coffee and friends sound so nice <3

oh yeah, all i can say everyone was relieved!

so context, today we were visited by a Special Needs group, so  we had a ton of people with various physical and mental issues and their caretakers all over the park today.

early on, we had a lot of folks on and near my rides, and i helped people on and off, and for the most part it was pretty chill. some issues here and there, but nothing crazy

i have a lull in customers, so i'm just resting, and i watch my neighbor ride as he's loading people onto his ride, including some of those special needs folks and their caretakers.

one teen in particular was too big to ride with somebody, so he had to ride solo. the ride operator and the caretaker made sure he was buckled in, and the ride starts.

this guy starts reaching his arm out, which is not something you are supposed to do. Whenever we get people that do that, we are instructed to tell them "keep your arms in!" and the operator did that mutliple times, but this guy just wasn't listening.

the caretaker says "he's not listening, can you stop the ride?" which the ride operator complied and took his foot off the petal, which cuts the engine.

now for context, this ride is called the "divebombers" which is supsended by wires, and spins around. You get sails that you can control your ride, and you typically go up in the air like a good solid 20 feet or so. It's not a ride that stops on a dime, it takes time to slow down.

So the ride starts to slow down, but it's still up in the air like 15 feet or so; and this guy decides that this is the time to start "getting off the ride"

the guy PUT HIS LEG OUT of the car into the air! He proceeded to kick a nearby tree! Fortunately it was the very top, so very flexible with no give, so he didn't hurt himself

at this time, the caretaker was freaking out; the ride operator had a look of horror on his face, and I was just staring agape! I walked inside the bounds of his ride, ready to do something in case he slipped out.

fortunately, the seatbelt was held in place, and he didn't try to unbuckle or anything, so he stayed in place while the ride slowed down .

as soon as it stopped, the caretaker was PISSED and immediately went in there to help the guy out, and we got everyone off the ride. They stormed off, and the caretaker was doing his best not to flip out, cause at the end of the day, this guy was not really able to understand what he did. I felt so bad for the caretaker -_- i'm just glad everyone was okay

he wasn't allowed on any of the big rides after that for good reason.

the other ride operators and i talked about what just happened, and the operator who was running the ride took a moment to calm down...

fortunately the rest of the day was quiet and easy going, and we went through the rest of the day with no other issues

but damn...

Nothing a bit of emergency stabilization work couldn't fix though. I have to drop now, but maybe I should take a picture, if the weather allows.

I've always wondered how easy it is to get absolutely obliterated in D&D.

Like you keep getting too low rolls on about everything and you just end up dying.

 No.1175908

>>1175907
It depends not just on your luck of the dice, but on how lenient your DM and your overall game is. It is not at all uncommon for DMs to just handwave ways for things to turn out okay after all, in the interest of continuing the story isntead of just facing a total party wipeout.

But yes, it can happen. I have been in some... less than awesome situations myself.

How forgiving is the game itself really?

I once played a D&D board game. You had to explore rooms and gather treasure by fighting monsters. At first it was easier. If you won you got to get a treasure, which either increases your gold (and got you closer to the win) or if you were lucky you could get an item to strengthen yourself (which were quite a bit more rare).

But as you wet to a higher tier, you had to roll almost perfect rolls to beat the monsters and if you lost and were unlucky, you could be insta killed and start all over.

Most happy D&D stories, I've heard are those where people talk about some narrative funny experiments where they won with a lucky throw.

But I bet, anything but the lowest ranking monsters will probably absolutely destroy your character if you are not rolling anything less than stellar throws.

So you just end up getting beaten and beaten and if not outright killed, your character ends up with 0 growths and a truckload of handicaps keeping you out of the game, really.

 No.1175910

>>1175909
Depends on the edition. THey have gotten a lot more lenient over time. Early editions were pretty damn hardcore.

There are some house rules where you have to "confirm" critical failures and critical hits with a second roll, for instance. But really, it is very very different from campaign to campaign and comes down to what the DM and players have agreed on.

