Hey everyone! I'm currently hanging out with my neighbors dog, and I had an interesting idea! Was there always that sort of oddball question you never had been able to ask somebody? Well now here's your chance!

I'll start

Does music effect your sexuality?

I find that when I listen to anything that would play in a rave, like techno, house, etc. I get the urge to dance with a cute guy. However, something like dad-rock and hair metal makes me more inclined to be with somebody more feminine presenting.

It's a bit weird, but I have found this correlation to pop up quite a bit

I can't not answer a musical question.

I would say different genres out me in different moods. But it's more a case of something putting me in a more sensual or lustful mood vs a more cuddly mood. Or I might feel more or less, I dunno, dominant/submissive I suppose is the best term.

https://sexuality.fandom.com/wiki/Abrosexual
Abrosexual refers to an individual whose sexuality is changing or fluid. For example, someone could be gay one day, then be asexual the next, then polysexual the next. While it is possible—and even common—for a person's sexual identity to shift or change in some way throughout their life, an abrosexual person's sexuality may change more frequently, over the course of hours, days, months, or years. Because of their inconsistent attraction, some abrosexual people may not feel compelled to seek out a relationship or may prefer a wavership.

ugh, I'm not sure I want to give anyone those sorts of powers...But fine I bleed red like everyone else. Most of them aren't exactly surprising. Every thing is a continuum though. No song is purely one thing or another.

Something like Samasara Blues Experiment would be a bit more dom and sensual. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TnNb3cBzuE

Most of Deftones's music would be pretty submissive but sensual or something like Emma Ruth Rundle's Protection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5H07c8DlgI. I mean the lyrics of Protection and Deftones Passenger have heavy sexual submissive references so no surprises there.

Dominant cuddly would be something obvious like TTNGs Animals album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fox34Syir3E

Things like Deafheaven or post rock like We Lost the Sea or Rossetta can be very cuddly though. I guess it's more of the sub cuddly though. Lot of midwest emo would fall here and the above category too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZelICNKBBc

I don't just listen to music for its own sake constantly but also genuinely use it as a semi-magical 'cure all' so that when I'm paralyzed by mental, psychological, and/or physical suffering I can rely on music to be the eternal friend that will always make me better off, turning me into something like a real person when I'm coming across as a pain-filled, soulless automaton.

Naturally enough, since music makes me happy, well, it also makes me more likely to be romantically and sexually interested in whatever. It's common sense. When you're worried about the ability to even walk from one place of your apartment to another, honestly, you can't very much think about some French kissing and spooning at that moment, can you?

I don't think that I'm alone?

 No.1084387

I can't claim it alters my sexuality exactly, no. Best I have noticed is that, when I am walking with my headphones on, music I listen to can alter HOW I walk, or my walking speed, depending on what mood it conveys. Which probably means I look like a fucking idiot 98% of the time, but hey, I do that without music in my headphones too.

 No.1084388

>>1084301
Hmm, probably not? Usually when I'm listening to music, I'm alone on my room, or listening to whatever is playing at work, i guess.

It can certainly affect my mood pretty drastically tho, just a few notes of hotori, for example, are enough to get the tears flowing, and something more metal is liable to get me feeling energized and motivated, so it's not a stretch to think music probably could effect that. Still, can't think of any music that would provoke a boner like that or make me swing differently.

I bought a guitar 2 years ago and a Bass guitar earlier this year. I'm collecting them!

The telecaster is a classic guitar, it's been in production since 1951 (in fact it was the first mass production electric guitar). It has tons of variations and clones from other manufacturers. The model has a very long history in a lot of genres with a lot of famous telecaster players and devotees, like Keith Richards of The Rollling Stones, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, lots of famous country guitarist, lots of alternative rock artists, lots of punk artist. It's simple, but can produce a huge range of tonal variations. It's basically a workhorse model that can be used for twangy country music (a very popular guitar in that genre) to dark and heavy aggressive metal.

I used to sing on tour with choirs. Going around America and Europe on tours.

I ended up leaving that behind around ten years ago to focus on university. And by then... I was just sort of tired of it. Tired of having to be an anchor singer for a whole section, tired of the time investment... it was just something I was doing because I had talent, not because I had passion.

i have another question!

