What do you do to motivate/push yourself when you *must* do something but would rather do literally anything else?

 No.1071131

The trick is to do the thing as a way of procrastinating on something else entirely.

That's my energy! Basically what's gonna happen pretty soon anyway. Was hoping to avoid stress if i could.

 No.1071134

I'd be a hypocrite if I pretended to have some functional advice, but at the end of the day some things gotta get done regardless of motivation, and some things gotta fall through the cracks if you want to stay sane.

for me, i have a method that works about 70 percent of the time, and it's called "rip off the bandaid"

i know what i want/need to do, but i'm not doing it, well most of the time it's just a matter of starting, so i must rip off the bandaid, i.e. just getting started

once i get started, i find it's easier to maintain my momentum and i get things done

but sometimes i peter out really quick, and that's usually okay ^^

but if you just get used to starting, ripping the bandaid off, you start to see more production!

and that's okay!

the japanese have a philosophy called Kaizen which means "continuous improvement"

they believe that what's the most important is forming the habit of doing instead of what you produce in a single sitting. if you have a habit that allows you to create, then over time you will make something, even if it's only in small incriments

so think about it, you sit down, write a sentence, and then stop

then you do it again the next day, then the next day, then the next day

eventually, it will feel weird NOT to write. it will be second nature, and if you are compelled to write, you will in time write more and more ^^

Ironically, i'm great at managing my time and tasks. This is just overwhelmingly difficult work for me this time.

I appreciate the words, though i only have basically tonight to finish this. Think more essay due than writing a novel.

>>1071149
I do know what you mean. If it were a matter of effort, i'd make it. But i've pretty much no clue how to properly complete this assignment and little recourse for that. HMMMMM Innnnnnterestink

Well I mean when I make a video someone has to watch it to spot mistakes (loose frames, typos, etc). Apparently I have managed to do so in one go the last three times, wheee

Name of the Rose is a murder mystery set in a monastery inb the 1300s, starring Sean Connery and a very young Christian Slater. Monks are turning up dead, seemingly all after reading a particular book at the monastery's restricted library. It's basically a (very dark) Sherlock Holmes story set in the dark middle ages, with the literal structure of society itself impeding the investigation.

Melody Time is one of the anthology films Disney made in the late-forties/fifties sometime after the war. Seven little shorts based on music by various popular artists at the time. This is where Disney shorts like "Little Toot" and "Johnny Appleseed" came from.

>>1071154

Christian SLATER. Not Bale.

No. But they are from another movie from the same era.
More specifically, José was introduced in a segment in a film called "Saludos Amigos", essentially a set of shorts based on South America (with footage of the Disney Animators visiting the country as wraparound), and he does appear in a segment in "Melody Time". Panchito didn't show up until the movie CALLED Three Caballeros.

Yeah that guy. He's like 17 here. He's also one of like... maybe four people in the entire movie who don't look like they got beaten with the Count Orlock stick. It's called "The best movie with the ugliest cast" for a reason.

I mean it is a bit clunky all around. But yeah. I still need to actually watch Three Amigos. Melody Time was nice though, but it's certainly more interesting as individual shorts than as an anthology film, if that makes sense.

Pick one

A lot of them are like, clearly old and ragged, Ron Perlman plays a very physically deformed and mentally challenged hunchback, several of them have other physical handicaps... it's quite the sight.

It's more that there's just really very little structure  to it. Like aside from all of them being performed by contemporary artists, there's very little in terms of a shared theme, or even similar art styles or anything. It's just seven shorts in a row with a brief introduction. Saludos Amigos at least has them all be about South America in some way, and Fantasia has all of it b eing classical music  and being one of the first of its kind and quite experimental going for it.

Find something else to procrastinate on. Procrastinate on that. It's amazing what high functioning procrastinators can accomplish in the process of avoiding doing the thing they're supposed to be doing.

About the only time i get anything done is when theres a task im avoiding so hard that i get other overdue stuff done in order to procrastinate it.

I never get motivated under those circumstances.
That's why it always comes back to bite me in the bum... And it's a constant pain.
There's one thing that should be coming to bite me right about now...

Actually I have found an excellent strategy for this. I invite over a friend or lover, or go to their place, and I do it while they offer encouragement and moral support.

today I have invited 3 people over to study clinical psychology for the exams with me.

I've laid out beanbags and teddies and soft pillows, coffee and snacks. It's gonna be cozy.

And don't worry, we all tested negative, and we're all socally isolating outside the study group, (except for Lasse, but okay)

Well, I am waiting for a colleague to finish a VO for me and I like won't get that till the evening so I can't do the video till tomorrow anyway. So I think I am jus tgonna do what I haven't done in a little while and just record a bunch of spooky gameplay, and late rfinish a commish I have lying around.

that sounds like a super great plan!

I hope you enjoy playing the scary games

 No.1071397

>>1071396
I do, I really do. I enjoy spooky stories in general, and playing these smaller-studio / DIY horror games is so fun to me, cause I get to see the wild ideas people come up with at home that'd never make it into Triple-AAA titles. In exchange for things being super polished sometimes, sure, but it's very interesting to me, and I like recording my reactions, my thoughts and what feedback I can give (keeping in mind I am NOT a dev  myself and just try to do so from a player perspective).

I mean no one watches 'em sure, but eh, it keeps me active.

 No.1071398

Huh, that honestly does sound really cool. You upload these to fiction addiction?

 No.1071399

No, I have a secondary Let's Play channel. It's almost only horror games at this point. Longer format games I just play on Twitch and save the VOD as a highlight.

>>1071384
I never get motivated under any circumstances! Given the option, i'd do nothing every day the rest of my life. Being awake is already exhausting enough.

>>1071385
I've never met a person that could be relied on for that nor would i think it be helpful. An accountability buddy is nice, but encouragement and moral support are worse than nothing to me.

Already did it, but what it was was a self and team evaluation. Hate having to account for who did what, who deserves what credit, who deserves what blame all while being mindful that they are writing something about you. It's kinda political, even though it shouldn't be. I remember once in this class i did more than most in that group but i was really humble in my review. Well, clearly the others weren't because my professor gave me a C+ while everyone else got much better grades. A dude i had split most of the work with got an A+. Distasteful work if you ask me.

>Really? How so?
For starters, i don't lack for anything that would provide me. I have an abundance of self confidence and my emotional needs are well taken care of already.

But it would be detrimental in the sense i would feel less stress and pressure to perform and that  pressure is one of the few things i can harness to act on disagreeable tasks.

>>1071419
>That's messed up
In my experience, that's what i can expect from people most of the time. I don't think people are universally awful or anything, just self serving and ready to throw you under the bus when it's convenient for them.
