Hello everyone

It's another week and that means another theme. This time Games Done Quick is doing their week long event so let's enjoy the fun by playing games and doing things way too fast for comfort.

Or we can just sit and mingle with our favorite drink, that's nice too.

So, for a week now I'm having an argument with someone at work over the use of Office programs like Excel or Access.

He is pointing out that people shouldn't use Office programs, but would benefit from setting up their own databases and design their own apps in Visual Studio/Java to replace Office functionalities.

Can't seem to convince him that your average user or office worker can't just set up and manage databases let alone know how to develop good apps on the go.
> Anyone who can work with a computer can do that
Jeez, I feel kind of inadequate.

To be fair, I know about databases and can run a bit of SQL, I never set up a private database for myself yet.

Wouldn't know where to start.
I take that if you know where to do that it's not too hard.

Though my view on development after reading a few things is that it's not at all easy to do right without solid experience. So to be confident in that, I think you're gonna need to invest plenty of time in it. Might pay off in the end, maybe.
But I don't think you can force that on people.

Sounds like a Linux sorta guy that needs to have his hands on every knob.  Some of us get every bit of functionality we need out of stuff other people have already made.  It would be a complete waste of time to write up a whole new program just for the sake of personalization.

Sounds like someone making excuses for not being able to use Excel.

If you love to play with computers sure, just like if you like to sit around for days building cars.  But if you want to actually get any work out of a computer, then you jump in a car thats ready to drive.

I think "don't reinvent the wheel" is probably all the time you should waste on that guy.  You're not getting any of that time back.

I would whine aobut not being able to afford either, but uh... I have a TON of new games to play lately, so I have no right to complain. Plus, I can wait for RE2. I usually only play horror games with my friend anyway, and we're gonna take a session to play some of the RE7 DLC later this month, so I'm good for now.

Too bad, I have already judged. Though you'll be happy to know I'm okay with it. Luigi's Mansion has been a lot of fun and it sounds like a good game to play. Besides if you're worried about me judging just pick up any Call of duty and then we'll see what I think

 No.902119

>>902118
I fucking LOVE the original Luigi's Mansion. REally need to regain some Gamecube controllers so I can play it again. And I really enjoyed Dark Moon on 3DS.

I just always admired Nintendo's sheer gonads on that one. A launch title focusing on Luigi in a COMPLETELY different style of Gameplay than the standard Mario platformer, giving Luigi his very own archnemesis and skillset.  They could have VERY easily had Luigi go through a platforming game to save Princess Daisy and nobody would've complained, but nope. They made it a LUIGI game. Not a Mario game where you play as Luigi. And that's friggin fantastic.

Plus it's just fun, the boss fights are super imaginative, all the little survival horror moments are either hilarious parodies or actually pretty low-key spooky for younger players to get a taste for the genre... I just think they're great games.

...I should really draw Luigi busting ghosts one of these days shouldn't I.

Yeah, you'll never catch me dead with Call of Duty. Or most any war FPS really.

Hahaha wow Eshie went on the green train with Mr. L and he's holding up the Boo plushie to prove it.

I agree though it was a fun idea and something different and unique to it's own. Plus it does show Luigi is still a scaredycat but can still do what needs to be done. Though I still need to play Dark Moon. I'm glad I still have my Gamecube copy

Granted I'll play some FPS's but only if they have proven they have a good story and gameplay, not a big fan of the giant multiplayer shoot them all with micro fleecing it's become

 No.902122

>>902121
Dark Moon has the inherent problem of the title no longer making sense since you move between locations in a "mission" format. The locations themselves are still excellent and the game is fun as hell (and there's none of the element-gathering and constant backtracking to pick up more that does plague the original game somewhat), but it does rob it a little of the survival horror feel. That's on e reason I am excited about the idea of Luigis Mansion 3 possibly taking place in a hotel. Seems a cool way to have it both ways, since each set of floors can potentially have its own themes, or individual rooms can be their own little challenge without ever leaving the one core location. Plus, you know, haunted hotels are a pretty big trope.

Myeah, closest I get to FPS gaming is that I have enjoyed the BIoshock and Fallout games, and what with VATs in the latter, well...
Oh, I guess I also played a fair amountb of L4D when that was new.

Well I guess I can kinda understand that since a mobile game you want to be able to do it in segments and not a huge drawn out story.
Still the idea of a haunted hotel with luigi. that does sound fun. Be even more interesting if it takes notes from Super Mario Sunshine with the haunted Del Pino hotel

I don't actually watch an awful lot of LPs. I might with Jared.

I was actualyl afraid I wouldn't like him much when I first found him, cause at first glance he reminded me of the arrogance I grew to find annoying in Spoony. The "I am the CORRECT kind of nerd and therefore smarter and better than everybody cause I played PC games and D&D" attitude he grew to have later. I was happy to find this isn't true as I watched more of Jareds stuff.