Is your ability to work on something "ruined" when something pops up, even if you still have the time to work on it?

I had that sort of feeling, when i was watching my neighbors dog. Like i had a good time, and she wasn't super demanding, but at the same time, it was like my flow was disrupted and i couldn't work on anything :PP

Ah. Let's see... this morning...

My partner was out for the first few hours so she couldn't help me and microbiology left early. Hematology couldn't handle urinalysis or coagulation studies for regulatory reasons and chemistry had a meeting. On top of that I had my daily maintenance, I had to take care of some calibrations and updates I've been putting off, and I was trying to teach one of our new administrators how to use the computer system though I'll admit I got a little snappy with her because I really shouldn't be the one solving these problems for her. Besides that I had the normal constant stream of coronavirus tests and doctor's offices needing this-and-that. There was also the inevitable backlog of work that I wanted to get knocked out before everybody else went home for the evening. A couple of other things I'm sure but my brain typically discards tasks once they're completed.

I don't usually do all of that all at once, but that does encompass a lot of my typical day-to-day.

Would you rather:
1. Spent a large chunk of your time at work pursuing side projects that are personally enjoyable to you—with the caveat that you'll have to figure out how to justify your work to your boss and depending on how it goes could reflect extra well or extra poorly on your performance review; or

2. Do the work you are assigned and the projects you are approved to do. It's a lot less enjoyable but you'd have stability and predictability as far as your work performance goes.

I'm personally leaning very hard into the first option right now and I'm really happy about my work but the stuff I should have been doing is piling up really high right now and the end of the half is around the corner. I'm a little worried but hopefully the opportunities I've identified by myself and executed on will be even better than the things I could have been doing.

My current job doesn't lend itself well to that kind of thing.

But at my old job me and my closest superior saw eye to eye on most things so I never felt the pressure of having to choose. If other tasks came down from above we would have to make progress on those though. Didn't mean that we had to completely stop work on "our" stuff though.

But if I had to choose between your options I would probably go with number 2 and then try to float my ideas/wishes by people who could make things happen.

Maybe?

Yes the cowboys are really good friends and are very comfortable around each other.

I'm exaggerating, of course. for dramatic effect!

But I do often have ideas that are very atypical and it's sometimes difficult to get other people to see eye to eye with me. And I have had enough success with my ideas and intuition that I am generally very confident in them! It helps that pretty much every time I invest in my own path it pays off. Like, at work I've been piling up savings of over a quarter million annually (and counting!) in optimizations just because I decided to ignore being told that what I was doing wasn't very useful. And it isn't like I could have been doing anything better if I'd gone a more traditional path.

I think having some truths is important! It's not like you don't either, you just haven't defined them that way yet.

Oh, gotcha! To make it easy just link one of their posts! You can even tag them and ask them on a date!

It's true that I wouldn't have replied that way if you hadn't replied your way! It's okay if you think I'm arrogant though, it wasn't like I used that word for no reason. Actually, it's that I have my own truths that i really don't feel bothered very much by what anyone thinks about me anymore!

Yeah I dunno, maybe I'll get a really big bonus and be set up for promo!  I hadn't saved the company that much money based on one of my independent side pursuits before so only the future will tell. I like to think it will be appreciated but I'm pessimistic because it was really *easy*. Like, i pretty much did it for fun in my spare time. But I guess I should be thinking about it from anyone else's perspective. A lot of people have pointed out how cool or impacting it was and I'm a little hung up over "but like, it took zero effort! You could have done the same if you even spent a minute looking for the opportunity lmao".

The company is really nice! As an full time employee. Maybe less so as a user or whatever haha

I dunno, what's constant about you? Wholesomeness could be your truth! Unless you are only wholesome for the benefit of your ponyville audience. For all I know you get up to all sorts of nefarious things offsite!

Really shaking me down for that date huh? You must really be into arrogance! So what kind of date do you wanna go on?

I eat life. Life requires a lot of spoons to properly consume. Like today, got up at 7:30, did a workout, worked pretty much non stop 9:30-4:30, then I made dinner and baked a cheesecake, vacuumed and did some other cleaning, and on a little I'm gonna do my weights if I can motivate myself to get up! Uhm, lots of things? My favourite videos are his cooking tutorials. But just... He obviously didn't make over the top of the bell curve.. so his plans, worries and solutions.. it's just interesting in a weird way. I would share if it was in English. But it's not.

