I started reading One Piece a month ago, I got to chapter 450 in about 2 weeks and I've been taking a break since then.

One Piece fans in the audience, who are your favorite characters?

One of my favorites is Buggy the Clown. I've never seen someone fail upwards so much since Ryan Kavanaugh (or Elon Musk).

Of the Strawhat crew, if we remove Luffy from the equation, Sanji is probably my favorite, followed by Nami.

My favorite relationship between two characters is definitely Luffy and Zoro. I really love how they both trust each others abilities so much that when one hears that the other is dealing with a situation, they consider it already successfully dealt with.

I have been behind for a WHILE, despite actually really loving this franchise. I need to go like, real hard back into it.

I started reading it way back when I was like 14, and it was a revelation for me. That was around the time when the Dragon Ball run in Denmark ended and this was supposed to be the big "replacement" and I was a bit salty cause I didn't like the idea of pirates... and then I ran into one of the most insane, creative, goofy and heartfelt franchises I could have ever imagined.

I actually drew Sanji just a couple days ago, kind of on a whim, despite having drawn very little real fanart of the show. And he is definitely a fave of mine, especially in terms of fighting style.
>I don't remember how far in 450 is though, so maaaaybe it's a little spoilery since it's a timeskip design, so imma spoiler the image

No spoilers, no problem! He does the flame leg thing at Impel Down, 450 is during the arc where Brook is introduced. Very good piece!

Ah, good. Yeah, I know he got the flame leg there, but I couldn't remember chapter numbers exactly. It's been a while since I read the manga or followed the anime, thoguh I really do wanna do so again. I might just read the manga, cause goddam the anime slows down a lot. As much as I wanna watch the fights.

That drawing does feature his design from a bit later, but it's mostly a slightly different beard and shirt in his case. Some of the others are a bit more drastic.

But yeah, love Sanji. And really, I should probably draw more One Piece stuff in general. I've tried to draw Nami a few times, but it just always ends up looking like shit.

It's been almost two decades since I last read One Piece. I was at the arc where this little fella was introduced to the straw hats.

I really should go back and get caught up.

One Piece intimidates me so much, cause it's so incredibly huge!

it feels like something that anime and manga fans treat like a pilgrimage. you take the journey, and ascend to a higher level of anime

are you enjoying it so far?

Before I started reading it there were two things that put me off it: The art style was the first, most major one. I like mangas that either have extremely well crafted artistic art styles, or ones that are very cute or attractive to look at. One Piece has neither of those. What One Piece DOES have is a Popeye the Sailor Man/old cartoon aesthetic. Once I realized that, the problem disappeared. The art style is PERFECT for what it is, I would not want it any other way. I've even learned to find the attractiveness in it. The second problem is it's length.

I can tell you now that it is long, but it goes by FAST. Like I said in the OP, I read 450 chapters in about 2 weeks. I've never read any manga that fast before. I finished over 100 chapters in about 3 days. Most mangas I read are less than 100 chapters and I haven't even gotten close to finishing them and in many cases that's over a period of weeks.

One Piece just reads so well, it goes by very quickly. It's hard to put down. I haven't found a manga or comic like that in years. Usually the only thing that gets me to binge read are very good books. One Piece consistently gets me to stay up hours and hours past when I meant to sleep because "just one more chapter and I'll be done"

One Piece quite quickly turned into one of my favorite pieces of media I've ever consumed. The time and effort are 100% worth it.

I really liked that arc.

Now is a really good time to get back into it (or get into it for people who never had, like me) since it's gearing up to its ending finally (though that may still end up taking a while lol)

I love Robin, and I miss Bon Clay.

I'm not a big fan of One Piece, but Buggy truly is great. I loved seeing him at Marineford.

Also one of my all time favorite manga artists just loves to draw One Piece stuff.

I honestly loved the art style of One Piece from the beginning because of the vibe the style gives to the series.

It's also the thing I like most about Shonen Jump manga, the magazine embraces artist with more unique and distinctive art styles rather than the standard "please animate my manga drawn in the style you already know" kind of "standard" art style. One Piece certainly falls into that category right along classic Jump series like Fist of The North Star, Dragon Ball, and JoJo's bizarre adventure. Even series that have more conventional art styles in anime adaptation usually have rather more distinct styles in the original Jump manga like Yuu Yuu Hakusho, and more recent series like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man

Buggy is just so fucking good. I can't get enough of him.

>>1162969
The art style divorced from the manga didn't do it for me, but when they're put together I 100% agree that it fits the series so well. Looking at it as "Popeye the Sailor Man" specifically was what made it work for me.

>>1162973
It's one of those things you can't really know until you try it.