 No.1175911

>>1175910
Confirming criticals is from 3.5 and 3rd edition, not sure about 4th edition, and they got rid of it for 5e.

>>1175909
It's actually not really statistically possible for 4+ people to roll so badly so constantly that they do nothing but lose. Like Esh says, it really depends on the edition, but it also depends a lot on the DM and how punishing they want to be.

The DM does most to-hit and damage rolls against the players in private, so it's actually really easy to just say a different number.

D&D is an incredibly modular game in terms of how difficult it can be, and very little of it has to do with constantly rolling bad rolls, which is statistically not going to happen anyways.

 No.1175912

>>1175911
5th edition itself is also an extremely easy game. Even rolling badly, it can be very hard to lose. The game gives you a LOT of abilities and chances to do good and enemies are generally less dangerous than they are in older editions.

I can't tell you how many times it's looked like the battle was going to go badly, but my players, or me as a player, steamrolled it with barely an issue. You have to try REALLY hard as a DM to kill your players in 5e, and even then it's more difficult than you'd think.

EDIT: Also D&D board games are generally way different than D&D itself, and are often way harder, so they're not really a good litmus test for how playing with an actual DM will go.

To be honest, while Centaurworld has opportunities to continue, at least the story was sort of finished by the end.

The big bad defeated forever, characters got their happy ever after,...

Sometimes it is to wonder whether a series must continue after its conclusion, or if it's better to simply have 20 or so episodes and just call it a complete story.

Gravity Falls for example also has that dilemma kind of.
It would always be fun to see more Mable / Dipper, but at the same time forcing a new season just ruins the original's conclusion kind of.

Some good shows out there seem like a conflict between passion project and profit.

Like, Centaurworld was good, but probably didn't have enough ratings or so, so had to be cut short. I wonder how producers feel about that when they get to make cartoons only for them not to last as long as they hope.

I wanted to design the Zone Maps to look like this ( https://cf.geekdo-images.com/pneAF1cP7mAzPQ7L0mfM0Q__imagepage/img/SeDMP5HP-xd0-V2FZs8MznJ4sAM=/fit-in/900x600/filters:no_upscale():strip_icc()/pic142207.jpg ) but more elaborate. I was going to put the effort into hand-drawing the background art myself... but for some reason my art tablet is being ridiculously sensitive and unresponsive, even after reinstalling it. So I had to fall back on using screenshots from Sonic games as a placeholder.

Plus, I could've arranged the squares in a more neater shape and style.

Still, there's nothing preventing GMs making their own Zone Maps along with Dungeon Maps so they can be as minimal as they want to be with it. It's just the Zone Maps I made are sort of a bad example in comparison to how I invisioned Zone Maps... but with my art tablet being ass, I sort of want to just get it done at this point.

I believe I should've designed my Zone Maps like this, a 4×3 grid, each with 3×3 areas that serve as potential spaces. Then I plan my course through the areas, that way I would have more "square spaces", even adding more spaces between the grids.
I could even add alternate paths and lanes that players may choose to take for potential squares to land on.

The problem with the current Zone Maps is I used a 3×3 grid, which means less number of spaces that look more stretched and distorted.

These zone maps are for d6 = 2 movements after all so I should becareful not to allow a high roll to allow players to skip most of the board.

A tidier version of the aforementioned >>1176321

The idea is I plot a course through the board with the dark-grey squares as the "spaces" the playing pieces move across. The light-grey squares are additional spaces that connect the segments across the map (though I could probably still use some light-grey squares for side-routes and such.)
I then remove the excess squares and grid so that it be more like a traditional board game, with  illustrations of the map environment and such.

This would offer better course designs, more spaces for players to move across and will just look better than the eye-sore that is >>1176316

>>1176333
If you still don't understand what I have in mind, that's alright. This grid is for use on a later date. I might need to buy a new art tablet since my old one is acting funny (I want to get the one with the additional screen you can draw on sort, plus my old art tablet is over a decade old.)

