Welcome to the Writers Guild! Not an official guild by any means, but we still like to pretend.

Well, come come, what are you waiting for? You don't need a fancy member ID to pull up a chair and join in the fun.

As you can imagine, anything and everything to do with writing and story telling can be found in this thread. Got an idea for a story? A dream of making it to the big leagues? Or maybe just a good book you read recently? Well, it's all welcome here. Don't be shy.

Most of use don't bite.

As usual, I'd preder to make short films,  ut I have zero to work with. Obe idea I have though has been resurfacing.

I had an idea of a Last of Us-esque post-apocalypse setting where a fellow is captured by one of the typical raider group you see in settings like these (possibly to make him reveal the lcoatiob of a shelter or something) , but ends up sort of befriending his guard (I was thinking over something very human like recognizing a band t-shirt or somesuch), to show that the raiders are also just people that may not think they have a choice in being rough abd self serving.

It would end with one of the mostly  unseen post-apocalypsr monsters of the setting charging the base and making itd way to the cell, with the guard letting the captured man put and giving him a gun. The two of then would then either fight the thing or commit suicide together (as a sort of "at we die knowing human bonding is still possible in a world like this" way) before the monster can get them. As usual though, I have no  idea how  to build  to that

I love it.

I would enjoy either ending, but personally the suicide ending would get to me more.

So I've been finding myself doing something with my writing;maybe it can help with your film making. What I've been doing is writing (in my opinion) very crappy short sentences that come off as pretty cringy and like something a young kid would write.

Then later I'll go back to it, look at one sentence, and go *ok, how I can change that to show my audience, instead of tell?"

Then I'll use whatever adjextives, facial expressions, or human habits and twitches to get the point across.

It's really helped me stop getting so stuck on things when I want it to be good the first time around. Because it just isn't going to be.

So my man got me four books on writing better, and one I already love and haven't put down yet.

It's called, A Year Of Writing Dangerously-365 Days Of Inspiration And Encouragement.

I'm on page 26 and I love this quote about a trampoline. I'll shorten it a bit because it's pretty long.

"...I'm here to tell you that it is impossible to be calm and dignified on a trampoline. It is also impossible to feel safe on one. I crawled onto what looked like a big lake of black water and couldn't stand up. And these little kids...were bouncing like ping-pong balls...Very slowly I managed to get to my feet and then proceeded to inch across the trampoline in an upright position...'It's okay if you fall down' she said...And suddenly I realized the metaphor:there's no way to be more dignified on a big piece of bouncing rubber than you are on a piece of paper...If you let go of how you look doing this, and aren't afraid to fall on your face, it's really fun. Kind of like writing."

But that one really hit home because I'm usually so scared to share my writing.

I'm opening up my heart into this stuff, you know, even if it is fiction.

If you want to be successful, then you gotta be better than everyone else, or at least damn near. You gotta work hard, and make it come true.

I've been sitting around with this big story in my head for almost a decade, but I've never really been able to do anything with it outside of at least a dozen failed attempts at making a game.

I'll probably try it again this year, but I think it's safe to say that I won't succeed again unless I actually get the spare time to dedicate myself to it.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I've written down plenty! I still keep track of an old Google Docs file in my Google drive.

I'm not sure how well I could summarize the story, though I can give you the setting.

Basically, there's a guild of vigilante bounty hunters known as the Hunter's Guild that resides in a secluded and isolationist Human kingdom. Two members of the Hunter's Guild, Atticus and Nerissa, are chosen to hunt down a mysterious beast that has been attacking their trade caravans. They find the beast in its nest and proceed to slay it, but then they discover a tainted crystal in its nest. Atticus decides to bring it back to the guild, but the moment he touches it he is transported to the other side of the world, right in the middle of two warring kingdoms.
It's up to Atticus to find his way back home in a world that is completely unknown to him, while at the same time discovering where the tainted crystal came from and why it sent him away.

Hehe, it does go quite a bit deeper than that, but it's the best way I can summarize the setting without spoiling too much. I mean, with how fleshed out the story is at the moment, it's only about halfway by the time Atticus makes it back home.

There's a lot he'll get involved with, whether it be intentionally or unintentionally.
