Are you guys going to watch Halloween? It's a sequel to Halloween. Which should make Halloween Halloween 2, but it's not.Halloween already had a Halloween 2 but unlike Halloween, Halloween ignores Halloween 2 making it the new Halloween 2 but it's still just called Halloween. It's also not a sequel to Halloween 2 either. Halloween and Halloween are not connected. Just like Halloween and Halloween weren't connected.
So to recap, Halloween is a sequel to Halloween, but not to Halloween. It is also not a sequel to Halloween 2 or Halloween 2.
Everybody got that?

Waiting for Halloween^3. The Fun Has Been Cubed!!
Or are you summoning it like Beetlejuice. Still won't get here any faster.
I don't know why I should have to wait until Halloween to go on a murdering rampage, that's just whack. All these rules.
Absolutely. The question is when. I'm not exactly rolling in money. But I AM going to the city a few times this month, so hopefully I can convince the friend I have been marathoning the Halloween films with over the last few weeks to go during one of those days.>>844488>I don't know why I should wait till Halloween
Well you're in luck, practically every holiday has murder spree films attached to them!
Do not say Beetlejuice any more times.>>844491
What are you thoughts on Halloween, Halloween and Halloween?

Was alright, wasn't as good, hasn't been good for a while.
Halloween is dated, if only because of being one of the initial genre codifiers. While you could point out parts of it both objective and subjective that may not work as well now as it must have in 1978, its status as a genre-influencing classic is undeniable ,and I still find many of its scared and shocks extremely well constructed.
Halloween is a thematic mess. While I realize that Rob Zombie has as much right to his interpretation of a character as deliberately enigmatic as Michael, I personally feel adding a backstory is detrimental to his effectiveness, especially when said backstory boils down to "he was abused therefore he is now a creature so vile that trained psychologists label him 'the most unrepentantly evil thing in existance' but feel sorry for him anyway". The parts of it that is ACTUALLY a remake add some appreciated brutality, but I'd prefer to exorcise the entire first half of the film.
Having not seen Halloween yet, I can't speak for it, but it looks very interesting, and I particularly like getting the more unpredictable Michael back that 'takes tricks' as exemplified by the oft-used tooth scene in the trailer. I don't particularly mind yet another timeline, much as I realize it can be offputting for newcomers.
What is that, 4 seperate time-lines, now?
And yeah, I mostly agree with what you said. But I don't think Micheal's origin in Halloween rob zombie was JUST about being abused. He showed signs of psychotic behavior in his youth. So it raises the question (perhaps unintentionally) of how much of Micheal was created and how much was already in him.

Well, just on a note of odd movie trivia: I do like how Michael's mask is actually an old Captain Kirk mask that they repurposed as a terrifying, dead-eyed, expressionless killing machine. Or, you know, Shatner.

Hey if it's true this is Coming Out Day, that means I can get started now!
Fifth, if you want to get SUPER technical:
R1 - R2
1 - 2018

What do you mean "repurposed", it sounds like Kirk to me.
So 4 if you exclude 3, since it's got nothing to do with Micheal Myers. Yeah, that seems really complicated for newcomers.
Most horror franchises just have one continuity and MAYBE a remake that can be ignored.
File: 1539297878222.jpg (73.64 KB, 1023x577, 1023:577, trekponies.jpg) ImgOps Exif Google
but this thread is already refreshing.>>844519
that's pretty cool trivia, I didn't know that. Did the mask actually look like Kirk in the first place before it was painted, or was it like the action figures that could have easily been Ken in a uniform?
*that original mask painted would be a cool token for any Shatner museum...
It is a bit confusing, but it's hardly that different from any other franchise that has several incarnation or has to deal with Comic Book Time.
Hell, it got REALLY confusing with Godzilla once we entered Millenium where each film is largely standalone or a sequel to the original only after decades of having just two timelines.
File: 1539298030874.jpg (30.81 KB, 550x266, 275:133, font.jpg) ImgOps Exif Google
Looked a bit like Kirk.
It'd be much more valuable to a horror museum than a shatner or Star Trek one. But Masks like that don't last long. The original is more than likely destroyed.

No argument from me on that point!>>844519
Yep -- and the dull white adds an extra level of creepiness, or so I feel.>>844524
Well, the Kirk mask (side by side with the Michael Meyers mask) looked like the one shown above.
You're right, I think the original is gone by now.
Hmm. Time to put on the correct tripcode. Ah, that's better.
Yeah, except I think there is still one that is a direct sequel to another, and bwech.
It's really just best to think of them all as standalone things.
When did they first start rebooting movies?
I was surprised in the 80s to find some movies already having been made like 3 times by then, specifically Dial M for Murder.

What I found said it was Cecil B. DeMille's The Squaw Man. The first one was made in 1917 then it was remade in 1918 and then again in 1931. DeMille also did a 1923 silent version of The Ten Commandments and then remade it in 1956.
Then of course Ben Hur was originally made in 1907 and has been remade almost 5 times now, including a TV Miniseries.

I'm gonna hafta check out some of those other versions of things.>>844715
that's pretty close to right away, yes.

Well I mean, I've already watched
Halloween, Halloween, and Halloween, so of course I'm going to go watch Halloween.

I'm more of a Halloween 5, 5, and 5 kind of gal.

Well from the looks of the trailer, it's going to focus on the psychology of Michael Myers like the first movie rather than the killings like most of the movies, so Hell yeah, I'm gonna see it!
I just wish they added just one more word to the title so it didn't sound like a complete reboot. If I were new to the Halloween series, I would probably want to watch the original movie after this, and if I bought both movies, I'd have "Halloween" and "Halloween" next to each other on my shelf!
Naturally, I already have Halloween 2 next to the original on my shelf, but still, I can see a new generation seeing this as the true sequel to Halloween, resulting in a lot of confusion.
There's only one 5. And it sucks.>>845023
Final Destination already messed things up. Final Destination 4 is called "The Final Destination". But when that got a sequel they just said fuck it and went back to numbering them. So there isn't a Final Destination 4, but there is a Final Destination 5.

He could still be recycled, rehashed, or really reaching for ideas. Just like the series as a whole.

Put him in space in the future and infuse him with nanomachines like in Jason X.

Or they could put him up against a similar antagonist Alien VS Predator style!
Don't fuck with this serial killer!>>845148
Yes, but it is a title they can use!
Also, they could make his death canon, but then scientists from the hospital that held him while he was in a coma make a clone of him because reasons?...

I mean I know about Alien VS Predator, but where does Judge Dredd fit in with all this?

I have it but haven't read it yet.
There was also a Batman vs Predator a long time back too.

>>845186>Batman VS Predator
I mean... Predator is basically Batman if he was evil, didn't hesitate to kill and was stronger than a normal human. And also an alien. I give this win to Predator.

Yea, but it's a common enough excuse plot that it might get considered somewhere down the line.
Pretty sure they are reaching the limits of what can be done with the original Micheal Myers, seeing as they are already running into the problem of him being 61 years old now.
I'd say a reboot is in order, but they already tried that! But no, no clones!

Maybe "It's Halloween"? I know that sounds stupid, but at least it distinguishes it from any of the other movies. Or going with the theme of "R" words, "Rehabilitated"? Micheal Myers is most certainly not rehabilitated, but it would fit the theme of the mental asylum.

Nah. I don't really watch movies, let alone seasonal movies.
If I'm going to watch something, I'm going to something I'm more interested in. Something with worldbuilding I can use as inspiration, I can get lost in the concept.
It's also why I tend to skip dramas or character-driven items, truth be told.
