Hey everypony!
So I finished with the ponymote thing. If you would like to give them a whirl, you should check out the new Ponymote tab in the site options. All you have to do is enable them and select the ones you like the most to add them to your posting options. Just click on the little face and it'll put a little code thingy into your post that looks like :pony:. That will be translated into the ponymote once the post is submitted. And that is really all there is too it!
Also some people probably won't care much for these, and that is okay too. I put in an option into the ponymote tab to hide ponymotes globally. It will be as though they aren't even there.
For this first set, I wanted to have the main cast characters represented pretty well so I made 6 for each of them with a variety of expressions. But, there is plenty of room for more characters and more motes per character. I had made a call for some user submitted ponymotes a while ago but I hadn't really figured out what I wanted from them yet. But I think I do now, so if you want try and make some and submit, here are a few guidelines:
1. Make the backgrounds transparent.
2. Make them approximately 50px high which will be shrunk to 27px by the site (width will auto adjust, so make them proportional).
3. The width can vary, but don't make it too much wider or thinner than the height.
4. Make sure the details are good enough that you can see what the expression is at such a small size.
Special thanks to Agiri for making some a while ago, but I have to ask that you remake them to fit the above guidelines to keep a consistent style and quality. Thanks for understanding.
As always, especially with mobile devices, make sure to clear your cache if you aren't seeing the new options.

pretty cool!
but you have to individually enable them?

No.1906
>>1903Maybe I'm not imaginative enough to think people would want more than a handful active at once in their ponymotes panel, lol. I'll make it easier to select many of them at once eventually. But since it is a one time activity to click all of them to make them active, it was good enough to push this thing out now. They'll be plenty of time for improvements.
>>1905I see them just fine on the front page. You can give the cache clearing thing a try. It always seems to resolve those oddities for me.

Ill update all the old emotes to the new guidelines when i get home
No.1911
>>1908 I'll just wait and see what happens. I don't want to mess up all my forms on other sites just for emotes.
When I'm on the front page, the panel isn't there. If I disable and re-enable emotes, then the panel appears - completely blank. If I disable emotes globally and then re-enable, then I can see emotes in posts, but not in the panel. There's no reason the cache should allow me to see emotes (the same emotes) in one instance but not another, on the same page.

No.1915
>>1909Awesome, I liked many of the ones you made so I'm glad to see them getting updated to fix those little issues.
>>1910I hope you enjoy them. Honestly, they aren't even really my thing but I thought this would be a fun and unique (as far as chans go) thing for the community.
>>1911The more I have worked with computers the more I realize that they aren't as logical as they seem (or rather they are, but there is so much buggy code out there that shit doesn't behave as you'd think makes sense). I'm about 99% sure a cache clearing would fix it, but it is your choice if you wanna deal with the hassle. You could see if you can clear out only images and files from sites and not everything. I think all the browsers give you the option to choose what you clear and that might be enough to fix it.

In other news, I think maybe I solved the problem with it randomly not showing up for people. If someone who has had the problem could report whether it is working as expected now, that would be great.

For the chain, use teflon "dry" lube. Expensive but very sexy. Keeps it flowing nicely (i despise chain noise and derailleurs so much) and doesnt give your pants those nasty black chain marks. Yuck!
Brakes are for sissies. My hardworking 1970s Schwinn 2 speed has none, but since the Specialized came with them, i wimped out and not only keep them, but even use them once in a while (dont tell anyone, its embarassing!).

>>1960Thanks for the report. I am having a really difficult time trying to figure out what to do about the issue and every little bit of info helps. I have hardly seen it happen to myself since the first few days, so frankly I don't even know how widespread this is. It is a big difference whether it is a sometimes effects some people or most of the time effects most people.
All I really know is that part of the problem is that I need some of the javascript to load after certain html elements are loaded, and I put in the right code to do that, but for some reason it just doesn't work sometimes. Maybe the page doesn't fully load and therefore the js doesn't ever get triggered? Don't know what I can possibly do about it if that is the case. Sigh, what a pain.
>>1961>>1962Thanks, I'll see if I can get around to adding these some time this weekend.

>>1964I checked earlier today and the ponymote panel was coming up ok for me on the HAY thread but only after the "load" bar finished running across the top. Until then, it was not yet visible.
Without knowing the site's code at all, it seems to me there may be some issue as to where in the page-loading the ponymote panel is implemented. The rest of the reply form was there during the page load, and since the ponymote panel appears only at the end then it seems to be coming from somewhere after the load procedure...so, especially in longer and slower-to-load threads like HAY, maybe the ponymote panel code's routine is getting skipped over because of some branch or control variable or something that does not always do exactly the same thing for any number of possible reasons. That could explain its intermittent nature.
If you need to add some code to the affected devices to help you log or gather data in some way, i volunteer to let you add stuff to mine. Edit: on re-read it seems you already see what i am suggesting, maybe you can output a status report of certain things to a local log file to determine whether certain things have completed etc? Which we could send you when we see the problem so you will know if suspected things have/have not happened?
Everyone here knows that writing code that works universally on diverse platforms is a challenging task, and i appreciate your diligent effort.
