played around with it on the website. I use it preferentially over ChatGPT. Don't have the hardware to run it locally.
Well theoretically I could run it locally at brain damagingly low precision (like 2 bits per weight low) but running anything below 4 bpw is not running it, really. Ideally an LLM should be run at 8bpw or higher since that's the point they are generally considered to be lossless down to.

I hear that there are small distilled models that can be run on modest hardware. But they aren't nearly as smart as the main model.

distillation is very hit and miss.
it's just a more thought out version of tutoring (finetuning a smaller model on a larger models outputs).

But there's very little R1 in them.
