Howdy there pones.
I have noticed that we have art threads, story threads music threads, heck even nice cool voice threads.
Also people have been sharing some pretty nature photos lately so i thought:
how about something new?
cameras in phones getting better and better and better with some cool settings. Why not take this opportunity for a small weekend challange?
People whom are educated photographers could help pin point newbies and what not or not it´s a free idea of a thread.
we have a entire weekend ( we can adjust the "rules" later on ) to take some photos and then we can upload it on that sunday?

Thank you. shall be interesting to see more pitch ideas and the first "task"
to be shot ><

Do we have educated photographers?
In any case, sounds like fun. I'll definitely snap a few images as long as the category isn't "selfies"!

i unno if we have. but we have many talented people in this village. i would not be surprised if one or two photographers lurked around
im not gonna promote selfies, since im will NEVER join that category, could be nature, moving objects, catching different lights. stuff like so

I paid a bunch of money on my camera, but frankly, my cell phone gets me better pictures.
Funny thing, I'll be out with the kids tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I will get to touch the camera as they'll likely be running around with it all the time.

I'm asking my sister for some tips right now. She took some classes and actually had a license at one point. If she gets back to me before the weekend is over, I'll post them.

Ah, I guess I was mistaken. She said she hasn't taken classes.
I suppose I assumed she did because she was really good and had some of her art hung up in a few salons.

Do not make it a competitive thing.
If I were to post things, I know it will likely be a catastrophal failure and I don't want my nose rubbed into it like a puppy's into a puddle of foul smelling feces.

I would hope no one here would put people down like that. Art is art, it's subjective.
But it is fun to kind of say "ooh that one's my favourite!"

60C isn't immediately fatal actually. not 12 months ago I had to walk around in that. Downed 2 500ml bottles of water on my 400m walk to the food court through a sandstorm. was fun.

it wasn't. I was being sarcastic. A sandstorm is brutal in and of itself. braving 60F heat at the same time, and all because the brass didn't want to let us have food at our tents? not fun. definitely the opposite of fun. Did I mention I drank two entire water bottles

I did get to use my camera. But I don't consider it appropriate to bring them in this thread where people actually have been so very skillfull so far to tear down the level here with my sad attempts.
Maybe I'll keep them for a random moment in the future.
But...why? I don't think skill level matters.
I just took random freakin pictures of pretty trees.

this is NOT a competition!
just a small motivating way to go outside/ inside and take picture to learning something new.

go and catch something beauty with that camera of yours!

Thanks! This is only a 20 minute walk away from my house, so I’m planning to head down today and hopefully get a few daytime pictures.
It was built between the 7th century and 1163.
ah i see. Very neat!

Interesting, some older lenses. I have a Tamron 500mm f/8 mirror lens I use for astrophotography. I've done some wildlife with it, but it's awfully slow.
Good luck experimenting. :)

I have this one while I was at a Renaissance thing, though. It was a really fun event.

Well, keep in mind, this was with my old phone that had a camera that rivaled most standard off-the-shelf cameras.
I believe it was a Lumia 1020. Camera just straight up juts off the thing. It was great.
Sadly, the screen broke, so I had to get a new one. It's a bit out of date by now, anyway.
I mostly have photos of things I had picked up, and wanted to show people. Some threadstarters, often enough. Good times. Hard to believe that was something closing on six years ago, though.
ah i see, well if still out of date. one can toy with setting,no?

Used to be able to, when I had it. Best part was, there were apps that let you really take it to the next level.
I never really did that much with them, though. Mostly because photos tended to be a more 'in the moment' thing for me.

They seem rather uncommon around here. Not sure why, maybe they're just really hard to spot. Mantises are one of my favorite bugs, though.
Looking through this stuff, I'm reminded of all the interesting photos I got from just in my car. Maybe I ought to get a small one to keep in there, for these neat random events.

This one I can tell is stopped down -- not wide open, or as bright as possible. You can see hexagons in the out-of-focus region, the shape is formed by the aperture blades. You'll see it if you look through your lens as you change the aperture ring setting.

Sounds cool. In gadgets the high-fail parts are what moves, getting rid of the mirror movement (and perhaps the mechanical shutter) will increase reliability. You could do time-lapse with less worry.>vlogger recoder
And sometimes I think it'd be nice to use my fancy lenses for video (although that's a whole new area to learn).

My interest is in the best value, I guess, with a focus on small animal portraits and astrophotography (also interested in optical science). I like to wait until stuff cycles into the used market, 4-10 years old, but it's not usually vintage like you're looking at. I don't have much storage space, so my plan is to restrict to lenses that see heavy use. Perhaps as a tie-in with history, vintage lenses could be interesting in their own right.

The picture is pretty cool. I just lift most from derpibooru (https://derpibooru.org/632992?q=camera%2Csafe
), so credit to the artist there.
I'm excited to check whether I can get the expected sharpness with mine. With bidding sites, usually persistence pays off, sometimes auctions ending at weird times or something can some in under the mean.
Perhaps I should do a write-up of my equipment experience. My experience has reflected the reviews I read before buying the stuff, so I have little new to add (at least if the soft images from the mirror lens is operator error).
If space weren't an issue, if I had a garage and a yard or something, I think getting into grinding your own telescope mirrors could be fun. But that's not really practical for me now. What I can work with is algorithms for processing images.

yea. again ive never dared to bid in things that´s outside my country reach. so ive been lurking and seeing some cool lenses that i might lurk at
that´s a wise thing to do.
as for now i lurk the auctions, see a lens. Hop onto youtube and see what people say about it.
However im starting to feel over whelmed with all zoom lenses. so maybe i should write some stuff down ( and lable the cases so i can start to learn which work with what )>grinding your own telescope mirrors could be fun.
i have deep respects for you.
i would never dare to do such a thing

>For credit the link and artist!
Oh, no problem.
>never dared to bid in things that´s outside my country reach.
Shipping's cheaper that way, I expect.
>im starting to feel over whelmed with all zoom lenses.
Over time, I think, a person finds their niche, then tunes their equipment to it. When I started, I shunned zoom lenses, figured for a range of focal lengths engineers would have to compromise on any given focal length, plus the cost would be higher. I never really checked the claim, though, so am not putting it forward as true. I got my first zoom a month or two ago. Only complaint so far, if you tilt it up or down, gravity causes it to zoom in or out on its own, so you have to hold it in place sometimes.
>i would never dare to do such a thing
Well, I've not done it either.

wow! is that snow i see on that mountain back there? you already have snow on the peaks?
Yup! The snow here rarely goes away. We're actually a bit short on snow this year. The snow bank that supplies the creek on our property is all dried up.
You're welcome to come visit sometime if you'd like. Our cabin can sleep like 30 people potentially, and most of the time nobody is up.
