Have you ever accidentally smoked extra virgin olive oil? There seems to be some debate about what its smoke point is, with values ranging from 320°F to 405°F. I've heard that low quality or counterfeit extra virgin olive oil smokes at a low temperature, whereas high quality extra virgin olive oil smokes at a high temperature.

if by smoke you mean poured it on a small leaflet of paper to ignite for inhalation, then no.

It's not supposed to burn?... But it is oil?

I don't think I've smoked any kind of oil. I'm usually pretty careful with that, and don't tend to jump to especially high temperatures anyway.

I don't really like actually trying to cook with olive oil since it's not really a cooking oil. [?]It also makes me kinda ill so I don't like to use it in large quantities[?]>>1086083
Cooking with oil is an excersize in finding the goldilocks zone of temperature.

To me it's more of an exercise in not burning my house down.

Latke does not seem like an indoors project.
Also.. I would say those cabinets needs more flameproofing....
