Any of y'all like avant-garde art?

Like I recently got a hold of Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica on vinyl (video related) as part of my quest for classic experimental  rock and I never bothered listening to it before now and I love it, it's so fucking weird and goofy and ramshackle and challenging.

Any of y'all have any avant-garde art that you are particularly fond of?

Unsure if I have art on my pc that would qualify as avant-garde.

I generally love progressive rock (and also progressive metal), which are musical genres deliberately designed to get as "weird" and even "avant-garde" as possible at times.

Like this:

And look at that amazingly bizarre album cover related artwork!

Here's the whole album if y'all are curious

Well think of avant-garde like this excerpt from Wikipedia puts it:

"In the arts and in literature, the term avant-garde (advance guard and vanguard) identifies a genre of art, an experimental work of art, and the experimental artist who created the work of art, which usually is aesthetically innovative, whilst initially being ideologically unacceptable to the artistic establishment of the time."

I love Yes' albums from The Yes Album through Relayer myself.

My favorite of the classic prog bands would have to be King Crimson, Larks' Tongues in Aspic being probably my favorite of theirs:

I suppose it should be said that a lot of film and video game soundtracks are related to horror and/or science-fiction themes that deliberately make the listener feel uncomfortable, unsettled, and upset, and so much of that is either inspired by "avant-garde art" or is that sort of art by itself.

I could share a lot of pieces in that vein, but this chilling track stands out to me in particular:

Yeah, ambient music was certainly once considered avant-garde genre and definitely had a huge influence on horror movie scores from the 70s onward

One of the things I appreciate Brian Eno's influence for, even if my favorite Eno releases are his early avant-garde glam rock releases like Here Come The Warm Jets.

Yes is the group that I'm most familiar with, but that's probably natural given a)their longevity, b)their massive amount of current and former members, and c)their crossover into regular popular culture. I've also found that even their obscure albums have particular songs of personal interest. This one totally sticks in my mind.

My opinion of Yes is that they, along with Pink Floyd are the reason a lot of progressive rock is seen as pretentious given how they, and Pink Floyd, often seemed to take themselves a bit too seriously where as other prog rock bands of the time tended to be more tongue-in-cheek which tends limit the appeal of Yes to me. Even if Close To The Edge may be my favorite classic prog album

On the positive side, not everybody writes songs about dragons, elves, gnomes, orcs, goblins, and the rest, and Pink Floyd were willing to do that back when basically everybody thought you were a complete idiot to use material like that in commerical media, which I respect.

Also, I feel for this particular gnome for whatever reason:

Barret era Pink Floyd was certainly much less serious than Waters era, much more playful.

I keep meaning to explore more classic British spacerock similar to early floyd, like Gong or Hawkwind. I dunno, for good spacerock sounds outside of early floyd I tend to fall back on Can, especially Tago Mago