True, but, I believe it was done that way because Kevin Keene was supposed to be the main hero of the group. Simon, Megaman and Pi-uh, Kid Icarus were still heroes in their own right but if Simon Belmont was the badass vampire slayer as we all know he is, then why would we want some Nintendo-jock be the hero?

Plus, Captain N was the only major Nintendo crossover at the time, especially as an animated show. I doubt Nintendo would bother to revive it let alone a Smash Bros. cartoon series.

Players assumed these heroes were badass while DiC assumed them to be lesser, flawed heroes in comparison to Kevin Keene who they intended to be the protagonist of.

And yeah, I can see why this show was criticized over it, it is still the first cartoon that turned a mass crossover of various games for the NES into an isekai.

I believe this is why some still hope for a Captain N reboot, not because they want Nintendo heroes to be depicted as flawed parodies but because they want Smash Bros. as an animated series.

It's Polish, yes. And performed by an orchestra. It's an interesting song, which is the only kind that catches my eye at all, whether I like it or not. There always has to be a Hook to at least write two paragraphs about it.

The song comes from a Polish TV series from still in the communist era. One of the popular topics for creators was Past History, because well, it was just politically safer. It's led to the creation of many Culture Defining productions, as well as this one which didn't quite land there, but is still quite good. It's the opening theme tune from a show about a steppe knight having adventures in the XVII century. Not many details are being sung, but there's enough. "In the wide steppe / which is unmeasurable / even with the falcon's eye" etc.

The lyrics are simple enough, punchy enough, and singable enough that it's for whatever weird reason now the unofficial Polish hymn of the volleyball supporters. I cannot tell you quite why it landed with THAT, but it is Quite Good.

Well, you see, fans of factory games are currently in the Extra Good Eating season. Satisfactory dropped their 1.0 version recently, officially exiting early access and becoming more-or-less feature complete, and Factorio is releasing its long awaited DLC soon. Given the order I'm playing Satisfactory for now.

Satisfactory has a pretty weird progression curve. In Factorio, you advance by producing science packs which you then feed into labs. Basically you need a constant stream of each kind since you just need so, so, SO many in total, so you need to set up a dedicated production line for each, while also managing Other Issues like pollution and alien fauna attacks (aggravated by that pollution and coming to wreck your buildings). Satisfactory instead has you progress in three main ways:
1. Creating or finding multiuse products you then feed into a Science Minishack by hand to unlock one of the not-that-many dedicated techs that are mostly QoL
2. Creating products, including dedicated ones, to progress down the unlocks and tiers in the Main Tech Building, which shift how your factory functions a lot
3. Scouring the map looking for special resources, mostly hard drives from crash sites which you can then transform into a roll of the dice for a new recipe allowing you to make a thing you already know how to make from the other two paths but in a different way. Most of these are faff, but some of these are HUGE.

With no coordinated alien attacks and a pretty firm yet low limit on how much stuff you need to make to fully progress, and with how massively the unlocks can change how your factory should function yet how quickly they drop, it kind of pushed me into a permanent bootstrap mode where I mostly just threw efficiency to the wind and made a spaghetti of basic resources and the rest I'm moving and shifing by hand. I should make proper neat, clean dedicated lines to make stuff but with reworking them being so soon in the cards, well, reworking = effort.

Well that's that, I'm done with Satisfactory.

I still 100% believe humanity is gone in that setting, and ADA is just screwing with human clones to perform the thing she was programmed to do, which is to exploit new planets. No way the spaceship you launch in stage 5 isn't just that, a new space seed for her to create a new hapless sucker/pioneer in a new place. But anyway...

To the left, my factory platform. It's where I put my space elevator and it hides the spaghetti nonsense quite nicely. Also it's where I did all my manual juggling to take advantage of somersloops and their exponential potential. x2 is serious business when you compound it multiple times.

In the center, my coal power plant. It's ok. I could have probably finished the game with just it. But then I needed something to do while the 1000 nuclear pasta was getting made. Therefore, on the right... a massive rocket fuel power plant. An absolute overkill. Just the power boost from the somersloops was enough to cover all my power needs. But like I said, it was Something To Do. I think it ended up buggy but that's liquids for you.