It's good that new replies take old replies into account. Otherwise it would get weird quickly. I have probably spent too much time thinking about what others think about me. It's a good truth you've found there.

They should give you one year worth of savings! That would make people find all the leaks.
You found what you thought was a low hanging fruit and you picked it. Doesn't make it less of a fruit just because everyone else forgot to look at the branch or something.

Constant about me? I don't know? Wholesomeness sounds nice, but I'm not sure I'm terribly wholesome even if I'm not currently tangled up in nefarious plans.

A dinner date would be nice! You probably know some cool spots for that, right?

If I see the cute and cool anon post again I will ask! We could make it a crowd date and just go a whole bunch and have dinner and call it a date! That would be nice.

Mm I wonder if it's a bit. There was that whole Alan Tutorial project for example that started as just a character with a non specific handicap doing tutorial videos that over time became this quasi horror story about feeding the YT audience for monitisation. It was a long con but not 8 years long. There's plenty of weird YT stuff that's part avant garde, part outsider art and part someone wrote a bot to upload weird stuff.

I don't know. Maybe I'd soap someone's back for money. I'm happy with my current job though.

Yeah I agree, the moon really couldn't be made of cheese. Imagine the size of the cow necessary to have made that happen!

It is a pretty good truth, it's my favorite thing to believe. Highly recommended!

I wouldn't complain! But then probably they'd want to charge me whenever i do something which costs extra money.

Wouldn't you think this place would be hiring the kind of person who would notice these things? I feel so alien because most of my team has very little passion for the work. We had a poll on how to better utilize our strengths at work. I put up the option that we should be given more time and leeway to pursue our own side projects and nobody voted on that. Which was when I realized, I was the only one actually looking for anything like this in the first place. I guess it's not that it's so strange to imagine people not loving their work so much they create extra work for the fun of it! But still, somehow I expected different and it weirds me out that's not how it is.

You could just go the way I went and decided your constant is that you're awesome and worth it no matter what anyone else thinks! What evidence do you have to the contrary?

Yeah! I know a places for several kinds of Indian, Thai, Mediterranean, Mongolian bbq, and this place with really awesome vegan comfort food! Where do you wanna go?

Hm, that's not why dolphins have blowholes... I'm pretty sure that isn't why at least.

No. No take. Only give! They could also give you paid time off for the same amount. Then you would not end up doing anything that would cost them more in that time!

It's a big company. Getting super motivated employees in all positions is probably not easy. It was easier when it was just Mark and a few other guys I bet. But honestly... I think it's okay if people go to work for a paycheck it's not like they can chose not to work because we live in a society and stuff! But still.. I'm not sure why your suggestion got no votes. Having something you're more passionate about than others in such an environment seems like a given... Why would you not want to work on those things if possible?!

More evidence than I care to dive into I think.
But again. It's a good truth. It's not as if there's a curated list of truths somewhere that I can just pick some from? Maybe have them printed on a t-shirt so people know them?

Let's go to all of them over the course of a week!

Actually historians were wrong about the purpose of the pyramids. They couldn't have just been fancy burial chambers and casinos!

I would probably get bored haha. I need work to keep myself sane. Without that structure and thing to do I'd wake up every day and not know what to do with myself! Maybe in a decade I'll feel different but I wouldn't choose retirement right now if I could.

You must be right, but considering the company practically has its pick of the best engineers from around the world it just seems strange to me. Though I guess hiring processes are not perfect, as is evident by my being turned down dozens of times before I got this job! If we accept that super motivated people are uncommon then every company that didn't hire me made a serious mistake, haha

I think nobody voted for it because they felt they were already burned out doing the work they were assigned without thinking about side work. I want to point out, this is the same group of people who voted to change our social lunch hour from weekly to biweekly and then not fifteen minutes later voted that work life balance and burn out is their top work issue. I literally pointed that out to everyone! (They moved it to biweekly so they could do more work per week, not that they didn't like it). My teammates are weird, I dunno what else to say about it haha

I haven't even seen the evidence and I know it's a bunch of bullshit. But it's your personal bullshit and I'm not gonna pry into that. I do have an official list of truths here published by the truth institute, but I already told you your truth and they won't send you any other truths on your t shirt. They don't just sell t shirts with the wrong truths to people!

