I'm a Spider, So What? is really good, along with Jujutsu Kaisen.
And Bad Batch just came out on Disney+, which is so far, excellent.

Well I was gonna say Owl House, but I guess you got that one on the list already.

 No.1082261

Moony, I think you would love Infinity Train. Each season is just over 90 minutes!

 No.1082263

Steven Universe/Future is completed since 2020, so that's good to binge.

Adventure Time is completed, though Distant Lands is slowly trickling in (in 2 weeks maybe the most hype entry).

Ducktales 2017 is done and it's probably in the top of the best shows on Disney.

Bojack Horseman is also a must-see to get through in your lifetime, that is now complete.

>>1082261
Infinity Train may be on my list to start soon, if I find the episodes.

>Puts on nerd glasses for the incoming textwall
>oh god help I put on the wrong ones

I mean it obviously depends on what you are looking for, but there have already been a bunch of great suggestions on here. I can definitely second She-Ra, Glitch Techs, Kipo, Infinity Train, Ducktales 2017 and Owl House. I'd probably add Amphibia to the list, as it is quite similar to Owl House in core premise, though it goes somewhere fairly different over time.

She-Ra would be great for if you want more of the pastel coloring and "sparkly" aesthetic you see in MLP while still being told a continuing story. There's 5 seasons, so it's a good binge.

Kipo is good for a three-season romp, so it's a decently short series. It has a great soundtrack, some really fun overall ideas for the various species Kipo and her friends meet, and just fairly unique style to it.

Ducktales 2017 is absolutely great. It uses everything that worked in the old show, scrubs away or reworks what kidn of didn't, tells long continuous stories, is genuinely hilarious and draws on history of Disney duck franchises from all over the world that no other american Disney animation has touched before. It's not afraid to shake things up where it needs to, but it all just works. So absoluetly a hell of watch, with some nostalgia to back it up without relying entirely on it.

Owl House and Amphibia are largely episodic and yes, very cute indeed, though they do advance and characters develop in slightly different ways than they normally would, which keeps things interesting. Both also have frequent bursts of pretty hilariously dark comedy akin to Gravity Falls.

Glitch Techs is VERY high energy. It's brilliantly animated and actionpacked, but the pace might be a bit too hectic for some in places, and while it's perfectly understandble without and not super egregious, it kind of assumes you know your way around popular games throughout gaming history and the memes surrounding them.

Infinity Train is an interesting one. I won'ts ay too much about the series in and of itself as it's definitely better experienced when you know little beyond the core premise. But every season stands alone, and clocks in at about 110 minutes. So at least watch the first season, treat it like watching a little movie, and consider if you wanna see the sequels. It's a dark show to be sure, though there IS brevity, and it touches quite a few interesting subjects regarding personal growth that I think you might appreciate.

 No.1082265

Oh
And Disenchantment is also pretty cool, definitely gets better when you follow it. But it's still waiting till the next season drops.

It's an animated podcast.
Interesting in particular if you're interested in spiritualism and especially Buddhism. Has a strong finale with the interview with the creator's mother as a terminal cancer patient.
But it's very surrealistically animated. It is hard to concentrate on both the conversation and the animation sometimes.

If you're not into the spiritual stuff they discuss, I would not recommend it.

At the start it's like "Bean is a princess, but she's not like other girls! Watch what shenanigans she gets into. With parodies of every trope in fantasy media."
But by later Season 1, they do try to to tell a story. While it still does jokes, it does get heavier in content and more serious in tone. Characters become less of a joke.

Which I think is always a thrill in a cartoon series.

Sorry, Moony, forgot I posted because I am a dumb.

I guess both cases are somewhat nostalgia related. I'm a fan of He-Man and Masters Of The Universe since a long time back and it's hard to live in this country to not have some level of attachment to Donald Duck and Ducktales. I remember watching original 80s Ducktales on TV with my parents back in the day.

