are you excited? Something got your brain synapses firing off like a happy-go-lucky arc welder? Do you want to share something that makes you happy, but never get the chance or opportunity to share it with others?

well here's your chance! tell me something that you are excited about! Tell me something you geek out about! if you are looking for permission, well here it is!

just be mindful of the sites rules, but other than that it's all good!

whether or not somebody responds, it will feel great to air it out for the world to see <3

It's been quite a while since I "geeked out" about something, but hacker books and investing material both interest me the most since I see so much potential within myself in those endeavors.

You can give Gray Hat Hacking 6th edition by Dr. Allen Harper a look. A bit difficult, but it gives insight into how you'd get started.

I always had a thing for computers when I was young. I would ask for a laptop or protoboard for christmas when other kids wanted a Game Boy. I would also learn to protect myself from electronic attacks. Especially in the 21st century, it would be useful to be proficient with technology. And of course investing would be lucrative. Investing is a major characteristic of upper class people, so that would be of interest if you'd truly want to be rich without counting too much on only just luck.

The Fallout TV show got me talking a lot about Fallout again, it's been great.

Unlike a lot of people here apparently, I think it was pretty great and it doesn't at all fuck anything up all that much. There are a couple things I think they could have done better or not done at all, but overall it's great!

that's pretty cool! back in college, i had a documentary film class, and our project was to create a short documentary. and I had a friend who was a pretty big name in the local DefCon group, and would travel to Las Vegas for DefCon each year to do seminars and stuff. i can't remember his name, but i do remember he is belgian. was really happy with how that one came out ^_^

and that seems to check out! computer literacy is vital in this day in age, and you definetely have a hand up on most in that sense with it ^_^

i have not seen the new fallout show, i know a lot of folk here were upset, but then i'd see generally favorable reviews everywhere else, so i definitely don't have a finger on that pulse :PP

but i'm happy to report that steam has a Fallout sale, and i decided to buy the New Vegas ultimate edition!

i never played New Vegas, and i've felt very left out of a lot of conversations. especially since it's kind of a trans right of passage to play that game :PP

You know what cool? You can passively radar a target just by seeing how a reference signal (like digital-tv or cellular or whatever) reflects of a target. No interrogating signal required. Shits wild.

I don't care if it is a bad tcg and the modern meta is garbage.
These bits of shiny cardboard make me happy and miss my old collection.

And yes Mirage Knight was always the suboptimal play but it was Honest before Honest was a thing and it was the best feeling in the world to MK for game.

I used to play competitive in regionals and such but I sold my collection to pay for life situations.
Id like to get back into it proper or at least have some spare cash to toss at master duel. I avoided all the gatchas my partners play so I deserve this.

That's great! New Vegas is one of my favorite games of all time, it is extremely good. I hope you enjoy it!

Overall people are extremely protective of Fallout and Bethesda constantly does things to mess with it that people don't like. At this point I've pretty much just given up being mad about every little thing they change or do and just go with it. My favorite game series is essentially long dead and gone, it died with Interplay, so I've come to terms with that. And honestly, the Fallout TV show is very good because it wasn't really Bethesda's project, it was Johnathon Nolan's project and Bethesda just oversaw it.

Well the new installments are still pretty fun to play, which does help honestly.

Like, the thing is that I DO love the aesthetics of Fallout, not JUST the good story and politics/satire. So no matter what it's going to be somewhat enjoyable. It's also not like the new games might never be good, Todd Howard is really the main issue and he's probably gonna retire soon enough. So there's always hope. The TV show is a good example of that.

The issue right now is that the metadeck SnakeEyes sita right around a grand to buy the cards to play.
So to counter everyone is running control or burn decks. I get it but it sucks to lose to a burn deck that drew good and hits you for a random 6k turn zero.

Regionals were open to anyone I just liked playing.

