So I have been wondering about this for a while, and I would like to get everyone's opinion and feedback on it.

Are the rules generally the same on /rp/ as on the rest of the site? That might seem a bit obvious, that, yes they are, but when it comes to creative projects and especially writing, I feel like that might get pushed into the grey area.

Things might come up in writing that isn't often seen in just general posting, or using images in our posts.

Say, for instance, I have a very dark and grimy world setting. Am I allowed to push it a bit when going into detail about characters deaths?

Back on old ponychan, we could go into some details, but it was generally frowned upon to describe fully, a brutal murder and all the details that came with that. And to add to this, sex scenes where supposed to be taken off the site.

But ponyville feels more pg-13 than ponychan did, so concerning these topics, I would like your guys feedback.

Will /rp/ have any different rules than the rest of the site? Should it even be allowed, just because of creativity? Or could that then be taken advantage of and used in arguments/debates in the other boards?

I don't expect people will decide to start ERPing on ponyville.
I'm not sure I have an opinion on this.

Oh, look at that, /rp/ still exists.

I never think written gore really poses much of a thread

Until you're like Sticky Bucket of Fun grossitude.

Well I'm mostly talking about the rp board itself
Indeed it does
>Sticky Bucket of Fun grossitude.

>Say, for instance, I have a very dark and grimy world setting. Am I allowed to push it a bit when going into detail about characters deaths?

It would make sense to me if the rules were a bit less strict in that regard. But things still shouldn't go overboard.

you should never look up and read Sticky Bucket of Fun

Well even onponychan they weren't allowed to go overboard. And that's kind of what I want to know about here-if things will differ, how they will differ, etc.

I shall not then O_O

I think some limits should be expected, just considering the site.

So a grey area concern? Well here is my opinion...

>On Violence
I've run some pretty violent RP's before but I think the worst of it was on Ponychan when I was doing a Fallout RP. The setting was naturally dark of course but we never had any sort of trouble from any moderators. Also no players gave me any trouble over it either. As for my personal opinion I don't mind violence at all in my RP's even though some might.

>On sex
From time to time some players may do some light ERP but there was a very loosely enforced system as for such. Kissing and the such was fine but sexual activity was frowned on and usually just described as *Fades to Black.* Again though my Fallout RP did push some boundaries but using the hide feature. As for me again I don't really care if someone does ERP in a thread though it may be cancerous if there was an RP solely focused on that.

Like this

>What should be done
I think in the end we shouldn't change anything really, people are often responsible and mature enough to go into an RP and handle some adult themes. Everything seems fine for now and so I don't think there is any need for action at the moment nor should we put up preventative measures or else people will feel restricted and want to naturally want to push the limit. Of course there is a possible solution that will put some heads up for newcomers which would be a Tag system for the RP's, short descriptions used to tell what the RP has in it from a glance.

ex. [#Grim-Dark] [#Semi-Serious] [#Slice of Life]

Then again with how quiet the RP board has been even I would admit that if I was the one designing the site I wouldn't make the effort to make such a tag system as nobody seems to be using it at the moment. Not enough people, not worth the effort.

Thank you Crit; I was kind of hoping you would post as you have been around for quite some time and I was hoping to hear your opinion too.

Yeah really the way I see it is that there isn't some emergent problem at hand here. You can look through all of the RP threads on and none of them should have any extreme gore or sexual themes. Since there's no real issue to be had here then I would say we don't need to do anything.

If in the case a bunch of extreme threads pop up then at most what should be done is to include a tag system for RP's that have violence and light ERP. Then again not many use RP so if I was in charge I wouldn't bother with a tag system as it is not worth the effort. If the people in charge want to include a tag system then that is fine.

I mean do you feel like you are gonna get into trouble for something you have or will be posting soon? I'm sure whatever RP you have planned will be fine and nobody will have issue with it. That is if you are making an RP.

i've been watching our /rp/ board, and am glad to see that it has a small, but devoted userbase.

i can see the concerns, and would like to ask our /rp/ ponies: what do you want to see?

Would you like an independent set of rules, based on our all-purpose rules, that maybe allow for some creative exceptions?

It is my opinion that when we get specifically into the realm of roleplaying, there should be far more creative freedom from the rules. Though, what that means, i am not sure yet!

What do you think? i will see if we cannot make things a bit more free for /rp/.

>I mean do you feel like you are gonna get into trouble for something you have or will be posting soon?

Well actually yes...kinda.. i mean, not in 'trouble' persay, so much as probably a verbal warning to tone it down.

No, I think what I wanted to know mostly was if and how ponyville.us was going to be different from ponychan, or other similar sites for that matter.

It wasn't just the recent talk of rules over on /pony/, I've actually been thinking about if for a while but haven't had the need to bring it up to anyone, since I haven't been roleplaying.

I do like dark rps and good bloody fun, but I was apprehensive about having those sorts of things here.

But if everyone feels that isn't a big deal, and doesn't think it will affect the other boards in a negative way, then yea, I can agree with you and say just leave it as is.
I think I like what Crit was saying in that it is good as it is, and if something comes up later, then maybe we can make a tag system then.

I was personally seeking out more clarification though because, yes, I would probably like to start a more grimdark setting at some point.

Well I've gotten pretty graphic on this site too with some of my RP's

So all in all you will most definitely be fine. I never had any trouble. Also good luck with your RP, I'll be sure to join it when it goes up if I have the time (Which I probably will.)
