Hey everyone! let's have a little bit of fun. i got an idea for a simple, but potentially interesting game.

it's very very simple. it will play like an roullette AMA.

you have to roll a 1d2 die.

you roll a 1, you can ask me or anyone else a question!

you roll a 2, i get to ask YOU a question (also, when i leave the thread, somebody can take this position until i get back)

so let's get started!

An NPC Star, huh?

I honestly see you as a companion NPC, y'know? One of the ones who you can recruit as the main character and then hang out with and take into battle and stuff.

I think you'd be… a bard, in that scenario. I'd make you the character that everyone likes to be around because you're sincere and fun. And if anyone ever needed some hope, you'd be there to give it. Definitely a companion, most likely a bard.

Bards are also one of my favorite classes in D&D so

The thing about being a bard is you don't actually have to sing or play an instrument! That's just the general imagery you get when you think of a bard. But Bard's aren't just singers and musicians, Bards are storytellers. You can be a bard that doesn't sing or play a lute, you can be a bard that tells stories, the great Orator.

>how about an over the top Adult Swim cartoon?

Well, I am already a wacky, over the top character in real life. But, I kinda suppress that to a degree so I can function in normal society.

So in this series, for some contrived reason, I'd be cursed by a magical silicon valley tech bro to have anything I imagine start to materialize in real life. Then I'd have to try to contain all the wacky shit I think of while working a regular job and living a regular life.

I'm sure that isn't even an very original premise, but I promise it'd be really something coming from me.

I could probably list a half dozen reasons for that.

-It is how I started on ponychan, and I haven't bothered to change
-I post mostly in debate threads and if something gets heated I don't want that moment to bias interactions with me in the next thread
-I like to argue, which leads me to picking fights, which causing things to get heated
-I've got wicked social anxiety, which is lessened when I'm not worried about a persistent reputation
-In social threads, most people don't give me the time of day. Which I understand since I'm anon, i.e. not one of their posters they want to bond with, but still doesn't inspire me to declassify myself.
-But besides that, I hardly even post as anon. Sure, I've never used a name on this site or Ponychan, but I've made a habit of dropping hints for anyone who is listening. For instance, my use of commas is ridiculously telling, isn't it? Who uses so many damn commas all the time? And, I start a lot of sentences with conjunctions. I also drop a lot of hints about my identity to Star, because he always seems interested in chatting with me regardless of my anonymity. He should know many of the times he has interacted with me just from the few responses I've made in this thread.

The thing that really gets me is that I am bad with boundaries. I don't understand what is and isn't acceptable to people. For instance, Star is a hug machine around here. I couldn't ever possibly imagine saying '/hug'. That's as real to me as if I walked up to you and did it in real life.

How I usually do this in my IRL relationships is I start any long term relationship exerting the tiniest footprint on a person as possible. Then I slowly start pushing the limits of the relationship. And I keep pushing, endlessly. I acclimate people to my special style of weirdness. The more I have pushed the boundaries of a relationship, the more I can feel safe in my interactions. People at work know me as an absurdist, over-the-top, lovable nutjob. They barely remember that I was a mouse when I first joined.

The chan setting just does not work for this approach. First, if I don't leave a footprint, nobody even notices you. You don't make meaningful interactions. Then secondly, it is exceedingly difficult to judge how well you have pushed into the boundary space. Frequently, you say something and people decide that's a good place to stop and don't respond. Then I panic and I can't figure out whether they stopped responding because I was way too personal or if that was where they had no response. Too often, being left hanging like this, though being no ones fault, is a complete nightmare scenario. I just don't handle that well as anon, and it'd be doubly so as a named poster.

For Star's benefit, Mysterium is a 2-7 player asymmetric co-op game. One player plays as the ghost who was murdered decades ago and the other players play as psychic detectives trying commune with the ghost to solve the unsolved murder.

The ghost gets a big board with all the answers behind it. They know who the suspects are, what rooms were involved, what weapons were involved. But, they can only communicate with the psychics non-verbally through 'vision cards'. So imagine you have these three suspects: the doctor, the maid, and the racecar driver…

Yeah, that's a big problem with the internet. You can't read people's expressions, or their vocal tones, you basically lack a lot of indicators. I think Star can pull of his special style cause he is just so close to being unconditionally accepting of so many sorts. It's not something I could do.

It sounds to me like it's a really rough environment for you. Is there any reason why you stick around as much as you do? I think it's impressive that you deal with that much insecurity.