As some of you may know, I play Genshin Impact. it's a legitimately great game, and play it when i have down time

well prior to the Fontaine release, they had a promo video that showcased the region, story, and characters which was awesome!
vid here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SbgmM3mSps

and towards the end was a character that absolutely stole the show for me

Arlecchino

The Knave

Father...

since the first reveal, she has captured my heart, and my desire to please Father and be stepped on by her has only increased! i knew in my heart of hearts that she was the one character i wanted above all else!

well her time has come... in just 6 days, she will be available to roll for! I have saved primos for her and also some money and she will be MINE

and just the other day, they released a 7 minute promotional video for her that was just so peak, so perfect, and it lives rent free in my mind

I don't think I have any geeky interest I haven't already shared.

I'm pretty much still hyper-fixating on popular music as usual. In a way it's like a series of hyper-fixations for me obsessing over exploring new music within specific genres or decades. I spent much of last year and thi year hunting for a new vinyl to buy every week ... which has led me to favor albums originally engineered for vinyl, which basically means music from before the 90s. So right now that means exploring classic rock in a much deeper way than I ever did when I was yoinger and mostly only listening to whatever others in my family were listening to at the time, or was playing on the classic rock stations.

In particular, I've been exploring the 60s given that mostly all had been familiar with was basically the most famous 60s bands that we all are pretty familiar with via general pop culture osmosis, so The British Invasion bands, a smattering of folk pop my parents listened to for years like Simon and Garfunkel or classic country my parents listened to, oldies stations staples, and movie soundtracks.

The later in particular has led me to finally really exploring those other artists I've never really explored, the ones that were really popular in the 60s but don't get nearly as much attention in pop culture in general anymore. Like many of the singer-songwriter movement artist of the sixties folk within the larger folk revival scene, Hippie bands from The San Francisco Bay Area like Jefferson Airplane, Pretty much any band living in Laurel Canyon in LA in the 60s (before and after the manson family murders), the British Blues rock movement (other than the Rolling Stones of course, already familiar with them). My current hyper-fixation in particular has been Bob Dylan, which I somehow never listened to in my life so far till now despite how super famous Dylan was, and the fact I was basically raised on 60s folk by my mother. Been watching a lot of old tv and film appearances by Dylan in the 60s on YouTube and ohgodIthinkIhaveacrushonbobdylan

That's fair! I honestly haven't felt the need to spend any money on it so far, but a lot like with Genshin I don't really have a lot of super big faves and the ones I do have are easy to get or even free. And I've gotten pretty lucky on my free draws as well, so it's pretty easy to say I'm not bothered by being unable to get certain characters. It just tends to be the case for me that the characters I like are easy to get or free, if you're more the type to be interested in more characters then it's always good to be careful.

that said, the game itself is super fun to play and the storyline is really great as far as I've played, so I hope some day you're able to experience it!

I honestly feel like miHoYo should be making single player games instead of gacha games. The gacha mechanics just really pull you out of the game and break immersion. The games would be much better as normal RPGs where you get characters as part of the story. But I guess you can't make millions of dollars as easily with games like that.

Does writing my first one-shot adventure as a GM count?

I've been going to a Tabletop roleplaying club for a little over a year now, and soon they are haivng a "con" of sorts - which is really just two days of playing various one-shots.

So I figure, having never tried to DM before, this is a good way to start, and to get to use a much simpler ruleset that I have had for years and never gotten to try. Much as I love D&D, I feel like entirely too many players have a very strong idea of what D&D is "supposed" to be like and get defensive when it isn't, so I wanna play a much lighter system where whatever crazy nonsense I come up with goes. You all know my taste of fantasy tends to be more on the colorful side than the Tolkien/GoT side anyway.

So yeah, I JUST finished writing the main adventure today, and need to roll up some pre-made characters (so we don't spend an hour on that) and monsters for the (only three possible, two of which could potentially be optional) encounters I have laid out.

It's based on a small adventure idea I have had for a while, which is also what I am curently basing a (completely basic, no custom assets) tutorial game in RPGMaker on, so I can learn the program before I try to start using that to create little short narrative spoopy games I have in mind.

So ye. Pretty geeky.