You are right, there aren't any rules like that! I'm really flexible with my schedule, so what week do you want to make our date week?

You could have a second job at Bill's place and help him save enough that he'll give you time off and then you can work with Mark while you have time off from that place! And then in a decade you can take all the time off and open a bar on a beach in.... Romania?

I don't have a lot of experience with hiring processes, so I wouldn't know. But I think you're a rare breed. Or maybe that's just me thinking I'm not a rare breed? Either way, if they really can pick and choose then they must be choosing the wrong ones somewhere during the process!

Developers are an odd breed...! Do these votes change things or are they more of a thing your superiors can use to guide them?

Maybe it's bullshit, but it feels like a truth... Are you sure it's not on your list of truths? If you just shared it with me then I could check? Maybe I could also find something more fitting than wholesomeness? What would a wholesomeness-truth-tshirt say? Or look like?

alright, i've got a question for you, cause i'm kinda stuck trying to figure out somethin in my life

should i quit my job at goodwill and focus on my own work/submit applications for things in my line of work?

now i know the saying is "don't quit your day job" and i get that for sure. but in it's place, i would probably be picking up 2 more classes per week. it's not nearly as much as i make working my 9-5 work week, but it would open up a massive amount of time for me to work on things that i don't have right now. and in it's stead, i will have much more focus on what i want to prioritize in my life.

unfortunately i wouldn't really be "saving" any money in this method, and might lose a little before things even start picking up. Whereas if i stick around goodwill, i will keep saving up money quite well overall.

but i'm at a bit of a crossroads with goodwill where i don't know if i can justify being there anymore. there are a lot of stressors at the work that bind my time, and i am subjected to the management and upper management critically recording the things i need to "improve upon" (now i'm  not against criticism. when they put me on a pip last year, i bucked up and became a top department at the store) but now i don't know what else i can do tbh. So ultimately i have this feeling that i maybe let go soonish, but that ultimately depends on how sales are going and they are going really well as of the last 2 weeks. it doesn't help that one of the managers really pissed me off -_-

but that doesn't mean i feel great there, the turnover rate is atrocious, and to sound like a meme, "nobody wants to work there anymore" cause tbh, the work deserves better pay. i just so happen to be in a position where the pay is better than what i'm used to cause i'm an artsy dreamer type.

there are pros and cons to both directions. and like with everything in my life, i feel strongly in one direction in one moment, and strongly in the other direction the other moment. I would just be grateful for some advice :PP

I've learned that if I leave a good impression by being a good worker, and don't burn my bridges on the way out, I can always get another job. Give them your two weeks proper, maybe even have an up to date resume and some other applications filled out just in case, but otherwise I've always been of the mindset of do what makes you happy first. Especially if you don't have kids or some other such obligation that would make it more difficult to just drop a job.

fun is definitely a word :PP

the difference between telling a lie and not telling a lie is very interesting! it's not simply an untruth, but rather what the untruth is for!

by definition, a lie is "an untruth with the intent to mislead". this differs from acting which is "an untruth with the intent to entertain".

well the original plan was to work to save money to move away. however nowe i'm being more inclined to quit to work on what i want to work on, with the contingency that i apply for jobs within the field i wish to pursue and/or use the projects i am working on to bolster my own brand and become self sufficient :PP

Not feeling your life ambition could be a symptom of other problems I suppose.

But a way to get started could be to investigate what made you think the other thing was your life ambition. It will not give you a new one, but maybe it would give you usable insight?

Or write out a list and roll a die to select one.

I'm both a rare breed and an odd breed? Good thing i kept my pedigree papers since I bet a purebred me is worth a fortune in that case!

Yeah, the votes matter a lot to the team! We do these retrospectives periodically which are intended to improve the team process and make everyone happier. So things get done based on votes and it's actually kinda cool that we have that much input and power over the way the team is run.

I can share the list of truths but it's not gonna tell you anything I'm not already telling you myself. Take a look if you aren't convinced! Since it's patented by the truth institute, you really have no choice to believe it and toss out feelings to the contrary!