>>607504
Well… for joint pain? hmm. I'd say first of all, don't stress the joint at all. Secondly, make sure you maintain good posture, and eat healthily! it's also possible that strengthening some of your core muscles around the joint could help, or maybe doing some stretching exercises. It can't hurt anyway. Which joint are we talking about here? All of them? If so, I'd see a doctor.

A guy has got to eat ya know. While you won't literally starve to death without social interaction, it is an input that most all humans need. I can't escape that need for social interaction, and this place is probably the safest space on the internet.

Besides, I've pretty much made a pact with myself that I wouldn't let my anxiety get in my way. Yeah, internally I might be screaming half the time but that is life and I have to live it. The last time I really let anxiety drive me was in Madrid. I could have taken a taxi or the subway. I knew taxis, I was familiar with them, I knew I could get home on them even if I couldn't speak to the driver. Even though I plotted a route on the subway, I saw those steps going down and I fucking froze. Working a machine to get a ticket when I didn't know the language, getting on the right train, getting off at the right place. I totally gave in and went to find a taxi. well, i guess i will ask you a question in a bit too ^^

but … i have a few dreams i really like. do you mean like, sleep dreams? or future dreams? i have both!

…future dreams, i sometimes dream one day i can have a nice cottage, someplace far away, and be at peace. i like to think of that, when things are especially bad.

sleep dreams? i have a few recurring ones, believe it or not! The one that recurs the most, it is a dream that is most odd.

i am sitting in a room, facing opposite a black man, dressed in nice clothes, though i cannot remember just what he wore.

i can see myself sitting there, but it is as if my perspective is like a camera - i am looking at the "scene" as if it was like a profile, 2d perspective. i can see the man sitting in his chair, and myself, in my chair, about thirty paces away from each other: quite a distance, in other words.

The wall behind us (from my sitting perspective, it would be to the right), is an nondescript distance away, but it has four large openings, that look like windows without glass, that stretch from the floor to the ceiling, evenly spaced such that each opening is the exact same size and distance from the other. The windows show a scene outside. A forest, with a brook, and rocks. It is a vertical looking scene, if that makes sense.

The windows rise all the way to the ceiling, which is not defined well. But do not go all the way to the floor.

On each window, the scene of the forest, however, is in a different season. From the black man to me, the order is Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… i think.

The room itself is vast and empty. The floor and ceiling are not defined well, one cannot see the lines of where they begin and end. The space is white… a fuzzy white. it glows, almost a cream color, and everything is sort of fuzzy like that.

The man asks questions… how is school? what have you been thinking about lately?

i don't say anything in response, but he replies and asks more questions, as if i had responded.

i cannot usually remember what he says or asks. i wake up some time later, and cannot remember an exact end to this dream.

i have had it several times throughout my life. Each time though, spaced out enough years that i always wonder if it was just deja vu or something. But i am certain it is truly a recurring dream now, as i have made record of it.

Haruki Murakami. Famous Japanese novelist, and nonfiction writer!

He writes interesting connections between fiction and the real world, incorporating magic into our own world in a way which honors and exalts the simplest and most potent truths of every day life, leaving you knowing more about the real world than you did before you started.

A real philosopher. He often uses surreal images, like the dream sequence you described, to communicate ideas that are otherwise hard to describe directly. His work is so interesting.

Symbols are generally not a fixed translation as some believe, but are taken from your own experience and feelings or I find frequently, things that I most recently saw.

As yours is a long-time recurring dream, Moony, and seems to portray things that resonate with what you yearn for and/or find comforting, i am going to speculate that:

The scenes outside the window represent your goals and perhaps your cyclical understanding of them as seasons.  The black man represents someone who you respect, possibly a father figure, role model, judge, or your superego.  The discussion has to do with your current actions are bringing you closer to those goals.

A check-up of sorts.  A way to express when you are feeling that you are off the path.

I am fascinated by the part where you recall such details but not the conversations….I have a similar recurring dream, long gone now about my grandfather which began when he died and I was 9.

We would be in various different settings, places of comfort that I had experienced together with him or at least possibly representations of places I found comfortable, and those places would have puzzlingly clear little details:  walking along the shore of Clear lake, with the teeny little wavelets on the thick freshwater sand so crisply noticeable, or sitting somewhere at a table together and I think one time next to a big large fallen oak tree where I had built a fort during the time he was alive.

