- Developing a genuine phobia/distrust of ally things magic to the point of being personally at odds with a party member over it
- Rescue a young girl from slavery and becoming her unofficial adoptive father despite his goal really being finding somewhere else to put her
- Win a court case after being swindled out of money by a bunch of trappers he risked his life to help
- Debate a warlord into ceasing his hostile takeover of a city and instead joining forces with the revelliousnforces within it so he didn't have to attack innocents
But the last two sessions, it culminated in him starting a physical confrontation with a tribes chief we'd spent half the campaign looking for cause ehe behaved suspiciously - a conflict the party joined him in.
Then, once differences were hashed out, he (and one other party member) ended up having to accept participation in gladiator matches against said tribes best warriors in order to restore the insulted chief's honor and prove our worth as Equal even though we'd opposed the chief's rule.
I managed to WIN my duel with some real crazy moves (including standing on horseback, back flopping over a sword strike, landing back on the horse and throwing a knife at my opponent in the same move)... But the other guy didn't.
He ended up facing his death penalty with dignity, fully accepting the consequences of what had been going on, and we ended up role-playing a whole actual beheading ceremony and proper burial arrangements.
It all actually ended with our party splitting over it for various reasons - with mine pulling a "a link away in the night" move after ensuring the kid I more or less adopted had a new family in the tribe to stay with, all due to guilt over my hotheadedness getting a party member beheaded.
All of it felt perfectly organic and was NOT planned ahead of time. Everyone just played their characters well and reacted differently to an upsetting outcome to an impossible situation.
It's hard to explain, but it just felt like the natural conclusion, if not the most satisfying one. Like a real somber ending to an adventure. I haven't had a lot of characters I got to play for long and in depth enough to actually develop like this. It was pretty dang cool