Unless I'm dead I should be available next spring/summer. It's as much your week long date as my week long date so you can invite whoever you want. Just let me know when you're ready for it and how many reservations to make.

Seems a little ethnically sketch to me! I'd cast it on myself because that avoids the ethical dilemma and because I already have no issue answering any questions truthfully anyway, haha. hey, all questions are up for everyone here ^^

many things can dilude and numb that feeling. exhaustion, burnout, depression, or even a simple change in perspective. i'm not a therapist so i am not the right person to ask about stuff like that.

i will say this, when you said you were excited or ambitious for something; you weren't kidding yourself, and your wishes for life are valid. your heart and instinct guide you in a way. and if you are feeling no pull by heart and instict, perhaps that means you are not done processing what you need to process right now. so give it time.

for me, i've always had this underlying ambition of wanting to help the world in a way that is unique to me. so i wanted my life to direct itself in that way

now the way that i have gone towards that has changed from time to time. but each time it was because i had a feeling that this or that was the right step.

i distinctly think that what my path is now is to create and tell stories in some way that elevates me and others. that's why i want to be a screen writer, animator, comic creator, editor, and voice actress. I am only these things right now as amature and not professional yet, but i hope that this next step will really elevate that for me <3

of course <3 Glaborkadorg is love, Glaborkadorg is life <3

aaaaaaaaaaaaaah okay! i have seen that movie, but i misconstrued what you were referring to in the previous post. but that was me being a dumb dumb!

eh, i don't blame the movie for not being a deep psychological dive into the philosophy of untruth. it was a comedy about a father rediscovering what is important in his life and to stop lying to himself and his family

DWILL INTO DA HEAVENWUZZ!

i mean, i usually go with coffee and donuts myself ><

A rare oddity. Or an odd rarity? But yes, we need to clone you for the betterment of humanity!

I like the idea of some form of democracy in the workplace. For some things at least. And as long as it doesn't cause a big divide in the group it's good.

That can't be the right list?... But you're right it's copyrighted. Hmm, are you sure there's not a second page that say something like "lol jk!"
Love it, I'm going to save it somewhere I'll stumble upon it once in a while! Thanks!

Let's count on you not being dead then!
Yes, as much. Not more! So I obviously wouldn't invite all of Ponyville along without asking you if you are okay with it. But I'll let you know! Oh, could we maybe make it a sleepover too? That would be great! Dinnerdate/Sleepover!

And we are glaborkadorg <3

Well, maybe they could make a sequel that was more of a psychological thriller comedy with philosophy and lies and murder mysteries! And the dad could be Ace Ventura and the movie the origin story!

Coffee and donuts are nice too! I am a sucker for fresh donuts. But it's not that common here. So cheese on bread with coffee it is! Then I can stay home too and that's the most important part of a weekend morning. Spending 3 hours slowly waking up.

If it isn't I guess my answer is that my life ambition is to not die saying "well, that's not worth a repeat..."

>>1085271
Want to go on a date with Inanis and I and have tofu at least once during the date?

>>1085272
I mean, I'm the one with no ambitions. So my ideas probably won't get you anywhere.

But let's go with cool person? That's an ideal. Maybe you can't get to it. Like, there's no objective measurable goal like "I want to be the fastest human alive".
But maybe you can work on approaching it? Or approaching your idea of what embodies this ideal. And approaching it will be living out the ambition, maybe? One day you'll hear other people say "Oh Anon? He's so cool" and even if you don't think you made it to cool person you're closer than others. But that doesn't mean stop working towards it of course...

I don't know... I'm just rambling with the hope of possibly helping.

Or throw a dart. But if you don't believe the thing you get you're no further.

>>1085283

Tofu is a bit like meat. Except to get it to be as good and versatile as meat you have to put a lot of effort into preparation. It can also be pretty good as it's own thing, especially when crispy fried! I'd say it's less that you should go out and try tofu but that if you haven't tried tofu then their must be many excellent east Asian foods that you should experience. Highly recommend going out to a quality Korean or Chinese place if you have access to one!

Yeah philosophy is pretty dumb.