It was one of only two albums The Zombies produced before they broke up for financial reasons. They were kind of minor one hit wonder band up to that point but not otherwise doing that well, so their second album was a big stylistic shift influenced by the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds to fuse pop and classical music to jump on the baroque pop bandwagon that the Beatles would eventually and quickly dominate with Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club and Magical Mystery Tour

The album was recorded with a minimal budget and only a few days of studio time ... in Abbey Road studios, at the same time Pink Floyd were recording their first album in the next studio ... all while utilizing a mellotron to simulate orchestral sounds, a mellotron left behind in the studio by John Lennon of all people, because it just so happened to be the same studio where Sgt. Peppers had been recorded.

They had a very short amount of studio time to record and mix the album and had no outtakes, all material they recorded appears on the album, they also released nearly every song as a single from the album, but to no avail and eventually they broke up, they just weren't going anywhere ...

However, about a year after calling it quits and all the band members finding alternate work after splitting up, one song from the album became a hit! "Time of the Season" started getting a lot of radio airplay all of a sudden, making The Zombies minorly famous even though the band was now thoroughly over, making their band name ironically appropriate. In fact, the late success of Time of The Season led the record company to throw together a couple of fake Zombies to perform the song on TV after none of the original members were available to do so themselves, basically a couple of zombie Zombies bands. The single was successful enough that it's been used for decades in movies and TV shows that take place in the 60s as kind of a pop culture reference point.

Oh wow, I wish I had a specific thing that I'm into which I could talk about for this thread. It's fun to have something like it, but nothing currently comes to mind. Perhaps I can talk about something I used to be into some time back instead? It's geeky, for sure.

I used to be quite into obscure indie games. One of the outstanding titles from that time for me was DROD (short for Deadly Rooms Of Death). The gameplay was on its face pretty simple - you get a dude, the dude has a sword, and you can either move him by 1 tile, or rotate the sword 45* left or right. Do any of those things (not doing anything at all was also an option), and a turn passes, which means everything else in the room gets to do its move too. The goal was to kill all the monsters, generally by either rotating the sword onto them or walking that sword onto where they were, while you try not to have them do something similar to you. The image is one example room from the first level of the second game. Hitting the yellow orbs opens the wall blocking the roaches (monsters that just move at you in a straight line), but also blocks your retreat. The solution here is pretty easy for each group, but the game does ramp up.

The art style for the characters was... well, it was Very Stylised, let's put it. And the graphics weren't exactly amazing (though by the 3rd game they stepped up their game a lot with lighting effects). But the levels themselves looked clean in a way where the issue was always the puzzle, not clutter, even as the terrain changed. And the puzzles were very enjoyable, as the different terrain features (one way arrows? Boats? Growing blockages of living mud that can be destroyed only at specific points?) and enemy types (eyes that activate when they see you? Goblins that try to backstab you? Roach spawners? Brains that upgrade the behaviour of all the monsters in the room while alive?) kept ramping up the complexity, and existing mechanics kept getting used in new and creative ways. The character art never gets "good" as such, but it does grow on you. There's even a quite unique story (mostly starting with the 2nd game) that's pretty charming and well told - and it's even voice acted. Peak indie quality right there. The whole package is just ah, so good, and not something I expect many people have played before (I never play such games myself either, DROD being a big exception) so it should be pretty fresh experience.

This series originally came as a trilogy and then had some spinoffs and continuations, but the OG trilogy was probably where it did the best, with the caveat that it really hit its stride in the second game. If anyone ever wants to try it, Journey to the Rooted Hold is a good place to start.

You might be a bit puzzled-out if you had a session this long since the puzzles can get quite tricky at times, but yeah, it's fun stuff. One benefit of the game being as old as it is, is that it makes use of a long forgotten piece of technology - The Demo. You can get it here [ https://caravelgames.com/Articles/Games_2/DownloadJtRH.html ] and see it for yourself (there actually used to be a flash demo you could play right in the browser, but you know, flash). The demo has a tutorial but it can be easily skipped since the first level is basically a tutorial on its own. The controls are numpad for movement (there's also an alt "laptop" scheme for if you don't have a numpad, but I don't know what it is), QW for rotating the sword, R to reset the room to the previous checkpoint and backspace to undo your last move (and only the last move, it won't undo two, so it's mostly good for if you accidentally fat-finger an input and a roach eats you). It's worth a look if it sounds at all interesting. I'm not usually into puzzle games but that one really grabbed me back in the day.