Also back to She-Ra for a sec they really did a good job at making sure every character stands out and is fun to look at on screen. Especially fond of Entrapta and her tendancy to just use her hair as appendages and hands for expressions and stuff like that.

Well, the show tends to be about rather specific issues from season to season. There is always going to be a character going through a dilemma you aren't familiar with yourself. But give it a bit. It never stops being engaging as long as you allow yourself to understand where they are coming from.

I'm generally kinda bad at keeping up with cartoons. Most recent ones I've been watching is I decided to binge-watch Sonic Boom from a couple years back which is good if you just want silly self-referential humor for 11 minutes. Not really much of any major story arc but it makes me laugh.

Also making my way through Invincible right now which is very much NOT a fun feel-good cartoon for kids... Yikes

 No.1082521

>>1082520
Invincible is a superhero show, essentially about a teenage boy who is the son of his world's version of Superman, and who finally gets his powers and wants to be a superhero himself.

From there things go... not quite like how other superhero shows go.

It essentially both celebrates and deconstructs superhero genre by, yes, playing the tropes straight overall, but exploring what exactly the existance of superpeople might do to the world. Things like "what would it acutally look like if Superman punched something at full force", "What psychological effects would throwing yourself into a literal alien invasion despite having no combat experience actually have on someone regardless of wether or not they have powers" and "what shady shit would government shave to do to keep up with it all".

It's a VERY gory show, and things often go very, very badly for the main character - yet it still has an air of overall optimism and hope, most of the time. Or at least the comic did. The show changes some things from the comics, and I have not seen the full season myself yet.

But let's just say it absolutely can be fun an iteresting show, but it is not *~+FUNTIMES+~* excatly.

i ended up binge watching infinity train all the way through season 2, and into season 3. i am at the point where they do the ball room dance.

...i was so disillusioned by Season 2, because i felt like it lacked the sort of mystery figuring out that Season 1 had.

And then... it did. And then Season 3, i can see it setting up too.

what a unique show... but i still miss Tulip. i am glad though for the Season 2 ending, and that it was a happy ending, if ... mysterious.

If we're talking non-anime, i have suggestions, but i think our tastes in shows might be pretty different. I'll do my best to think of things you might like, tho! I guess i would want to know if you just want cute things that are fun, if you are looking for something a bit heavier, but more substantive emotionally, something low concept or high concept, if you're only looking for western animation or if anime works too, give me the rundown!

Star vs. the forces of evil definitely comes to mind. It's cute and colorful and not too heavy. I streamed that with my buds about a year back. Pretty good start to finish!

If you don't mind something a bit more cynical and sarcastic, i think dan vs. is SO funny. It's basically about this guy who spends his life getting unnecessarily frustrated at vague concepts that he feels (usually unreasonably an unnecessarily) have wronged him. He drags his one friend along for the ride, and they do these elaborate plans of Dan's to take down whatever dan has gotten mad at on that occasion!

If we're talking anime that's more cute and fluffy, my main reccomendations would be azumanga and midori days.

Azumanga is like the magic the gathering of CGDCT shows. There are many that try to immitate it, it came to define a genera, it stands the test of time! It's cute and funny and wholesome and has great humor!

Midori days is a silly rom com where a delinquent fighter with a secret soft side and no luck in romance one day wakes up to find that his hand has been replaced with a girl who has been his secret admirer for a long time. It's nonsensical, but it's super cute and wholesome. I do vaguely recall you not liking romance all that much tho? In which case, yea, maybe not for you.

Anyway, if you give me more details about what you're looking for, i can give you better recommendations!

I've already watched most of the cartoons in this thread (dear lord She-Ra Moony please watch She-Ra immediately), and I have to add Over the Garden Wall. It's quite short, beautifully animated and written, and has this comfy vibe that feels like you're inside of an old folk tale. a 100 year old cottage in the woods... with a front yeard for sipping tea. it sounds wonderful, hawkeye. it sounds incredible.

peace is good, for the soul! good for times that might be scary and exciting. i should wish to ask you sometime, about your adventures and journey, dear friend.

i have been okay! i am still working at the new firm... i am at my... third year? it is a very intense job, and it has a very high turnover because of its demanding hours, and extremely high pressure... i am the third senior most attorney, after just three years, in an office of sixty.