I tend to doubt myself too much. I know I'm already headed in a good direction. I tend to forget that. Hedonistic treadmill and all that. I think I need to practice gratitude more often. I've read so much about it and the good it does for one. It's hard not to feel masturbatory about it though or have it become repetitive.

Weird how to me an exercise in feeling good seems somewhere between a chore and something shameful.

But..... I think it's pretty neat..

Hmm, I suppose there's a difference between knowing and... knowing?.. Should the gratitude help you get there?
How do you practice gratitude? Like, what is an exercise like?

I don't know if it's weird? If you don't feel that it's helping... Then why would you develop positive feelings towards doing it?

 No.1085359

An example exercise might be to just list things you're grateful for that happened that day no matter how small. It's not something that directly helps you along your path, but your thoughts and feelings influence your behaviors and it's by creating positive behaviors that you can help you along whatever path. I still do need to sort out my ambitions but the gratitude is something else to work on. I have a million things to work on.

Everyone wants to be playing board games! They just might not know it yet. Gotta start introducing people to games, getting people hooked, you become their dealer, then you can do board gaming as a hobby! You can also join another group but i like the perks which come with running my own group. Just start with something cheap and easy like Cockroach Poker or Skull then once addiction sets in you can give people the harder stuff like Root and Brass!

I've been thinking about this since I got up. It seems like the type of exercise that requires consistency rather than volume. I mean, the purpose of the exercise must be to help you be more mindful of these things/moments. By doing so it will change your perception so you can notice and appreciate them in the moment.

Sounds about right? Or close at all?
How many things do you usually try to list when doing it?
I'm going to suggest something, and feel free to disregard it but... If I was doing this I would maybe get a small notepad and keep the list to 5 or 10 things tops and be sure to write them down every evening. No wanking about, no dwelling on it too long. Keep it on the bedstand and make it the last thing I do before going to sleep. Then I could also wake up and be reminded of the 5 things from yesterday.

Ambitions, goals, desires... Striving....
Even though philosophy is dumb... I'm still inclined to name-drop Schopenhauer.
The podcast Philosophize This! has two episodes on him (episode 98 and 99).
I'm not going to tell you to listen to them, but it's an hour total and you might find it interesting even if philosophy is dumb.
I have listened to all episodes twice over the years.... I like it..

Like cognitive therapy I guess. Isn't that what that's supposed to do as well?

I imagine it's like physical exercise? Running isn't great the first number of times. You get better by improving over time. Not by running an ultra-marathon once a decade.
It's always harder to put in the work than to imagine the goal.. I know everything about excuses... There's always tomorrow...

I could probably convinced that it was a valuable exercise, but I'm not sure if I could convince myself that it would be valuable to me, you know? Obviously I realise I'm not special and it would probably be a good exercise for me too..
I tried to think about things I was thankful for yesterday but my messed up brain followed everything with "even though you don't deserve it at all hurr durr".
So what was an exercise in gratitude became an exercise in talking myself down. Very uncool of me to treat me like that..
But anyways, that shouldn't stop you from doing it of course!

I listened to both episodes again today. You could listen to #99 and not lose much. But the TL;DL is that he basically had the idea of a hedonistic treadmill. Except a bit more pessimistic. Like, his base level was suffering and we are all restlessly striving for some goal we think will bring us happiness, but in reality it simply distracts us from the suffering momentarily.
He thought up something that was kinda similar to Buddhism without knowing about Buddhism. Or something like that.. You know, we suffer because of desires, so we should do away with desires to fix it. If I recall correctly.

Aren't all problems at their base philosophical? And even if your ideas are different to most it's not like they can't be challenged or improved by knowing more. If it is then you need to write it down and share it with us all!

Okay, I'm glad. Sometimes I try to help fix things that nobody was asking for help to fix.. And usually my fixing things is just incoherent after it has been through my mind a few times.

Woo! Short listed to the exclusive cloning club! Not that I doubt that the world could be better with a bit more of my attitude, but I can't imagine why I've left that impression on you. Most of my time of ponyville revolves around bumbling around saying crazy shit, haha.

I hope having to bare being wonderful and being a positive to this world and the people in it wouldn't leave you a cripple! Just make sure to stretch every day before you set out and make the world better with your presence!

