Ho boy. Haven't posted here in a year or two. Still see some familiar faces here.

On another note. I've been thinking recently. When it comes to careers. Would you rather do something you love? Or something you hate but for a lot of money?

I'd rather not starve chasing a passion, but beyond that, I'm okay with making a bit less for a job I can live with myself doing.

File: 1544079399945.jpg (9.92 KB, 200x200, 1:1, how_to_train_ur_dragon_too….jpg) ImgOps Exif Google

Understandable. Currently im in this situation. The money and the environment is not bad. I love it. But there's more profitable fields I could be doing in my line of work.

How profitable? What line of work are we talking?

File: 1544079694421.png (102.45 KB, 282x308, 141:154, Silly smiling dragon.png) ImgOps Google

I'm currently a service technician. I just do basic maintenance on cars. I could go for something like diesel tech or something in the auto insurance. I also need to get started on college. I want to get into more depth in engine building and auto engineering.

Diesel techs can make anywhere from 60 to six figures depending on who you work with. But I love my job and my coworkers. I'm thinking about what path I want to take. For now im just coasting

How long have you been there?

File: 1544079887982.jpg (853.66 KB, 1920x1200, 8:5, 2-wallpaper6073.jpg) ImgOps Exif Google

About 6 months now

That's not very long.

I'm in a similar situation, and I'm waiting until 18 or 24 months to make any such. Until then, I'm just enjoying a for-once stable place in my lift.

File: 1544080205688.jpg (23.52 KB, 500x311, 500:311, 4179169.jpg) ImgOps Exif Google

Yeah, I know. But I suppose im just looking ahead into the future. For now just keep coasting. What line of work do you do anon?

File: 1544080214223.jpg (34.63 KB, 630x350, 9:5, 21-setsuna-is-back-630x350.jpg) ImgOps Exif Google

I'm doing something I love and squeaking by most of the time.

I just keep telling myself I'll get there some day.

I basically have to do that on a our work vehicles. But we have someone who is a fully qualified diesel mechanic in another life. Super helpful. If you go that way I hope you enjoy it.

Auxiliary medical staff.

I want to leave this place and advance and stuff. I do have some semblance of a plan for myself, but for now the rest and consistency is more welcome than anything.

File: 1544080717259.png (262.07 KB, 451x257, 451:257, a4d819f2fe9dd8f1a5a677e371….png) ImgOps Google

Oh nice, so you kind of get what im feelin no?

That's the spirit.

I think the best option for end goals is just to set a personal list. "what can I do today or this week/month to benefit my situation"

For me, my old job. I liked it cause it was consistent. I knew what was gonna happen each day of the week. But yet. I was struggling on a day to day bases. But hey here I am now.

Just don't let yourself get too comfortable is what I personally learned. I hope you find something you like

People have to work. That's how society is built. You need to make money to pay for food and housing and clothing, let alone anything for leisure. And so, because you have to work, you are always destined to hate a certain portion of your life.

oh hey manley

It depends on the environment. I'm almost assured to be working for a large corporation with a quickly changing team so maybe it is more true for me than for you, but I really don't intend to be the last one leave this place, even if the environment is really great right now.

I had one month off from convention work. I've started up again, because the next one is in February.

I have a lot to do.

Hello! It's been a while.

welcome back!

You should always choose something you love.

Right now im trying to climb that corporate ladder. Our company just bought out smaller shops and they wants experienced workers to at those new locations. And Im one of the main techs but they eventually want those workers to become management then so on and so on. But if people start jumping ship. I'd probably follow.

How ya been bud? long time no see.

Thank you<3

I agree

Not any better or worse I suppose. How about you?

File: 1544081697758.png (39.06 KB, 206x148, 103:74, Smiles.png) ImgOps Google

Pretty decent. Same ol same ol. Anything new friend?

Not really. Hopefully things get better next year.

Would you like that?

File: 1544081903871.png (47.53 KB, 144x302, 72:151, Ugh.png) ImgOps Google

Same here. Im gonna try to work on my fitness and health. It's about time. I laze around too much after work.

I honestly don't mind it and yes. More money and experience in my hands

I'm gonna work on getting a job and finishing school.

I would hesitate to call my self a service technician. More we're required to keep our own vehicles running. They're all old pieces of shit that like to catch fire and leak though.