I've decided I want to be a Vtuber. I don't even watch Vtubers, honestly, I've just always wanted to make videos about video games and hiding behind a cute anime girl avatar seems like a great way to do it.

Vtubers usually mainly stream, but I want to start doing pre-edited stuff first for anxiety reasons. I have Sony Vegas and I know how to use it so that's not a problem. I was thinking when I was sure I'd be streaming to an audience of more than like ten people I'd stream, since streaming to almost nobody sounds demoralising.

I also don't want to jump straight in and buy an entire model straight away. Those are expensive and I'm not sure this plan is going to work out yet. I want a couple of PNGs first and to try using those, but I don't know where I can find a good PNG artist yet and I'm no good at character design. Granted most Vtuber designs are overcrowded so it's probably not that hard.

It also means actually doing trans voice training, which I'm scared of doing. But maybe this will motivate me to do it. I don't know.

I at least have a good idea for an avatar.

I was a vtuber for a while, it really is great honestly.

You can make pretty good models using just the base stuff that comes with the Vroid studio. Most people who aren't artists start out with that, and the software has improved in every way since I first made mine.

Here's what I threw together last month. Arms and stuff don't move normally, obviously, that's just posed in the program.

But yeah, it's a really fun thing to do.

So actually, on the subject of Geeking Out

I recently got a little gift money at random, and I decided to get myself something I have wanted for a while: namely one of the Marvel Epic Collections.

For those that don't know, these are collections that basically take a Marvel character and just re-release them, in orde,r from the VERY first issue they appear in.

I got DAREDEVIL Vol. 1, with the first ever 21 issues.

I always liked Daredevil, but I also tend to prefer him more as a superhero than a brooding ninja that only ever fights kIngpin, sor eading the early, more colorful years where a lot of his stranger enemies are introduced is a LOT of fun.

I've only read the first two issues - his origin story and his fight against Electro, but I am coming up on characters like The Owl, The Purple Man and The Masked Marauder, and I am quite excited about it. This is super fun for me.

Also definitely making me consider deoing my "Villain Swap" idea for the art channel soon...

i had enough to go to hard pity on a guarantee, so even if she was playing hard to get, she would still come home.

fortunately, she came in at around 80, so i decided to go for the weapon, cause she needed her Scythe like come on!

i looked at my pity, and the last time i wished on that was when i got Nuevelette's sig weapon, so I was at 0 pity. So i put in my first single, got a fav warbow, so not bad.

then i put in my second wish...

the star shot across the sky...

GOLD

"oh please! oh please be Crimson Moon's Semblance"

the shadow was polearm shaped! BAM! her weapon!

i was absolutely stunned! spilled my beer and everything! Father has deemed me worthy <3

now i had also saved up some money for her, anticipating that i would have to roll for her weapon more than 2 times. so i decided to just soldier on for a chance at a C2

i think it was around 60-ish when i spotted Gold again

and BAM! She was there, a second time!

So I ended the night with a C1 Arlecchino AND her Signature weapon!

The house of the hearth was mirthful and joyous this evening!

Purple Man is honestly a pretty wild character. The main premise is quite silly, but his actual power of mind control is done in the creepiest of ways (in modern times at least) and he uses it for all the skeeviest things you can imagine. He's basically the worst possible person to have a power like that, and it makes him so much more dangerous than a name like "Purple Man" would imply. This is a dude who made an entire restaurant's customers all choke themselves by telling them to stop breathing so he could eat his eggs in peace.

DD Has sillier villains, though. I am getting to guys like The Matador and Stilt-Man soon, so that's gonna be fun.

Yeah, the idea is to take like, six superheroes or so, roll the dice twice to pick two of them, and then draw them fighting baddies from each other's rogues galleries.

And of course, this being me, I might dig pretty deep to find the most interesting / best fitting villains I can.