I only really have one friend as well. It's generally me, college friend, dad, dad's friend, and sometimes Andrea and mom. Works great!

I'll make sure my pantry is stocked then haha.

I wouldn't expect you to know them. Cockroach Poker is a simple bluffing game with a deck of 64 cards of 8 suits that's practically guaranteed to be a hit with anyone who has a functional fun gland. Skull is another bluffing game but played very different with little discs with flowers and skulls you use for bidding. Both are cheap and quick to teach and play. You could check out a review for them if you wanna see how viable playing them is with the people at your disposal! It's totally worth making the hobby happen if you have even 1 other player at your disposal (I could recommend a lot of great 2p games!)

Sorta! We made a lot of friends on the way up! They just happened to be in the picture here by coincidence though. We were cheerleading each other up the whole way to the top and they were really swell people, from New York on a 10 day tour of California.

We made a boatload of friends like this as we all struggled to the top, it was really awesome and some of those people really bailed us out because we ran out of water and they were able to filter some from the waterfall for us! The social aspect of that climb might have been my favorite part.

Pretty much CBT yeah.

>you don't deserve it
Yeah I get what you mean. It's hard to be grateful when you're not used to it.

I'm not really against philosophy. I just think it's needlessly abstract. If your goal is to create happy homosapiens, then I think psychology is a better place to turn. Rather than thinking about what 'should' or 'ought' to be it's better to start with the person and work from there.

I don't really agree with the Buddhist views on desire. It's a very fixed mindset. If we desire something we can find a way to satisfactorily work towards it. It may be hard, but the point is to refine ourselves and create a growth mindset. I don't think we should shy away from human nature either because we 'should' try to become something more 'pure'. We may be vulgar creatures at times, but that's only a problem if it isn't controlled. I think there is more to be gained by harnessing our own nature and directing it rather than being ashamed of it.

Funnily enough, a lot of research tends to suggest that those with growth mindsets are both happier and more successful.

I think that's essentially what Buddhism is actually all about though. I always thought it was about understanding that suffering we cause to ourselves and to others was the product of the very desires that are a part of our natures. And that the dharma or "the middle way" wasn't about pure denial of those desires, but more about mastering and redirecting them to be happier in our lives and better people to other people in the world.Like, the entire reason I thought it was called "the middle way" is because it's about moderation between total hedonism and total self denial, living life in a balanced way between the two extremes.

Bumbling crazy is what the world needs. Especially the loving kind of bumbling crazy.

It's a wonky tower and all I have to keep it from toppling over is silly string!

Man, stop poking holes in my excuses for not arranging social events that would probably be pleasurable for everyone involved!

Oh, do that! One of the dinnerdates could be you cooking too, that would be neat I'm sure!

I'm only used to poker with 4 suits, butq I guess it's a more fun version of poker because it has cockroaches and they are fun... Right?

I'll check them out on YouTube at some point this weekend.
A game I've been wanting to try is DnD... But I don't really know how to. I have been following the NADDPOD for... a long time at this point. Maybe I should just make a character for fun at some point.

I don't think I'm smart enough to outsmart my brain like that.. it basically has access to all the examples of me being horrible and it is doing a good job at keeping the evidence against that somewhere in the back of the filing cabinet.

Our itinerary was a bit too tight, but I guess we would have found that it was hard to find a campsite/room anyways then.

It's not a long drive. Love hiking in nature, I am slowly building a kit to do it more.

The pictures are nice, but it never really compares to reality!

Gratitude is hard...

Not all philosophy is "I think therefore I am"-levels..
Well, I mean, they aren't mutually exclusive, I think both can be useful.

I don't know, I'd like to just sit under a tree and help people who seek me out. I think Buddha had a pretty nice gig going.

I'm not really sure what a growth mindset entails.
Are they people who like gardening?

>>1085511
How heavy is a beam like that? Much too heavy to move by hand I imagine?

Yeah, it's nice to look at and it smells nice too!
I only now some parts. The rest I leave for nature to enjoy.

>motorbike
If you start more projects before finishing some of the ones you already have going I'm going to ride my motorbike to Sweden and bap you on the nose!

It was a pretty nice chair, yeah. It was called a Secret lab Titan I think? It was cloth instead of leather Which made it look more... Not so "GAMING!!!!"-like.