I wish you luck on that! I've gotten a few of my friends jobs. ....I need to start school

As someone who drives a 30 year old car. I fully understand

How did you do that?

Previous places ive worked. And i'd say im pretty well when it comes to constructing resumes and doing interviews. Every job ive applied to I never got turned down.

Well that's just not true.

How does one get food, housing and clothing without working? I suppose there's a few ways around it, but for the most part people have to work to get money.

File: 1544085261745.gif (274.86 KB, 200x200, 1:1, 5421787 _e1d153ada3efc7cbf….gif) ImgOps Google

Mondo! Hi

File: 1544085299291.png (55.15 KB, 606x592, 303:296, Absolutely!.png) ImgOps Google

The incorrect part was hating it, not having to work.  You don't have to hate work.  Not to the extent some people do, at the least.

File: 1544086224192.png (101.43 KB, 296x292, 74:73, 8.png) ImgOps Google

Something I love. Money is not that hard to come by, honestly. At least, if you're okay with a simple lifestyle.
I'd rather do something I enjoy, and maybe have to work a bit extra at it, than do something I hate. Ultimately, if you hate your job, you'll be forced to find other means of coping, which'll mean more money spent anyway.

File: 1544093186827.png (94.38 KB, 301x363, 301:363, d918c66a1330662e728b0da053….png) ImgOps Google

When you put it that way. I totally wouldn't wanna live that way. Blowing your hard earned money just trying to coupe with yourself. Yikes!

I'm actually taking a course on this right now. There's three things you look for in a career. Skills, values, and preferences. Money isn't what you look for, it's just what you need. A job does need to pay you enough before you can pursue it, and there's no point in chasing your passion if it's paying you nothing. But if you find something that pays enough, you should try to make sure it blends your skills, values, and preferences. If you find a job like this, you will be successful, and you may end up getting more money, and living a happier life. And at the end of the day, you're not going to regret not getting a car, or not earning a nice house. You're going to regret not spending time with your family.

>Implying I can ever have either

It sounds like I'm trying to just be reomantic, but the former - but at least to a comfortable level.

I don't need to be filthy rich. But it would be nice to reach some point in my life where I Don't have to walk around being ashamed of myself for going to the city, could go to the theater on a whim, have a feeling like saving up for a cool thing was actually an option and ever go on anything resembling a vacation. Just now and then.

But I'm too shitty to earn money, so that's unlikely.

I don't mind money much, so something I love.  Which I suppose I am doing, although I mind money enough to stay housed and fed.

>Would you rather do something you love? Or something you hate but for a lot of money?
I'd prefer a balance.  Something that I enjoy that also pays well.

Heyo! Welcome back!

>When it comes to careers. Would you rather do something you love? Or something you hate but for a lot of money?

Definitely something I love. I've already done the 'something I hate for a lot of money', and it almost destroyed my life.

That being said, you gotta strike a balance somewhere.

I got a new job about two years ago and have been steadily moving up in that ladder to slightly better positions that are just a little less stressful and hard and my body. I'm in a position now where I don't mind the work, and I love my co-workers. We all try very hard to make it a team effort while also having some pretty good shenanigans.

Now that said, if someone came along and offerred me a dream job of working with cheetahs or something? Fuck yes I'm going ro take it. But it would be hard to leave my coworkers, and I would probably come back to visit them a lot.

File: 1544117199486.jpg (51.95 KB, 964x808, 241:202, eh heh 2.jpg) ImgOps Exif Google

i would rather do the first, but i am doing the second :c

Just don't forget that it's your life and nobody elses.

i've been doing something i love for the last 6 years, so i will say that

that being said, i reaaaaally would love to have a bit more income ://

What I love.

If i could actually get by doing something i like, sure. i've had an awful job that paid a lot before, i made it 6 monthes before i quit.

File: 1544303453170.png (151.32 KB, 340x420, 17:21, sluuurp.png) ImgOps Google

I suppose this question depends on how much of both there is.

I'd probably won't kill innocent people or semi innocent people or perform feats of acrobacy, even if it payed exuberantly much.

I would do volunteer stuff if I found the time and all the other stuff is taken care for. I would not do something I love for "work" if it means it gets to be free and I can't pay my bills.

I would rather do something I love but bills need to get paid.

So you find something that you love that pays and live below your means.
