Well today in most of the world is Halloween, All Hallows Eve, or Nightmare Night. The spookiest and candy filled day of the year. And just around the corner is even more holidays, major and minor, for the next couple of months.

As much fun as it is it can also be a ton of stress, so please be sure to take care of yourself if you're feeling tired or stressed out, take some time to relax and just enjoy the festivities if you can, and be sure to keep warm with a hot drink of whatever beverage you enjoy the most.

Yeah, how can you even party properly if you don't have a day afterwards to recover? And if you're recovering at work, as many people are bound to be doing anyway, why not just let people have that day off, to increase morale for an overall productivity gain at a negligible productivity loss in that particular moment? Things are organized silly in the US, very much.

Rats ARE classically placed on ships. Except when those ships are sinking.

Indeed then, let us say it is what it was then, so the ship won't sink.

But then, is there even a ship? Can a ship sink if it never existed?

What is the least cruel fate for the crew, here? Deciding one way? Or the other? Or leaving it up to them? What if they can't figure it out, and are left out sailing for an eternity, not knowing if they even exist or if they're just thoughts in the heads of the crews they encounter?

I feel like we're playing with ghostfire here.

I meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean the mission starts with two of your characters being kidnapped as the other three are left in a situation where they're about to be executed (luckily by a trio of enemies who are rather inept). Those three break out, of course, but then of the two kidnapped one is put on a ship and carried off who knows where. The mission is then to save the other one, and to see if she knows where he was taken - but that technically means that as I was sneaking about, the ship has been getting away all this time. Not actually, since the game doesn't account for it, but spending time on a slow and methodical sneaxtermination of an entire village's worth of enemy soldiers doesn't quite gel with the story here, heh.

Everyone's heard of youtube premium, right? It's basically pointless on a computer where you can just slap an adblock on (...for now, but that's another story) and you're good to go. Not so much for mobile devices, where the basic client is crippled and you can't easily add your own extensions. Well, everyone might have heard of it, but not everyone heard of Youtube Vanced (see, it's a joke: ADvanced, with no ADs), which was basically a hacked youtube client that was free but actually even better than youtube premium. That slowly started to change though, with Vanced slowly growing in popularity.

So obviously Google went ahead and killed that project with their lawyers.

Predictably though, some time later... https://github.com/revanced

Vanced continued working and being developed after being kicked off the store. You just had to get the relevant apk directly. Revanced is similar, though the catch with it is you don't even get a client at all (so maybe that'll keep Google at bay). Instead you install the manager (also probably the MicroG thing if you don't want to mess with root privileges), feed it youtube's own apk, and then it creates a tailor made revanced apk out of that for you to install, with modifications of your choice from an already pretty large list. I put sponsorblock in mine for example, because sponsorblock is great.

And that's how I know it's actually a good one, heh. It feels a bit like Mimimi were trying to make a modern day resurrection of Desperados but didn't have the license so they made this.

And it was so good they got the actual Desperados license for their next game, and really knocked it out the park then. But this is pretty excellent in its own right, despite the fact that for some reason nobody seems all that excited when I point out that it's great and it's free if grabbed right now. Coffee... as soup? Now there's an idea. Here I thought "does the milk in cereal count as a broth, and if it does at what point on the way from the carton does it turn into it" was a radical topic which looked like one of those things which can start Discussions on the internet.

>>1131869
Indeed, I do like the discussions as it expands the different way things can be thought of. To question the reality we have and maybe discover something we didn't know.

Though I would consider milk as broth, and then the addition of cereal to be a soup since it's a broth with added elements.

Though that depends on the definition of broth to begin with.

 No.1131871

>>1131870

The soup I made is a more literal soup, but then I think it still might stretch some people's definitions with how relatively little liquid it has. It could arguably be pushing towards "stew". Yet it's nothing that radical.

"Broth" defined as "the liquid part of a soup" seems like a good enough starting point, but surely it has to be refined. Like, milk can't just be "broth" by itself. Imagine a cow being milked and "broth" getting produced as a result. Or adding a "broth" to tea or coffee. Also what of the heretics who eat their cereal with water. Is pure water broth now too because of them?

There has to be more to it than that. Do you need to add an intangible to turn a liquid into broth, like a "soupy intent"? A "soupy history"? It would mean basically a secular version of transubstantiation is going on here and I'm not sure I'm ready for that, either.

>>1131871
Well the big question is usually the creation of broth is made through the boiling or soaking of different consumables to alter the state of the liquid to take on those elements.

So that's where the big question of milk or water being a broth comes into being, since usually you also make water INTO broth so I would think water would not quality since it's a ingredient of broth

Corn Flakes and Kelloggs in particular.
The creator of Corn Flakes was apparently a very stringent religious person who didn't want young people... exploring themselves.

So they somehow decided that flavorful foods were causing senses to be inflamed and cause people to do dirty deeds, so they make corn flakes, a bland tasteless food to try and counter this so hands could hold more bibles, and less body parts.

>>1131874
Water I would still contest as being a broth since it's an ingredient of broth to begin with. It would be the same as calling a bunch of flour a cookie.

As for milk there is an argument as it is part water and part other substances, and it is made through a body which is usually heated anyway so there is a very weird argument.

Well if the cornflakes are removed, it could be considered a broth of milk and cornflake essence

See, that's also the concern with calling "milk" a broth before it hits the bowl. Also the fact that flour is just one ingredient, as is the milk, or the water. Perhaps there needs to be some mixing of ingredients and some processing going on.

Perhaps cereal isn't actually soup.

>John Harvey Kellogg (February 26, 1852 – December 14, 1943) was an American medical doctor, nutritionist, inventor, health activist, eugenicist, and businessman.