Jiggling could be interpreted as a dance?

Go you! You're definitely not a wuzzpuzz!

If they are being NOT GAY they get reported, that's the rule!

I just dislike this "I'm a big multinational company but I love you. Anon"-marketing that seems so prevalent these days. But sure, it's an indicator for things being better than they used to be.

That's a lot of families! Nice to see.

Anyways, it's been a fun thread but I think I'm going to take a step back and lay off the replies for a bit.
Not because I don't love you guys. But because you deserve more than my scatterbrain can muster in-between other things atm.
Love you all, have a nice weekend!

I'm not really going to claim to be an expert on Buddhism. But anyway I'm not personally into any kind of religion. I really don't want to start some religious debate tangent, but I don't believe that a healthy life outlook should be tied to some particular culture, mysticism or history.

>>1085582
If you find it personally interesting or though provoking I'm all for it and I do find it interesting in a casual sense. But personally I find better answers elsewhere.

A fixed mindset is the belief or focus on things that are predetermined or cannot be changed. For example believing that one's social class, IQ or natural talent might mean that they will never excel in a particular area. Think of how many people say "I'm not good at maths, or computers or art etc". Even the belief that one is good at something because they are naturally gifted is a fixed mindset.

A growth mindset is the belief that one is more in control of their own destiny. Regardless of where they find themselves in life they believe that through working hard and smart they can still achieve great things. It related to concepts like locus of control. An external locus of control is more or less the belief that one is the victim of their circumstance. The world is controlling them. An internal locus of control is the belief that one is able to control their own life. Again a lot of evidence points to people with an internal locus of control being happier and more successful.

This is why I dislike the whole 'suffering is inevitable and we must just accept it' attitude. Suffering is not inevitable if we choose to bounce back from setbacks and have hope for a longer term goal of whatever we want to achieve in life. We are not inherently suffering, we just 'are' our every day selves and whether we choose to interpret our situation as suffering, or pleasant, or temporarily suffering in the goal of reaching something pleasant is up to our own interpretation. Is the belief that one is suffering in anyway motivating or positive? Not to me. It pays to win and a good attitude only starts a positive feedback loop while a negative one starts a negative feedback loop (or technically a postive feedback loop in a negative direction).

I've been feeling pretty shit this week for multiple reasons. I'm not a paragon of the things I preach (quite the opposite but change is hard), but I do want to become better.

You've seen so many cool places! I don't know half of them but I bet that list represents a lot of great experiences.

I've been in some caves as a kid before, but probably not like you described. Very cool!

>>1085582
I guess loving bumbling crazy is pretty alright!

Problem solving is basically my job so I have a tendency to do that kind of thing haha

Yeah, I'd love to cook for everyone!

Yep, exactly~

Maybe I'll start a ponyville DnD? I'm sure at least a few people would be into that. I bet Andrea would!

There is something to that. I was able to defeat myself in a sense, and considering the absolute disaster in my psyche that took some clever maneuvering. I don't know shit about you but i highly doubt you are even slightly horrible. But I guess it doesn't help if i am convinced, you have to convince yourself of that. Hope you figure out how!

Thanks for chatting anon! I'm literally always scatterbrain so I didn't mind, haha.

oooh okay! that makes more sense XPP

it is, in fact it's so clear that most companies just throw a rainbow on their logo and call it a day. it's kinda painfully obvious. they can at least provide me some glitter COME ON!!!

so many nice families <3

oh yes! colorado is a natural wonderland as people call it. so you will never go wanting for a fun mountain experience. ^^

also, it's fun as a colorado native to see references in South Park that only people from Colorado would understand. It's like a local in joke on an otherwise massively known show XDD

The bit that gets me with the rainbow logo stuff is how the companies don't do it in countries where it isn't popular. I get that completely empty platitudes directed at whatever seems marketable is kindof the neolib company go-to strat, but when they make it so glaringly obvious how little they actually care, how they'd probably support ethnic cleansing if got more Chinese market share, well, it's a bit unnerving.

Yup. Only these weird internet zoomers bring it up and, I think I saw like 3 rainbow flags where they usually arent.
Thanks, reality checks.
