You need examples of what is ok, what is ok with permission, and what is not ok.  I don't believe for a second that anyone is asking for permission on the things that they post.

I also want to hop on this.

Do I need permission to link my art streams? To share videos I've done?

 No.1895

>>1894 according to the rules, yes, which is stupid.

 No.1896

Just post your stuff. You aren't gonna get banned for sharing your art and videos. Unless you are actually asking for money, and no YouTube monetization isn't the same as directly asking for money, you'll be fine.

Gotcha.

And one last question to cover my ass, if I'm accepting donations through my streams (which is just optional, I'm not demanding it), is that still cool to just go "Hey everyone I'm streaming come hang out"?

 No.1898

>>1897
I don't think there is any problem with that. Just make sure your post here doesn't mention seeking donations and you'll be fine. Just how you worded it is great.

This should be specified in the rules.

i thought the colloquial understanding of "advertising" was for the sake of monetary gain.

if the wording really bothers that much, we can change it to be very focused on that aspect of the definition.

But i will forewarn that if changing the rule does lead to any kind of community trouble that we reserve the right to immediately change things back.

would that suffice, sailboat? i am especially worried of other communities coming in to snipe users, or spam our board without us having a rules based means to respond.

...you must remember... many of these older rules were written in more dangerous times, let's say.

>This should be specified in the rules.
Why?  You just got clarification from the site staff that it's okay for people to post their videos.  That clarification should carry the same weight as the text of the rules.  And, at least in my opinion, that is the most natural reading of the text of the rule anyway.

 No.1903

>>1901  I post videos.  I stream.  If you watch one of my videos or watch a stream, and if you aren't using AdBlock, and if you happen to watch an ad, then I might get a tiny bit of money as a result.  pennies.  at best.

The thing that annoys the shit out of me is that other people's videos get a pass.  Videos made by people who MAKE A LIVING MAKING VIDEOS AND OFF THEIR CHANNELS are fine here.  According to the letter of your rules, people should be asking permission any time they post one of these videos.  Yet people post them all the time obviously without asking for permission.

According to the letter of the rules, MY videos are also not ok by default, but unlike everyone else, I'm actually following the rules.  I personally might possibly make a few pennies off of my videos, so I have a vested monetary interest in people watching them, even if I don't make a living doing so.  because I am "advertising" my work, my channel, and myself, and "profiting" from doing so.

I don't see your point -- they can also change the rules at any time.

 No.1905

>>1904  In one case, I'm intentionally breaking the rules and just counting on not being punished for it.  In the other, I'm posting within the rules.  It's that simple.

But can't you see that the advertising rule is ambiguous and your interpretation is only one possible interpretation of it?

If the site staff explain to you how they interpret the rules, shouldn't you consider their interpretation to be binding?

Would it also be possible to mark an entire thread as NSFW, like on Ponychan?  That way, people can have designated lewd threads that can be completely hidden away when browsing the site on Prude Mode.

And a bridge, i got one of those to sell too.