The kicker is I wasn't kidding. I never bothered setting up proper factory lines through all the game. The big rocket fuel power plant is the closest I got, and I didn't really need it. All that was left at that point was to make nuclear pasta for stage 5, so I could just sit and wait.

>>1176828

It was allrightory.

I'm a Factorio guy 100%. Playing Satisfactory is eating the puffed up rice crackers when you want Real Bread. Oh sure it's better than starving but I wish I was eating bread. I'm waiting for the Big DLC that will drop next month.

I feel Satisfactory is for people who want to larp creating an aesthetically pleasing factory. If you just go for the efficiency it gets stale quick. Now, Factorio, there you gotta truly commit to the machine god.

Yeah Satisfactory has Factorio beat easily in "creative mode skleekness", if I were to put it that way. Imagine a Cool High Tech Production Facility, and you can make it in the game and it'll look so cool.

But if you want an automation game where you need to transform literally millions of resources into other things and then those other things into yet different things and all of that under actual pressure (let's be real, the critters of Satisfactory aren't exactly an issue... unless you have arachnophobia) to win, Factorio is the way to go.

Anyway, gonna drop again for some moments, turns out there's Tech Support Stuff for me to do suddenly

oh i've been enjoying it immensely thus far! the part i got stuck on was where Ashley was using a wrecking ball to open up the path to the elevator; i had few healing items and my ammo was low. and it's just waves of things that wanted to ruin my day. got it done tho finally, so i'm happy!

what video you watchin now?

I don't remember the wrecking ball. Maybe I should play it again.

Usually when I play it I first waste my ammo. Then I start over and save it and I end up at the final boss with way too much ammo.

Possibly? Did she ever have a profession in any of those old cartoons? I only recall her as a housewife.

I figured she was a flapper performer / moviestar debutante.

For some reason, I was just thinking how they could reboot her in the modern days.

She definitely was a sort of showgirl/flapper archetype in her earliest shorts, with the premise being that she was not sjove using her sex appeal for her own gain until she got heavily sanitized. I could definitely see her doing mildly suggestive streams, though not outright being a cam girl.

I think titty streamers fit the niche nicely.

Not brazen enough to directly feature and be tied to porn cam shows, but brazen enough to play video games / do ASMR streams while banking on her assets.

Or, erh, is this incredibly misogynist now?

It's be misogynistic to claim all female streamers are like this, but just stating the fact of the matter that some of them exist? Nah. Though I am sure SOMEONE would take issue with a cartoon character having that as her main gimmick.

>>1177369
Yep - Betty was introduced as the Minnie to Bimbo back in the day, and had floppy ears cause she was supposed to be a poodle. Bimbo just got phased out as yet another Mickey clone as Betty became more popular, is all.

Gotta process those resources into other things. When you need 100+ machines to fully churn through the input, it makes sense to figure out an arrangement of [machine] / [power] / [input bits] / [output bits] that does the thing, is compact and is as tileable as possible, since then you can just repeat it however many times you need until you have enough throughput to process it all. It's not all the same, each row is different (there's some interesting arrangements in there since I'm avoiding transporting screws as they make your logistics explode, but I do produce a thing that's very screw hungry), but yeah within each row things ended up generally the same. People like to build "nice", but I figure I'm after scale instead.

This is a factory which handles all the iron and concrete products of my starter bootstrap "1 machine per" spaghetti factory. It just needs to also make caterium wires, copper wires and cables, combine the caterium and steel pipes (also already produced up here) into stators and start making engines, and I can finally completely dismantle the starting bootstrap nonsense.

In further jerky updates... turkey breast jerky. They said it would be bullshit. It works so well.

Next up, pork loin. Once the food dehydrator time is free. First, more beef jerky. Then lots and lots of mushrooms. But I've been thinking, pork loin jerky with teriyaki inspired marinade and sesame seeds.
