What would be on the list of your favorite films of all time if you could only pick five of them?

And what do you think of Edgar Wright's list?

 No.1178730

Oof. That'd be VERY hard for me. I am not great at picking all-time favorites of anything, as I try to find good stuff about most things and I watch a LOT of stuff. So my answers can be very, very different from day to day.

I guess if anyone is curious, i can just mention five I really, really like and wanna show more people. It's just that if I had to pick five all-time-favorites, I'd have tos it here for hours and think about it and go back and forth and regret and bla bla bla.

As for Wright's list (I do love his stuff) - I am surprised all five are horror movies. Although I can definitely see where he has drawn some inspiration from the more comedic entriesm given his penchant for awsome visual comedy in his own stuff.

Plus, Last Night in Soho was a pretty damn good horror movie, so clearly he has some spooky chops, too.

It's been a while since I saw American Werewolf in London, but it really is great. Might need to give that a rewatch one of these days.

Carrie is indeed a fantastic film. From the opening where we see Carrie at the most vulnerable a girl can possibly be to the immensely satisfying but still tragic meltdown at the end - god it's good.

Evil Dead II is a great example of "reusing an idea in a different way". Semi-remake of the first as it is, it leans into its own inherent ridiculousness and does it well. There's a lot to love about it for sure.

The Thing, well, I mean... it's THE THING. As far as I am concerned, CGI still struggles to create something as viscerally terrifying and gross-lookign as some of The Thing's more grotesque transformations.

Suspiria I need to rewatch. I never paid enough attention back when I actualyl did see it. But Argento's 70ies / 80ies output is generally, at least, visually great.

...only five? Behold, the crème de la crème of film:

1. The Lion King
2. Castle in the Sky
3. Life of Brian
4. Pirates of the Caribbean
5. The Truman Show

As for Edgar Wright's list (whoever he is), I would say, 1) never seen it; 2) never seen it; 3) never seen it; 4) it's not bad for what it is; 5) never seen it 6) never seen it

Edgar Wright did pick five critically acclaimed films that, I think, have been significantly popular in both the U.K. and the U.S., so while it's a surprise that none of them aren't horror movies I get the 'vibes'!

I'd maybe answer my own question with:
>The Empire Strikes Back
>Back to the Future
>Aliens
>Terminator II: Judgement Day
>Jurassic Park