We would always have small conversations, gentle easy words that I could never recall that seemed in themselves unimportant.  I think this dream may have occurred particularly at times when I was feeling lost and needing guidance from my mentor.  At the time he died, I was not receptive to wisdom…he'd try to show me things and I would want to do it my way.  I feel I missed out on a lot of knowledge that I was not ready to absorb before he died.  I had this dream at fairly large intervals for many years.

Anyway one of these times we were sitting across a small table, possibly with cups of something and having our usual unrememberable chat.  I never remembered that he was dead, but this particular time the knowledge of his being gone came over me and I blurted out, But Grampa you're dead.  He looked at me with the most caring smile I can ever imagine, and said very gently, You don't need me anymore.

That was the last time I ever had that dream.

I've often pondered whether that was my own mind supplying a defensive acceptance mechanism or whether that was actually him, staying back to keep an eye on me, and leaving only when I had accepted that he was gone.  There's no way to be sure.  But I believe it was him.

Moony I hope you re able to make progress towards your goals and understand your dream better, especially who the man is.  Whether he is a particular person or just an imaginary avatar I think he is someone very important to you in your life.

Let's see… What is my third favorite show…

I guess it's made in abyss after Eureka 7 and Jojos. So my third favorite character there would probably be nat. Riko is just straight up more fun and inspiring, and nanachi is a really interesting character, her motivations and actions are pretty fascinating, reg falls behind because he's by his nature as an amnesiac kind of a blank slate. Nat is sarcastic and caring at the same time in a way that really resonates with me.

Do you never dream, or do you never remember dreaming? I hardly remember the dreams I have nowadays, but previously I kept a dream journal and made the effort to remember my dreams and I was recording a dream every morning.

Would you rather stream a game that you had a lot of fun in but it wasn't very entertaining for your audience, or that wasn't a very fun game for you to play but was much more entertaining to have watched?

 No.607800

>>607796
That's kind of tricky to answer since my only audience is friends at the moment.

I generally try to avoid things I don't think would be all that watchable, like long JRPGs, for instance, and most point and click adventure games unless I know them well or feel they have something more to offer. So I guess the latter - but I always try to find something I'll enjoy too. Or at least that I think I'll enjoy. I've largely streamed things I haven't actually played before.

I don't really play games anymore so it's kinda fun to watch someone else play them from time to time.  It's fun to see how games have evolved from the games i knew: how they have changed and how they are the same.

Sorry Flyk I didn't see your question earlier.

We dream and often don't remember.  I don't really know but i wonder if the dream we experienced but don't remember has an effect on us or not.

I often remember a dream when waking that will quickly fade if i don't either write it down or commit it to memory carefully for a while before getting up.  So if something distracts me like i have to scramble or something, I'll lose it.  Sometimes I can realize that there were dreams before the one I remember, and bits and pieces might come up.

I had a dream a week or two ago that had some troubling symbolism and even though I discussed it for a couple of days and think I did figure out what some of the elements meant, I can't remember what it was about now…I did note it in my general log so I can look it up though.

I don't really know a lot about it but they definitely do have meaning.  Sometimes it's just a reflection of the things you saw or went through, sometimes it's dealing with loss or some other complex thing, and sometimes it's about what is coming ahead that you feel nervious about or something.  There can be a lot of things and like I said I don't really know a whole lot about it but i think it is very important to write down the details of one especially that bothers you, to preserve them and try and figure out what the meaning was.

42 is the answer to the question of life, the universe, and everything.  Also if I remember right, it's Ben Hur's oarsman number.

>>608014
oops I see I mistyped, Fylk not Flyk.  I forgot to add one more thing about dreams, that mine are often simply digesting the things I have gone through in the last day or days and sometimes about what the things I went through mean.

Everyone dreams..there are only some special cases where people don't have dreams.

If you can't remember any of them, there are lots of things that can cause it..
For example, one thing that falls to my mind right now is, that as soon as you wake up, you get sun or other source of light into your eyes…
Light sources crash your dream memory.

 No.608044

>>608041
How would that work?

 No.608045

>>608044
If you wake up in a room with any sort of light source, it will crash your dream memory.

You might remember the fact that you dreamed but wont be able to remember what you dreamed of.

If you worked on dream memory collection , either by using dream journals or tried lucid dreaming, you might increase your chance of remembering parts of dreams even with light source disrupting your memory.

But I don't know what place you live at and whether you wake up near/because of light sources..so I can't say if its true that its the source of your dream memory loss or not.
