Ho boy. Haven't posted here in a year or two. Still see some familiar faces here.

On another note. I've been thinking recently. When it comes to careers. Would you rather do something you love? Or something you hate but for a lot of money?

 No.883590

I'd rather not starve chasing a passion, but beyond that, I'm okay with making a bit less for a job I can live with myself doing.

Understandable. Currently im in this situation. The money and the environment is not bad. I love it. But there's more profitable fields I could be doing in my line of work.

I'm currently a service technician. I just do basic maintenance on cars. I could go for something like diesel tech or something in the auto insurance. I also need to get started on college. I want to get into more depth in engine building and auto engineering.

Diesel techs can make anywhere from 60 to six figures depending on who you work with. But I love my job and my coworkers. I'm thinking about what path I want to take. For now im just coasting

I just keep telling myself I'll get there some day.

Something I love. Money is not that hard to come by, honestly. At least, if you're okay with a simple lifestyle.
I'd rather do something I enjoy, and maybe have to work a bit extra at it, than do something I hate. Ultimately, if you hate your job, you'll be forced to find other means of coping, which'll mean more money spent anyway.

When you put it that way. I totally wouldn't wanna live that way. Blowing your hard earned money just trying to coupe with yourself. Yikes!

 No.883772

I'm actually taking a course on this right now. There's three things you look for in a career. Skills, values, and preferences. Money isn't what you look for, it's just what you need. A job does need to pay you enough before you can pursue it, and there's no point in chasing your passion if it's paying you nothing. But if you find something that pays enough, you should try to make sure it blends your skills, values, and preferences. If you find a job like this, you will be successful, and you may end up getting more money, and living a happier life. And at the end of the day, you're not going to regret not getting a car, or not earning a nice house. You're going to regret not spending time with your family.

Funneh

It sounds like I'm trying to just be reomantic, but the former - but at least to a comfortable level.

I don't need to be filthy rich. But it would be nice to reach some point in my life where I Don't have to walk around being ashamed of myself for going to the city, could go to the theater on a whim, have a feeling like saving up for a cool thing was actually an option and ever go on anything resembling a vacation. Just now and then.

But I'm too shitty to earn money, so that's unlikely.

Heyo! Welcome back!

>When it comes to careers. Would you rather do something you love? Or something you hate but for a lot of money?

Definitely something I love. I've already done the 'something I hate for a lot of money', and it almost destroyed my life.

That being said, you gotta strike a balance somewhere.

I got a new job about two years ago and have been steadily moving up in that ladder to slightly better positions that are just a little less stressful and hard and my body. I'm in a position now where I don't mind the work, and I love my co-workers. We all try very hard to make it a team effort while also having some pretty good shenanigans.

Now that said, if someone came along and offerred me a dream job of working with cheetahs or something? Fuck yes I'm going ro take it. But it would be hard to leave my coworkers, and I would probably come back to visit them a lot.

I'd probably won't kill innocent people or semi innocent people or perform feats of acrobacy, even if it payed exuberantly much.

I would do volunteer stuff if I found the time and all the other stuff is taken care for. I would not do something I love for "work" if it means it gets to be free and I can't pay my bills.