But, it is rewarding! i do asylum and VAWA work, so i get to do my best... helping very vulnerable people. of that, i am certainly grateful. maybe, for my transition year someday, i shall go off and do these things on my own, in my own way.

Cartoony update!

i am more than half way through the season of Owl House, and i am super, super smitten

i think it is great. i love all the characters so far, though gus is a bit grating

i especially like how the relationship between luz and amity seems to be developing.

they are so cute... the blushing is the cutest part. luz is pretty great too all around

hm... infinity train

Season 1 remains my favorite, and i still miss the characters and dynamic of the first season

i found Season 2 impressive once it got going, and was very shocked and interested in Season 3.

i am a bit through Season 4, and so far, am not so impressed - even though the situation is much more relatable to me, and even directly applicable to me, i have not found it as compelling and wish we could have focused on a certain turtle and woman instead

i will slowly finish season 4, and hope it picks up like season 2

i will say, my favorite infinity train season is 1, then 3, then 2, then 4. 1 is far away my favorite. 3 is slightly better than 2, because 2 took so long to pick up steam. and 4, so far, is perplexingly tame in comparison

that said... allen dracula is so great of a character, and is my favorite companion so far. but, i also loved tuba. 11 and atticus are great, too.

the best side character though, in general, is the cat. the cat has been fascinating in every single season so far. ..then hazel. i love hazel.

So... The thing about Season 4...

Owen Dennis, the creator of Infinity Train, always wanted a total of eight season (due to 8 looking like an Infinity Symbol), but the shows production has been troubled. Season 3 was released on HBO MAX due to its darker content, and for the longest time we didn't even know for sure whether or not we were getting a Season 4 at all... And when it did drop it was declared to be the final season, unless someone else picks it up or it somehow gets renewed.

Owen and his crew already have a Full script for Season 5, and it would indeed have answered a lot of questions still lingering and focused on some of the things you're aKing for. But they were told of the cancelation a good chunk into production of Season 4.

Season 4 was never meant to be as strong as the three that came before it. It was supposed to be a breather. A softer, less high stakes story to function as an intermission between two heavier ones.

Lord knows if we will ever get to see the rest Owen had planned, but this is just to say that this really isn't the crew's fault. Someone else pulled the plug at a point where they were basically warming up for something bigger.

I understand Japan has a very stressful and somewhat sexist professional environment.

How are things at Denmark btw?
Still the lovely, small and friendly country everyone loves to visit?

>>1088825

That is explicitly implied on the show.
About the sexism, I was not sure whether this was being an isolated case or an allegory to a japanese social problem. Since Sexism at workplace does not seem to be a problem here.

I don't want to make a separate thread about it.
But do people in the US know about Studio Xilam cartoons?
(Zig and Sharko / Oggy and the cockroaches / The Daltons /...)

It's a shame as I was digging for reviews on youtube, I can only dig up very small channels attempting to remember these.

I know of Oggy and the cockroaches, Paprika, but have never actually seen either of them. Then again, i might not be the best one to answer this as i don't really watch much TV.

Oggy and the Cockroaches is hilarious, and you know I at least have SOME knowledge of french/belgian animation since animation based on their comics (and the comics thesmelves) are very popular here. I haven't actually seen any of The Daltons, but plenty of the other Lucky Luke stuff. The 2000s movie "Go West", animated by some of the Oggy folks, is absolutely hysterical.

It's part Belgian as well?
I know Xilam is French and all.

I found that a Oggy / Zig and Sharko and Daltons were a lot on children's broadcast over here. I found the quality of the cartoons top shelf.

I probably should find more time to watch their other stuff / just watch the stuff I know consistently.

But it's always nice to hear what others think about those shows/movies. It has its own style.

Oh, no, I just meant to refer to both French and Belgian properties.
