...maybe, it is proper to really have a thread, commemorating the life of Pope Francis.

for many, i think, he is just another world leader, and of a religion that, perhaps, has been a source not of comfort to them, but of persecution and hardship.

yet, Pope Francis was a man who was devoted to compassion, devoted to a vision of Christianity that above all things valued kindness, empathy, and love.

i hope with his passing... these values will not pass with him. what are your own thoughts?

A great man. Even as a Presbyterian, he deserves my respect. At least he made it to see Easter one more time.

(And sorry about the other thread, I just wanted to express my new experience in Christianity; not make anything political)
“ They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.”
-Matthew 22:21, KJV

I think there have been moments that I remember where Francis was still set in his old ways. But he was a pretty decent pope when it came to uniting people.

I hope the next one doesn't fall back on the Old ways.

Pope Francis did a lot of good and more than likely brought many into the fold than his predecessors.

I think we all fear a pendulum swing away from his ideals and to a harder Christianity which isn't good for anyone.

The only was to secure his teachings is to act on them which is all we can ever do.

Speaking as someone who was raised Methodist (The British version that is, unrelated to the American version) I have never been fond of the Vatican,Catholicism and organized religion in general.

However; Pope Francis was clearly a top guy. Someone who tried to make reform and change and someone who clearly did care for the common man. Not the man who sat on the golden throne and looked down upon the rest of us but someone who took up on a wooden stool and stared us in the face and spoke to us one on one.

And I respect that.

He wasn't perfect, but he was better than most, and for a Catholic that's the best we can really ask for.

i'm not a christian by any means, but Francis seemed like a real cool dude all things considered; and it seems like most people tend to agree. so may he rest in peace

that being said, i find it absolutely wild that i learned he passed away on freaking Disney + next to A Goofy Movie and Bluey!

Did you know the Pope was once given a lambo which he blessed and then sold with the profits going to charity?

Been trying not to drown myself with news about the sad events. I've looked at a bit of it. Though.

For me, personally, I had possessed a lot of hope that the Pope's efforts at spreading peace and promoting nonviolence as a fundamental ethical principle could break through in certain 'hotspots', such as with the Israeli-Palestine conflict, given his leadership.

In a world of pain and hatred, he stood with those suffering. Out of principle. He will be missed.
