It's been a long long time since I started one of these threads, and i feel it's high time i bring it back!

Kaizen in japanese roughly means "change for the better" or "continuous improvement", and as the name implies, it is a philosophy of self-betterment and actualization. However, unlike here in the US or in a lot of western countries, the general idea of improvement is through good habit and right practice. Eventually through the right practice, you will have the best outcome possible.

Don't just practice till you have it right, but rather practice until you can no longer do it wrong.

So what is the point of this thread? I just want to see what you are doing in your lives that is Kaizen? are you doing something, even just a tiny bit, that is improving yourself and your work/actions?

if not, is there something you have wanted to get better at, but haven't tried/haven't given serious attention to?

in the philosophy of Kaizen, even a single minute of practice a day is better than nothing. a single sentence is that first step to your novel. a single brushstroke is the first semblance of your master painting!

so come in and share your Kaizen with us <3

 No.1103294

Probably what best qualifies as Kaizen for me is my efforts in ADHD management. Ever since being diagnosed a year ago i've been fighting daily to create strategies and habits, iterating on them daily, to be as effective as i can be in my life.

I don't know about never doing it wrong, i'll always have a life jam packed with fuck ups. My goal is more that i want to keep raising my chances of success, squeeze every last fraction of a percent of success i can out of my habits. Get from succeeding 60% of the time to 60.01%, then 60.02%, etc.

Something tangible i can show for the effort is the 3d modeling i've been doing. it's just, really hard for me to succeed at that, but i'm trying to raise the odds through constantly iterating on life management skills.

Oh, and something else i can throw on the stack is just my beat saber play. This song used to be a nightmare for me, it felt unbeatable. Now, it just feels easy, almost trivial. On to the next unbeatable challenge~

i understand that feeling! as a fellow ADHD person, it has been very revealing how unique approaches to my life to accomodate ADHD really changed how i approach life in general.

and you squeeze all the success from the orange of life!

I feel like I get better and faster on the line every day. My plating has come a long way and I have had a lot of compliments.

I am going to therapy and taking HRT.
I am in a very happy triad.

I honestly, despite my urge to rip myself to shreds, have done a lot.

>hugs and kajis <3

the big thing is the animation stuff, but you probably guessed that. although i guess technically since i'm treating that as my job, that might not count

so what i'm trying to do mostly is to do small workouts between things, just moments where i'm up and doing something active.

another thing is trying to help my diet. i've been eating more fruit lately, and that's been good  for me ^^

how are you tonight btw ^^

Ah, those are good things to be working on! Got the major bases covered, career and health~

I'm good! Been thinking a lot about determination and perseverance lately. It's funny, when i read and watch stories where my favorite characters struggle and fight to overcome, i feel like it gives me the will to do the same. I suppose that's what being inspired is though! So given i need some inspiration lately I've been reading the latest novel from my most inspirational character, White. Her determination is contagious to me. Which is fitting since I'm using that to make a model of her!

that's okay moony! kaizen is good for being productive, but it can also be good to just slow down and take a moment. so it doesn't have to be anything crazy

maybe taking a moment to breath and clear your  mind, or smell the flowers, or coffee ^^ a kaizen of peace and tranquility <3

I've been going overboard with guitar practice via Rocksmith.

Haven't learned any theory or ear training or anything like that. This is all implicit learning.

However, it's really hard for me to think of this as "kaizen" ... and honestly? I kinda don't want to think of it as such cause in my personal philosophy and life experiences from the last time I mastered (or rather "mastered") a skill (programming) I found it to become a trap and had to accept that self improvement can be contextual and what can be an achievement can end up being a fleeting bit of self-esteem before it becomes a trap that limits your freedom and makes you doubt your identity and constantly second guess if you even know what improvement looks like for yourself.

I really really don't want to think of guitar playing and music composition as "self-improvement", cause if I do that, then I am just going to invest too much of my sense of self worth into it, and just make it yet another source of stress. I just want to be able to do it cause it's fun and I would love to be able to express myself creatively in the form of art I've always been most pasionate about, I don't want to worry about whether or not I become a virtuoso or if I meet any alternate standards of what others think makes a great guitarist. I don't give a shit about technical proficiency as an achievement for the sake of achievement, but only as a means to being able to make and record the kind of music I like, the kind of music that expresses me, or even just merely for the sake of exploring aesthetic possibilities. I worried way to much about whether or not was I was acomplishing in college was good enough and it ended up breaking me down and feeling like I had wasted a good chunk of my life and thrown away my future after realizing it was completely wrong for me.

Mostly been playing some classic rock/dadrock stuff as well as some 90s alternative stuff since that's mostly what's available on Rocksmith 2014. Want to learn more indie stuff but there's not much available on it.

I eventually want to make avant-garde art rock/pop. Especially psychedlic stuff that incorporates electronics made with some sort of DAW like maybe Ableton or FL Studio

Stuff like Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala, King Gizzard, or Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Basically I would love to make stuff like this

espresso... gosh

that is a whole different style, it is very tough to get beans that are good for espresso, i think, because it is so concentrated, it requires a very particular roast and bean quality

for espresso, very often, it is recommended to use very acidic coffee, like ethiopian (yirgacheffe) ...which is not my favorite. but, it does help a lot in an espresso roast, i think

There was a particular flavor profile I liked when I was young. My memory of it is not legitimate, but I know the direction I want it to go in. I think the closest I've come to what I'm looking for is something a Colombian friend served me in their home.

I will have to try both your suggestions.

i like columbian myself, i tend to favor darker roasts in general ^^

i think the best coffee i've had was when i bought that jamaican blue mountain coffee, and it was so good <3 it was sorta subtle on the first drink, but then it just had a wonderful woody flavor that i loved <3

That's a nice brand. I intended to get a box for work.

I take my meds.
I suppose that keeps me together.
I hope.
