So I had a pretty neat experience this morning
.
I had to go on a long train ride. As always, I bring some reading materials and my sketchbook. Soon enough I'm doodling, more specifically Candace and Stacy from Phineas and Ferb. Not really anything special, just doodles of them doing random stuff.

At the last stretch of the trip, I notice two boys standing near my seat. I am Not good at gauging age, but probably in the 10-12 years range. So I take off my headphones and address them. They say I'm good at drawing, I thank them. So far vrything is just nice and pleasant. Not th first time somethin like this has happened

But this is where things get a little different from usual.

Because all of a sudden, there were like six more kids. I'm guessing they were a class on a trip or something. They recognize the characters. They all seem quite impressed. One girl asks if I'm a youtuber too (I have no idea why she would ask that as a first thing, but it IS true). I answer yes, and before I can clarify that I am SUPER small (5K subs) and make very nerdy English language content she probably wouldn't care about, she actually lets out a movie-styl fangirl-esque squeal. Earpiercin stuff, but it's well meaning.

They tell their teacher/Guardian/whatever she is, and I end up having to hurriedly explain to her that no, I am not some kind of celebrity or big time professional, I just draw a lot and do it on long train rides and make videos at home.

At this point, I have to get off, and the kids actually say shit like "bye art/Youtube man", only half jokingly. I am a bit sad that this all happened like five minutes before my stop and I had a new sketchbook with me with barely any drawings at all. I don't mind showing them off when people ask on the occasions where people chat me up about it in public, and from my outdoor art sessions for town fairs and the classes I teach, I've found that kids react positively to all the cartoon/game Fanart I draw, and just the notion of me knowing som of this stuff in general. Adults that care about most any cartoon shows/games are, apparently, still rare around here, so it's exciting to them.

And the whole thing just made me think.

Now, The point of this story is not "funny thing happened" or "kids dunno anything". The point is, even if you don't think highly of your own work as a creative - you see it with very different eyes than most. Others will consider what you do fucking MAGIC.

A lot of you know me that and that I have a really bad tendency to.. .well, not consider myself very good. Hell, I feel like I missed the bus most of the time and as if any random sixteen year old on twitter is worth ten me's or I am just psychologically Incapable of Improvement, of creating or of achieving anything in life.

Basically, I am not kind to me.

But still, just from doodling some cute characters from a cartoon I like, I probably brightened about ten kids' day considerably. Because to them, I have some crazy kind of magic power that materializes drawings out of nothing.
And I remember thinking similarly a while back when I saw a dude writing music notes on his iPad and realizing I couldn't begin to comprehend how he was doing it, even if I could tell he was writing music.

Your/our work is magical to many, many more people than the one grumpy troll sitting around nitpicking at it all the time and telling you to stop trying.

I won't  instantly learn this like some big lifechanging epiphany in one sweep.

But today it made me smile.

Yeah, that was a lot of sap, I know. But uh, for th sake of threads and conversations:

What are some out of nowhere wholesome moments you've experienced?

Glad to know this train travel was different from the other in a positive way, Esh.

I have considered you a good artist, not doubt you are levels above me, perhaps you should take this little expecience as a beginning to give some credit to yourself a bit more, just saying.

So, earlier today, I finally had a little time to kill. And with this encounter still in mind, I pretty much felt I HAD to finish the doodles that caused this happy little moment.

I did also doodle ISabella from the same show, but that wasn't on the train, and I didn't finish that one earlier. Still, here's Candace...
