory, but in practice you're still just yelling at whoever happens to be standing the closest to you about a problem they can't solve by behaving in whatever way you consider ideal in that second.

As for "regular people on the fence", you're counting on people you yourself describe as "Not chronically online" to adapt to that mindset the instant they see one such argument from someone else.

There's no question that the world is scary and people can be influenced in awful ways by little things. None of that has been argued against. But if everyone "on the fence" was so easily swayed that "this handful of screenshots and a few articles is clearly proof the entire group is insane" they were probably not gonna be on the other side anyway.

That makes it sound like YOU are the one sorting the entirety of humanity in groups of "Trans Allies" and "One light sneeze away from putting on a red hat".

For some reason, Edit Post like NEVER works for me. I just get "wrong password" no matter what I do. Oh well.

>It'd be like cussing me out for throwing away one piece of pizza crust with the "starving kids in Africa" argument.
The two aren't related at all.
I would suggest the better comparison would be complaining about rivers of trash, when someone throws a bottle in their own back yard.
Technically related, but the back yard bottle is hardly going to get itself to the river.

Though I'd disagree with the framing besides, as I don't think I was cussing Andrea out, or otherwise yelling at them. I kept it fairly light for that reason, since I rather specifically DIDN'T want it to come across like that.

>the instant they see one such argument from someone else.
Not one; But one adds to a pile.
I don't expect them to flip because they saw one singular meme.
I expect it to worm its way into their baseline for "that's what they're like" after constant examples.

> But if everyone "on the fence" was so easily swayed that "this handful of screenshots and a few articles is clearly proof the entire group is insane" they were probably not gonna be on the other side anyway.
I don't know about that.
I think the average person doesn't think very deeply on things, and so some pile of things like this, or what happened with the whole Hogwarts Legacy fiasco, pull them far more than real argumentation, honestly.
But I will grant I do not put much stock into the common man's intelligence.

>"One light sneeze away from putting on a red hat".
I don't think it's a light sneeze.
I think it's another grain of sand that'll turn into a pile, eventually.

"The straw that broke the camel's back" isn't meant to depict a singular straw that happened to be too much.
It's one single straw among many straws, which in a whole, add the weight beyond the camel.

Semantics. The "one minor infraction is equal to adding the bigger problem" point is the same in both your example and mine. We're making the same argument. That's a pointless distinction.

And then you doubled down when told "They're just venting." How is that light?

You're still blaming the individual grains instead of thinking about where the hell all that sand is being dumped from and what can be done to either plug the whole or reduce the flow, all assuming the worst of everybody who happesn to be near it

Constantly bringing up the same specific instance when you claim to be arguing about something wider than that doesn't help either.

I am not arguing against appealing to a better approach. I am talking about maybe picking your battles and allowing people to be remotely human about their feelings.

It's clear.

Though it's also pretty clear that this is just gonna circle around for a while and get more and more into fairly pointless nitty gritty , so I think I am pretty much done.

I am definitely also a bit guilty of maybe seeing a bit more malice than is actually there. I've just had my own experiences with essentially being told to "be quiet and be better" when treated unfairly, so that's something *I* tend to not react well to.

hey, i see what you are doing, and i'm glad you are making a genuine case to argue; and i see you. perhaps i'm a little at fault for being so quick to jump the gun at the "bad faith" thing, but too often do i see somebody try to use the guise of being civil and rational as a guise for transphobia/homophobia, or at the very least to be trollish; so i just didn't want to give this person the inch they were looking for

>And then you doubled down when told "They're just venting." How is that light?
I have honestly no idea what you mean, like, at all.
Why would 'doubling down', in this case meaning just continuing to say what you already said, be any different?
I certainly would consider it still quite light.

>You're still blaming the individual grains instead of thinking about where the hell all that sand is being dumped from
I don't think you're understanding what I meant with the idiom.
One grain of sand makes a part of a pile.
A small part, sure, but it still adds to the pile.

>and what can be done to either plug the whole or reduce the flow,
Isn't that rather clearly why I'm advocating against such content?
To reduce the flow?

>Constantly bringing up the same specific instance when you claim to be arguing about something wider than that doesn't help either.
It's probably the worst event for the common view of trans folk yet. Why wouldn't I bring it up?
You had a bunch of streamers get harassed because they were playing a transphobic game.
It made folk who were otherwise uninterested and uninvolved suddenly have it shoved in their face in the most negative way possible.
I'm not bringing it up as though it's one single thing done by one single person.
I'm bringing it up as a prime example of how these things add up, quickly, and cause an absolute nightmare.

>allowing people to be remotely human about their feelings.
To be quite honest, I don't think this type of thing is remotely common enough to warrant this level of generalization.
The brain does things, sure, but that typically stays in the brain. And likewise, I don't think publicly posting stuff like that'd fall into any kind of commonality.
Frankly, it's why people react the way that they do to it. If it was so common, nobody'd care.

>>1194925
I'm not trying to make the argument of "be better".
I'm a rather strong proponent of an eye for an eye, in fact.
Though that too falls into the trouble of these memes...
If it was a FAFO type fare of "Oh you want to try to kill me? Get blasted" or some such, wouldn't be an issue.
But that's not commonly what these memes entail.

it's referring to an anti-slavery novel called "Uncle Tom's Cabin" where Tom, an enslaved black man, struggles with his morality in the story, and ends up selling out other escaping black people to white slave owners.  Uncle Tom has become a term in the black community for "an african american who sides with the white majority at the expense of black american's rights and freedom" in various ways

while it definitely isn't one to one comparison, the point i'm making is that "a transphobic gay" is somebody who sides with homobophobic and transphobic people to prove that they are "one of the good ones" and effectively are no better than those who seek to oppress the queer community, and ironically will be next to the chopping block

in this context, it should be abundantly clear why they are not worth entertaining their viewpoints, much like anyone who supports any level of transphobic or homophobic views and stances

Look anon, memes buzzing around in transgender spaces in the internet about ironic cartoon violence against transphobes on the internet are irrelevant in regards to public perception of trans people by normies given that normies can be easily swayed by bullshit transphobes just pull out their asses about transgender people.