(wait what was that second to last part)

and if you scroll down, while it does say that Kellogg isn't directly responsible for mass circumcisions, it gives that with a [citation needed]. Then it gives citations for his view that circumcisions should be performed without anestesia "as the brief pain attending the operation will have a salutary effect upon the mind, especially if it be connected with the idea of punishment", while women should have their clitoral glans burned with acid under the same circumstances.

So yeah you still do get the picture of the absolute, unimaginable scumbag he was.

feed43?

 No.1131989

>>1131988

It's an RSS feed generator. If a site doesn't have an RSS feed of its own but does have a relatively simple updating structure, it could be set up to monitor if something changes on that site and so make a feed for it in the form of an updating xml file it would host online good enough for RSS readers, all easily and for free. There's a bunch of other utilities like it, but feed43 had the advantage of not being overbloated garbage that somehow won't even let you do the things you need. Well, it still "works" in the sense that you can create new feeds, and the xml files will be hosted, but the site's certificate has lapsed and so now RSS readers go into a panic if you try to actually use them.

Always hating when a nice tool just gets abandoned and eventually no longer works

 No.1131991

>>1131990

I hear rumors that its author abandoning it is connected to the war in Ukraine in some way, and that he lives in the region. If he's Ukrainian I kind of don't blame him for focusing on something else if he's even, well, alive. It's just a rumour though so who knows.

For now, the tool works, it's just that the location the xml files are hosted in is spooky. So I'm working on solutions. One was to just try different tools. That didn't work out. So today I changed my focus and am developing solutions of my own. One was a basically 0 effort thing, so I've already implemented it. If the host is what spooks the RSS reader, why don't... why don't I just have a website on my LAN where I host a copy of the xml file? So I just slapped an apache server onto the raspberry pi I have on my LAN anyway, tossed a script like so onto its crontab:

#!/bin/bash
sudo bash -c "curl --interface eth0 --insecure https://node2.feed43.com/freefall.xml > /var/www/html/freefall.xml"
sudo bash -c "curl --interface eth0 --insecure https://node2.feed43.com/6022526103566444.xml > /var/www/html/egsnp.xml"

and that seems to be working nicely. I just point the reader to the raspberry's IP / filename.xml and there it is.

Well hopefully it's not a worse case scenario situation, but at least it kinda works for now

 No.1131993

>>1131992

It's just sending a curl command to be executed by bash with elevated privileges. Gotta do it roundabout like that (rather than just sudo curl) since otherwise the sudo wouldn't apply after the > and the script wouldn't be able to actually save the changes in the files pointed to. And curl, well, that's just basically a "grab the text source of that site there", which with xml being nicely all text works perfectly. Gotta give it --insecure so that it wouldn't be bothered by the expired cert, and gotta tell it to do its thing through a specific interface as otherwise it would default to going through the VPN and that's wonky at times.

Yeah still, I should work on a solution that doesn't rely on such maneuvering. I'm thinking I could just scrape the two sites myself and generate the xml on my own rather than rely on feed43.

Doing such things is always a gamble though. You have to be able to stop yourself from tinkering with it. Like I'm kind of getting the urge to. Because now that I have the source code that I wrote myself, I see how it could be improved. It's such an obvious thing, too.

Not quite that since the sunk cost fallacy propells you forward because to do otherwise would make the already expended effort "wasted". This effort isn't wasted, there's just diminishing returns. Yet the improvement-making itself becomes the activity.

...I still might tinker with it further anyway. Just one more little change to fix a thing that annoys me. It'll take some hours but I GUESS IT'S WORTH IT FOR THE PYTHON PRACTICE amirite

Haha, well a little bit of python practice never hurt.

Yeah, I guess diminished returns would be it too. But it could also be the challenge of improving the code that propels you forward. I guess it depends on your perspective

 No.1132042

>>1132040

But yeah the problem I have with the current iteration of the script is that it copies what feed43 did, which was to have only one item in the feed and delete the old ones. Makes sense for a free service, and most RSS readers will handle it no problem anyway.

The issue this creates though is twofold. One, if your reader isn't constantly checking the feed it might miss updates and have no idea that even happened. Two, look at that script. It picks a link for the item to be a hardcoded sourceUrl/default.htm . This is obviously a link only to the very latest strip, so once the page moves on, it becomes invalid. So even if my feed reader knew there had been multiple updates, I wouldn't. Trying to view them all would simply open the newest strip multiple times. The solution is of course to pair the item with a link to that specific strip, not to the "newest" page. But the way Freefall in particular rolls, that won't work. The newest strip will get its own special link only when it stops being the newest. You can predict what it's going to be as it follows very easy rules, but the link won't actually work until the next update drops. It wouldn't be a problem if I kept the old items though, I could just replace the newest item's /default.htm link with a targetted one when it stops actually being the newest.

So yeah, some tinkering is possible still. But I have to weight if I actually want to do it. These tiny improvements never end, a new one always appears as a "wouldn't it be nice if" option.

Hoo boy.

I have this powder-based drink I buy - just use powder, add water and shake, and you get near perfect flavor of your choice.

The bottle REALLY does end up looking rather gunky if you forget to rinse it.

Which makes sense and isnt really unclean or dangerous, but yipes.

Yeah this company I am getting it from is just trying to emulate flavors more than a speciifc brand. Sadly, they don't actually have flavored energy drink just one that... well, tastes like energy drink.

In theory you can mix it, but in my experience that didn't work super well.

Nooot necessarily.

I know for me, sketching on tablet feels "wrong" because I am more accustomed to the natural friction of pencil vs paper. Tablet does generally feel "smoother".

It's all practice, cliché as it is.

Also, I did ksetch this earlier today. Cor blimey.

honestly I really don't know. it might also just be how I can get a more direct response in pencil and paper as opposed to being more distant and a more indirect response.
